Yeahhh…unless she’s Jason Statham or Jason Bourne, she’s not losing them. The best Ferret can hope for after hitting that cop car is that she and Ape get taken in alive and not dead. I can see her making a plea deal and giving up the goods on Yeti to save herself.
I was right yesterday, when I thought I was kidding. In today’s (15 February) strip, we see that indeed, Ape snapped his seat belt, or at least that it was never buckled. He turns all the way around to look out the rear windshield, and the seat belt is clearly drawn as trailing over his right shoulder, connected to nothing. Is this foreshadowing? Is Ape going to be injured in the inevitable crash?
There’s is such a thing as a radio, used to for communicate things like a “red suv, plate no. xxx xxx just hit me, now headed down Louis Lane.” (Louis Lane. I presume everybody got the implied joke there.)
Confession, though I find I’m warming to Ferret, these two could spend YEARS trying to understand Who’s On First’. Not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
I DO pull up short of the two henchmen in SUPERSONIC MAN (a bad Euro superhero flick from s1979) in which Our Hero turns a thug’s gun into a banana (Yeah, I know!). Then he explains “I hate bananas” and jumps onto his pal’s shoulders and rides him off-camera.
ALTERNATE ENDING: They ultimately get caught when they hang a u-turn and leave a ‘sorry we hit your car’ note under the patrol car’s windshield wiper. Yeti has a hissy fit and focuses on raising a stable of racing spiders (actually a gag form my audition as a horror host for the local ABC affiliate). Not the hissy fit. The spiders.
The problem with this plot turn is that it seems contrived … not organic to the story itself, arising out of plot & character, but thrown in to just add some action & pseudo-suspense. Just saying.
Ferret is in full Panic Mode. Can her little red Kia escape down Louis Lane, or is that the road to downfall and disaster? If Ferret and and Ape are lucky, the Tracyville PD will get them before Yeti does….

Good morning, devious drivers!
It looks like she’s making a run for it down Louis Lane. There’s really a lot of water on those roads!
The police car is pointed the wrong way to give chase quickly, so Ape and Ferret might get away from it.

I am more convinced than ever if a new writer is in the offing, Mark is the man to carry the DT torch. Some gut wrenching action in P. 1. :-)

Nice strip today. No real issues to point out AND as a bonus we finally get to see the reason for yesterday’s window wiper!

Ah. Running from the cops in a car. And here I though Ferret was the brains of the operations.

1-APE: HA! You spun that cop car around like it was your dancing partner!
FERRET: NO – YOU DID! And now they wanna tap dance all over MY head!
2-APE: That’s some pretty good criminal banter coming from the likes of us.
FERRET: Yeah well, you got batter for brains so that makes sense!
APE: I said “banter”.
FERRET: Oh. Well, we knew we couldn’t keep it going for long. Hey! The Peugeot never made that noise before. Maybe I better test the brakes… uh oh

A thought crossed my mind….nah….it couldn’t be…that Ape might be a distant relative of Big Moose from Archie Comics.
