TJ: "I'll have the taco grande"
Brad: "Uh - this is Weenieworld, sir. We don't have tacos"
TJ: "Ok, then gimme the chow mein bowl"
Brad: "Sir, we only serve weenies here"
TJ: "Who you callin' a weenie?!"
And I know….as a Christian I am not allowed to have a point of view, or express my point of view…….I’m just supposed to deal with everyone else’s point of view and not be allowed to comment…..just as all this will be erased by Evans or his monitor later on this morning.
@Amazing Grace: free speech is every American’s right…I may not agree with what you have to say, but i will defend with my life your right to say it. God gave us free will, and respects us enough to use it wisely. Anybody that makes life decisions based on a comic strip, well……
TJ’s joke made me laugh because it undoubtedly made Brad laugh. It was unexpected and much needed in his drudge job. TJ is jerking Brad’s chain but in a friendly and caring way.
Get a grip, it is just a comic strip. And, from what I have seen, the main character is a member of a loving and supportive family. As for giving up the child for adoption; I am glad they at least had the child and didn’t just have an abortion because they couldn’t raise a child. And, most people make errors in life. NONE of us are perfect in the slightest. If we were, then God wouldn’t have had to send Jesus. Hubris, thine name is ‘Amazing Grace’. And I just don’t see where this strip is so anti family. Last week is was just about teenagers talking about being married. What it showed was that they thought it would be an easy assignment with little headaches, but in the end they just weren’t mature enough yet to deal with it. And a Christian may always have a point of view. You just shouldn’t judge others.
“And I know….as a Christian I am not allowed to have a point of view, or express my point of view.”
Whatever self-editing you do as a “Christian” is up to you, but I haven’t noticed you having a problem with keeping silent, so put away the victim card. What you really want is for everyone to agree with you – using guilt to elicit that response won’t work.
What I do love is claiming how unjust it will be to have your posts erased while in the same breath condemning Greg for not censoring his strip according to your dictates.
Really? Well, then, since you aren’t, I just think it’s wonderful that you’ve somehow discerned that God is just so overloaded with judging others for their past “sins” that you’ve decided to pitch in and do it for Him. Because of course you know everything about Evans’ life at the time he put his child up for adoption, right?.
Amazing, indeed. Is your account of Greg Evans’ personal history based on fact, or merely a convenient conjecture?.And where on earth did you get a reading that this strip is anti-marriage, or anti-children? Luann’s parents are a model of a loving, mutually respectful and pleasurable, long-term marriage. Pretend-parenting is (or at least can be) an excellent learning experience for teens about the realities of adult life — a part of which is to make an intelligent choice not to have children you can’t care for, until such time as you can…and then love them and enjoy them.,With all respect for your opinions and your values, which I happen to share, your overreaction has carried you completely over the cliff.
“Greg Evans put his first daughter up for adoption because him and his wife were’nt ready to raise a child when they were in college”If that is true, then Kudos to Greg and his wife for going the route of adoption instead of abortion. My birth mother made a mistake but did the Christian thing and gave me up for adoption. Something I’m sure was VERY hard in the day. I’m very glad though or else I wouldn’t be here.
@Amazing Grace: As a Christian, I too agree with your concern of the seemingly unsupportive view of marriage as presented in the Scriptures that the strip appeared to offer this past week. But would it have been more merciful to have limited your “attack” to that rather than the person of Evans? At first read, it came over more as gossip than an appeal to his conscience. Thank you, though, for taking a stand for the high standard of Christ which will always be a stumbling block to the world.
Lemme Guess: TJ will come up with some hair-brain scheme to put ‘ol Ann Eiffel in her ’place’ but it’ll back-fire as usual making things WORSE for Brad, and prompting TJ to flee like the coward he is, saying “Gotta Run!”
Here is an interesting option… If you don’t like the story lines, jokes or themes the artist is pursuing…. don’t read the comic, wow problem solved.I would also like to say to Mr. Evans and his wife, if you really did have to make the difficult choice to put a child up for adoption; I applaud you! Thousands of people would love to have a family and cannot.
wow………. no one has written so far about the chance that “Miss Awful” might overhear the confession, and thanks to “TJ’s joke”; she will have a talk with Brad about “don’t call our clients weenies”
I don’t like abortion, but that being said…………….. I prefer to give women the right to a “legal abortion” than to make it illegal, and those who are determined to have it would go to “clandestine doctors” at best, and not real doctors at worse to have abortions; or to use hangers to have “self abortions” and harm their bodies and possibly damage their bodies so much, that later on they will not have the opportunity to have babies, when they want to have them
TJ, you’re being kind of counter-productive. I understand that you want to help Brad get out of the fast-food business, but you can do better than driving him back into unemployment.
TJ is one of the most interesting, but least believable, characters in this strip. He’s always smiling (which is kind of creepy…unless you’re Knute), totally cryptic about his past, without any emotional depth or commitment to any other character, and with hidden talents that either cause disaster or save the day. Maybe Greg Evans is using him as a classic “deus ex machina”? — an arbitrary plot device trotted out solely to create or resolve troubles..I don’t think we can say yet if a TJ/Ann Eiffel steel-cage deathmatch is in the offing. But it would be entertaining.
Re: politics and religion. Some strips do deal with politics (Doonesberry) or may you may find some deeper spiritual meaning (Calvin ann Hobbes). People should be free to comment and express their ideas without being rude to other people. (I wrote another sentence about one of the posters, but censored it myself since it violated the principle I just stated.)
cdward.....I know the Emerging Churches views......…pro….we are to judge, we are not to be judgemental….that’s 101. Why is it so bad to voice ones opinion? I served my country, went to war. Sorry my opinion isn’t flowers and butterflies……it must have struck a note because I keep getting my posts deleted….I am not being profane, obnoxious….I am just stating the truth as I see it….but then most people really don’t want the truth or are aware of how the media twists peoples minds even though you can read about how they do it everywhere to condition our minds and program us……..I just thought it was C.S. to do it in the comics too…..sorry that offends people, I guess I’m not allowed to express my thoughts.
“sorry that offends people, I guess I’m not allowed to express my thoughts.”Correct. I’m not allowed to say what I think of you, because that would also offend people. But I am ok with that imposition. C’mon, you’re Xenon, right?
@Amazing Grace – I very much doubt if Greg Evans is in here monitoring the comments. From what I gather, the site is self-policing, in that anybody can flag a comment, and if enough flagging occurs, the comment disappears. Just my guess as to how it works.:You are perfectly entitled to your opinions. But if you voice them, expect to get a reaction. Same is true for me (or anybody) – some of my opinions are extreme, and when I voice them, people react. It’s just how any social group operates. I’ve learned to be circumspect and respectful (most of the time) when voicing my opinions. They’re more welcome in some venues than others, and I understand that. I also don’t waste my time in places where I’m not really welcome. I do my best (not always successful) to not start fights.:As for your belief that Greg is brainwashing us with some sort of Satanic New World Order ideas about sexuality and family living – you’re entitled to believe that, but I don’t think the evidence matches what you’re saying. It sounds awfully paranoid and unrealistic. Everything that I’ve seen of this strip shows Luann’s family to be very loving and supportive (in deeper ways than mine ever was), and that the characters in this strip are dealing the best they can with real world situations – which don’t happen to always conform to some religious ideal. That’s just how life is. I think you’re projecting a little too much into this, seeing things that aren’t really there – but that’s my own opinion.
You are not exactly right – Brad is being cautious not to piss Ann off – she is his boss. She did slight out his girlfriend – one mistake Ann made…and she will make more and piss him off.
