She’s so behind the times…

During my first days of H.S., though it was a large campus, I was good at learning how to keep track of where things were, and so were many others… and after the first week, it was pretty smooth sailing… especially considering there weren’t any seniors or teacher’s aides (read: student age assistants) helping anyone out….

I wonder if Miss Phelps has ever been introduced to the magic of faxing.

Just Ms Phelps being behind the times. Set into old routines established decades ago she isn’t hip to the new lingo yet. Bernice will clue her in. ^Yes, this is obvious… but it’s now time for Bernice to be the center of the gag….

And besides… what Miss Phelps said was the same thing, but as we’ve discovered last week, she’s “analog” and Bern is “digital”….

Somebody should gift Miss Phelps with a smart phone and teach her how to use it. (You might think a contemporary Guidance Counselor would have confiscated a drawer-full of them for infractions by now!)

Because I have been wondering about the direction of the strip, I checked Greg’s Blog on TheCartoonStudio.com. Greg or Karen hasn’t written a blog since July 3rd. In 2010 Greg wrote 13 blog posts in September, in 2011 and 12 he wrote 2 and this Sept., nothing. I wonder what’s up?

Good for Bernice doing work study or whatever, but….um…doesn’t she also have CLASSES to attend?

The Buggy Whip being used for transportation is one interpretation. The other is that she likes to use it on her students. ‘Counseling’ indeed…

Not stupid, just behind the times, at least 20 years behind. Unlikely to be able to give good advice.

I wonder if this week’s arc might end up being a “meeting of the minds” for Bern and Ms. Phelps… I.e., that their talents, skills, etc. will “equilibrize” and both will end up learning from each other. As Louis Armstrong “thought to himself…. What a wonderful world…..Ohhhhhhh..Yeaaaaaaaaahh”

BTW, did anyone notice that many of today’s strips were devoted to the NSA issue? “Shoe,” “Non Sequitur,” “Wizard of ID”? Hmmmm….

I’ve gotten used to using a GPS for auto travel, but using it inside for finding lockers & classrooms is new to me. Don’t disparage Ms. Phelps too much. .What is the difference between a herd of cattle being driven from one field to another & students moving from one classroom to another? The cattle are looking straight ahead and the students are looking at their iphones. I thought they were just texting; now I realize they are checking the path to their destination.

Hahahahah!!! As a baby boomer who teaches a lot of Gen Ys as Bernice is I can relate, although I am not nearly as old-fashioned as Ms. Phelps is here. (lol) Remember though she is a good counselor, keep in mind the kids in this strip by themselves are only a tiny fraction of a typical high school.

So, Bernice. You’re going to run around uploading the location of all the freshman lockers to a GPS map? I assume this map will be on the school website, and you’ve checked that you have permission to upload. Considering some people can’t use any sort of map, you’ll still have to lead some freshmen around manually. So how does this save any time?

Ha Bernice is due for a takedown. Maybe she’ll fall for a freshman — that would be humiliating.

Maybe this is a joke about Evans having his characters behind the times and in the reel to reel era and now he is showcasing that he is now catching up with the technology. Who knows?

Awww… it is so cute when the children are shown as being so much smarter than the adults. GAG! Even my 80-something father knows about email and GPS even though he doesn’t use them… and he’s no educator. Come on Greg, why such a low opinion of educators? Even my lousy teachers/counselors were sharper than these folks are.

OH NO!! Not another week of these two. One was too much.

Wow, the ignorance on here is amazing… did it occur to any of you troglodites that all Bernice meant was helping freshmen with directions and locations?

btw, Greg is not stretching the truth very far. My HS counselors were worthless. My parents found 5 different scholarships I was eligible to try for at a school, whereas my counselor said there were none. All he ever did was drink, smoke weed, and sleep with female students who had “daddy issues.”

I don’t think Bernice was literally going to use GPS, just another one of her “comparisons”, like Facebook is the modern “version” of having a bunch of profiles/info on a person. In this same way, she’s comparing the finding directions and giving information/locations to the modern trend of using GPS. I seems that Greg, while possibly showing Phelps as behind, is also showing how our society has changed….

I am SO PROUD of you guys for not mentioning the fact Bernice has been drawn with larger breasts than usual. You are more grown-up than I thought!

Jimmy Kimmel once said never take advice from a HS guidqance counselor too seriously. After all he/she is just a HS guidance counselor.☺

Years ago my nephew was to see HIS guidance counsellor and when ask by my sister if he had seen him, he replied the the counsellor was on suppository (meaning sabbatical) . She didn’t bust on him, because that counsellor was full of crap anyway.

Our high school was so poor that we didn’t have a guidance counselor. We were on our own during 1975-1979.

I’m in contact with technology every day, but even I wouldn’t have known what Bernice meant by “GPS counseling.” (Yes, I know what GPS means!)

Bernice is still too bratty. She has to learn how to talk with all kinds of people, and she’s failing to engage Phelps in the teachable moment here. If she thinks Phelps won’t eventually pick up on the contempt she shows, she has another think coming.

Ms. Phelps is probably aware of email. It has been around since the 60’s — ever since multiple people could log into the same computer. The network was invented in 1971. I’ve been using site-to-site email since 1982. Of course, it took a day or two to get a response then, since all company email was exchanged during the night in big batch files up and down the internet tree. It was called DARPANET then.

About Ms. Phelps, did she Really take time away from counseling to direct freshmen to their lockers, etc. When I was a freshman, it was sink or swim, the Big High Mucketymucks (translate seniors) didn’t even “see” us poor little dogies… ;)

“Who will Bernice bump into while showing…” Maybe Rosa’s little sister or brother? I doubt it would be Aaron…I am beginning to think that Quill has been thrown into the cartoonist’s sea of forgetfulness along with Aaron… ;)

Re. salary and benefits package: Where is this company???!!! I want to be hired posthaste!!! ;)

About giving Luann a chance to “get on with her life”, I meant that it would have been nice to have seen them saying goodbye to each other once Quill landed back in Oz and reconnected with an old girlfriend. How she would have reacted would have been a good “lesson” to teens who are going through a tough time after saying goodbye to their latest boyfriend…especially one who has gone back to a former girlfriend… ;)

Actually, such jobs as that do exist, and it’s generally called ‘Being the CEO of a major corporation. Don’t forget your golden parachute.’
