Aah, poor Gunther! If only you’d paid more attention then… – Quill wasn’t there, but you were ….You need to reflect on the past few months……You had the answers, but now you’re searching for questions, instead. And now, “seeds of doubt” have been planted…And now a little confidence is becoming a little less…..

we shall see what Rosa really wants(but all past scenes point toward she wanting Gunther to be part of her life in South America)

So many posters have suggested that Gunther should find out if Rosa even Wants him to go to Peru…Well, it looks like you all were right! ;)

Rosa’s tino may have enough gravitas to get Gunther a full scholarship at a Peruvian university.

Yes. Not having Gunther in future arcs would be like not having toothpaste for a toothbrush…or something like that! ;)

Rosa most certainly wants him to come with. But…Quill doesn’t know that. So the question remains valid.

Gunther already lost Rosa, so by calling her on the phone, he has nothing to lose.
The question is, does Gunther want to ask Rosa about her plans?

IJB (GoComics wouldn’t let me link my reply!)…anyway, what I was trying to post is that I hope the relationship breakup is quick and not dragged out! There’s nothing worse in a relationship, I think, than to have it unravel at an agonizing pace. Sometimes it is better to cut it clean before it implodes and sends the broken shards of the doomed relationship all over the place within the soul… ;)

And of course he didn’t take her seriously. That’s been the point, all along! She asked him does he ever not plan, because for him, he doesn’t brush his teeth without “checking it off” of his list! She was in hopes to “persuade” him when it was still “just a plan”, but now the luxury of time is slipping away…

Life doesn’t always work with everyone being “blunt”.. some things require tact…. you can tell “Person X” in one way, because their personality is “like so”. “Person Y”, not so much, because of their makeup (for instance, a person who “freaks out” or “stresses out” easily…. sorta like Gunther!) – It happens all around us! We prefer our doctors to “give it to us straight”, because of the nature of such a situation. But when a person hints at wanting to get married, or feels the need to “see other people”, you sort of “feel the water” and pop “little hints” here and there. If you see that there is a “favorable reaction” (such as in the desire to be married), you can then proceed further….

I’ve got a book about John Q. Adams’ wife, Abigail, and her two sisters with whom she had a very close relationship. It is a biography, but mainly consists of letters that they sent to each other. A great read…which is what I am going to resume doing now that I’ve said my piece and then some! =-O ’Nite all!-————————————————————————————-“They cannot scare me with their empty spaces Between stars…on stars where no human race is. When you put it that way, Rosa’s pretty bad at communication. Her best bet is to hook up with a mind-reader!

Rosa wants Gunther to want to go to Peru with her, not just to feel pressured to go. She wants him to decide, not her making the decision for him.
THIS!
We just have to get him there. We don’t need Qull mucking it up with questions that will throw him off his game. We need him focused.
GUNTH, “HABLA CON ELLA!”
Boophilus over 10 years ago
Even if Rosa in February wanted Gunther to join her, that doesn’t mean she still feels that way in June. Or it may be exactly what she was too afraid to hope for all along. Thank goodness Quill is encouraging Gunther to talk to Rosa!-One of the reasons that I’m just “not feeling” the Rosa and Gunther relationship is because I don’t actually “get” what it is. They don’t seem to have talk about things. Rosa seemed in satisfied with the physical aspect. They don’t seem to like to do the same sort of things or have congruent life goals. They like each other obviously, which is all you need to start dating. I realize this is my personal interpretation of a work of fiction. Other interpretations are valid.-I’m not saying Gunther shouldn’t try to go to Peru for the summer. It doesn’t seem too feasible (costs, red tape) but if determined and with a place to stay it’s doable. Gunther just better make sure Peru is really where he wants to be, with or without Rosa, before ditching the university plans (or delaying a year). A gap year can be great. You gotta do it for yourself, though, not for someone else. I’m curious to see what is idea was – Peru for the summer? Or a year?

The actual Plan C, going by Luann’s list of plan, is to dangle herself out there like bait on a hook. She wants to see if Gunther takes the bait, that is, her, and goes off on the adventure. It’s her idea of testing his manhood, more or less.

