As large flat screen TVs became affordable, virtually overnight, the chonky big screen TVs of the 90s went from status symbol to joke. People didn’t want to pay the hefty fee to dispose of these heavy beasts properly at the landfill and thrift shops refused to take them because they were impossible to sell, so I started seeing them abandoned along rural roadsides so frequently that I was never surprised when I spotted another.
I’m thankful that today’s strip isn’t a slap at football fans. Although, if we know the artist (a guy who hates football and doesn’t watch TV) it’s a good bet that football on TV is what gave rise to today’s content.
TV or not TV Happy Thanksgiving Day to everyone from my sweet blue-eyed girl and me. If God wills, we will celebrate our 63rd anniversary a month and day from today. Then comes the new year and lots of possibilities.
It took 4 people to move the old TV when I was ten years old lol my buddy’s was even larger, it had the turntable built in the cabinet with the TV, it’s longer than I am taller now.
We booted the TV out of the house in 94. We don’t miss it. And our Thanksgiving conversations are not spiked with TV tropes, mad political arguments first touted by talking heads and pretty darned peaceful!
So true. Large CRT TVs were as big as refrigerators. Fun fact: classy furniture stores, the kind that have mock-up rooms to show furnishings to advantage, always had a wardrobe-sized “Entertainment Center” in every room, mainly to house the mastodonic TV. Not so much any more. I wonder what happened to all those things. The “entertainment centers”, I mean. Some of them were fancy, and furniture of any kind ain’t cheap.

The people that congregated in the kitchen, still do. But now they have a TV in there.

Go Lions! I planned sit down time for after the game is over and can see the TV from the kitchen so it’s all good!

NO television on Thanksgiving…unless it’s the parade. This year, we have a twelve hour crackling fireplace with Christmas music.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it!

I opted for the smaller screen. It’s just for me, plus has a matte finish so it doesn’t pick up glare.

Heh, I just got here from “Pooch Cafe,” which includes a wall TV. Took me a moment to realize it wasn’t a framed photo.
