A big bonk on the head would stop any dog.

gmartin997 – Lynn says she tried that with her dog, however, living with males, t hey don’t like to put the seat down. This story actually came from her friend who’s 3 year old son did it.I love how she drew Farley in the last panel – the sad, forlorn look at the toilet.

Also, his poor paw came off the ground in panel 4, when Liz hit him. Aww poor Farley.

I don’t think pouncingtiger advocates hitting an animal to train him, I just think he is stating a fact without necessarily agreeing with it…

The etiquette is always to leave the toilet lid shut. It is maximum safety and common courtesy to every animal in the house, including humans.

The only time hitting an animal is justifiable is when the animal risks injuring another animal, e.g. by biting, and then the hit must only be sufficient to show displeasure. Use of a hard object that raises a bump on the head risks brain damage.

If the lid to the toilet’s open……….. I mean, is there any way possible that the water’s, I don’t know, CLEAN?

More “just cartoon” advice…..Your toilet lid should be down and locked with a toddler device in case a small child in your house plays in the water bowl and falls in head first. They cannot get themselves out of that situation because their feet cannot touch the floor.I’m pretty sure that this advice has been given before when Lizzie has trashed the bathroom when Mom was busy elsewhere. So, say what you will to me. If it saves a life, I can take it.

Please don’t bash all males for leaving the lid up, some of us do quit well thank you. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats, no children and the grandkids live a long ways away, but the lid is left down when not in use. Courtesy to other half, and saftey for critters, 2 seconds makes a big difference.

I think Lizzie is on right track for a little girl. Farley will remember. My sister to keep her dog out of toile left seat down. We have two dogs female older and male almost a year and neither get in toilet water. older female doesn’t like baths;whereas, younger male does like showers.

All those weeks of training Farley to quit drinking out of the toilet could have been better spent doing something else if John would just show some proper manners and put the lid down when he’s done.

Keeping the lid closed is a perfect way to solve the male/female seat up or down controversy. It’s also the only way to keep a cat out of the toilet. Dogs respond to Lizzie’s type of discipline, cats don’t. The only negative reinforcement that I think might work is to let them fall in (and no, I never tried it – that’s why I think, not know, it might work.).

@richardwebster, it’s NOT my advice nor reccomendation to hit a dog, let alone in the head. Training is always the best method. I’m just saying a bonk on the head is a deterant. It may result in worse results.

We don’t have a dog, but our cat used to drink out of the toilet until he fell in one day. He hasn’t had much desire for toilet water since.