Doesn’t matter what Rosa thinks, Gunth. You haven’t the funds or the Passport for this adventure.Move on.
Argy.Bargy2 over 10 years ago
For all those who seem convinced that, because Rosa didn’t emphatically state to Gunther that she wasn’t kidding about Peru, you need to consider the fact that Rosa has been raised in a family and culture that probably differs significantly from the ‘standard’ US culture.-First point: her father is a diplomat, which means not only has Rosa lived in multiple places, but that she has always had to ‘adapt’ to whatever circumstances she found herself in.-Second point: although she was born a US citizen, like many women whose parents probably were foreign-born, she has been raised to be somewhat subservient to her parents’ wishes. I had a cousin who married an American-born Korean woman, whose naturalized parents had raised her with rigid expectations that she would be an engineer or doctor, and would (of course) marry a boy with similar ethnic heritage. When she decided to become a nutritionist and marry a white man, her father disowned her.
Angelalex242 over 10 years ago
Actually, in the world of a comic strip, trivial things like passports and funds meet with handwavium. All practical matters are useless. The only thing that matters: Is Gunther man enough to run off with Rosa with no real warning, thus proving him spontaneous enough for her liking…or not?

For all those pointing out that it’s not “Tino” but “Tio”, it may be that JB’s fingers hit the “n” accidentaly. Or if by phone, that “dumb” autocorrect “got in the way”….

luckyluckyme over 10 years ago
Wow Quill, you are not helping at all (in australian accent _ Wasn’t tyrin to, mate! )
Argy.Bargy2 over 10 years ago
-No, I wasn’t suggesting that Rosa’s folks would disown her, but rather that she has a much heavier struggle within herself to assert herself than the average US kid. So she couldn’t just casually tell Gunther that she was going to Peru (either instead of Yale or before Yale) until she had her uncle’s ok.-And she also would have a much more difficult time telling Gunther that she wasn’t kidding about Peru, or the other options if she was raised not to raise a ruckus, but to ‘go along’ and be a peaceful, agreeable girl…

I always had the utmost respect for my parents (until my old man developed a “wandering eye” – putting it nicely.
I could raise that bet easily :-) …. but it’s times like this that I reaaaaaallly wish GoComics would implement “Private Mail.” There’s lots of things I’d love to go into with some of you, but shouldn’t on a public forum about comic strips…
I’m not saying it’s as I described “everywhere…” more than likely only families with sufficient wealth to fight over…. But I’d think, as a diplomat, Rosa’s parents meet that criteria, sufficiently…. especially if they’re talking about financing a Yale education for her.
I’m happy that you became so self-sufficient so early in life. I wish I had… It might still not change anything in respect to my own parents, but it would make a bunch of things a lot easier, at this point.
Boophilus over 10 years ago
Parents don’t have financial control over young adults. They have control over their OWN finances. If you want to be “Miss Independent”, then don’t expect to be able to be DEdepdent on Mummy and Daddy’s allowance. They have a right not to financially invest in endeavors they think are detrimental. Granted, they may be wrong about the value of the experience. Still, the price of freedom is responsibility.

The character, Gunther, is too young and too immature to make a decision to ditch his game plan. Knowing Gunther, its not raging hormones, so it must be that Rosa is his support system. She tells him what to do, just like his mother. Although Rosa is sexy, warm, and willing, that boy just isn’t ready for prime time. Most guys would be all over her by this stage in their relationship.
TORAD_07 over 10 years ago
So far, with my son that just graduated, we have not had to pull that card. He has ‘pulled himself up by his own bootstraps’ and knows we are here to help and guide him – not to engage in a ‘test of wills,’ if you may. I know not all parents and all kids are the same. Unfortunately, parenting just does not seem to be one of those “one size fits all” things… :)
No, it does not. :(
I’m also happy your son has the right attitude. Because it’s just going to get worse, i think, as competition for resources accelerates. Funny… I been reading stories about these “mega-$$$” celebs who started with nothing, want their kids to grow up with that ethic… hence, “no inheritance.” Sting was the most recent example thereof. That could also, however, be an “Estate/Inheritance Tax” avoidance thing, but….
I’m not sure I’d go that far with my $$$ or my kids (assuming I had either)… ;-) I’d do whatever I could while they’re trying to make their own living, and the rest I’d save until after “I’m outta here.” Even in a “tough love” scenario, I’d still leave the offending kid something… but with a warning…. “This is it… no more, since I won’t be here to give you more…. use it wisely…” But I’d rather give it to them than give it to Uncle Sam. on the “double dip…” :-(
