The topless torsos lining the hallway were a pretty good clue. Probably Gunther didn’t recognize what they were.

The woman on the right is there for her fifth round of lip enlargement. I think we see why Rosa’s uncle could afford to zip off to Madrid for a meeting.

Perhaps it’s a clinic with a lot of different sections for plastic surgery, chiropractor, acupuncture, dentistry- you know, your usual “HMO” in LA…. – And without all the sick people to “cramp up” the atmosphere….

Gunther I need 10 d-cups and 7 c-cups. LMAO! But for real, Gunther will get WAY more out of this than Rosa. Plastic surgeons are obscenely paid. Only heart and brain surgeons make more.

…And Rosa’s dreams are crushed on the rocks of reality. Her uncle doesn’t help the poor at all, really, he helps the wealthy who can afford elective surgery. Gunther, on the other hand, should be fine. Hey, at least helping with boob enlargement might make him comfortable enough to touch Rosa.

And it also looks like “Ms. Avis” from “One Big Happy” has a new place to go……

Kind of a funny night… Guess I’ll take IS Katie upstairs with me…she’s sound asleep right now next to my computer desk. We went for a late walk this evening and I tired her out! Rosa is very disappointed as she thought that him helping the poor meant doing it in meager situations, but I am sure that he can afford to help poor people for free thanks to the rich people paying big for his services, and that way he can do for free for poor people who were badly burned or kids born with a cleft nose and/or mouth

Here’s hoping her uncle is also involved with Smile Train or something similar….

Okay, too soon to judge the story, because I don’t know where Greg is leading us, but it would seem that Rosa screwed up. And, she took Gunther with her. Where is the pre-trip sexual tension that Rosa encouraged? Gunther went along because he thought he’d be lost without her, and so they “ran off” together, got a hotel, and……………what? Where’s the passion, the raging hormones, the intimate dinners, the public displays of affection? I’ve seen more sex in old Mickey Mouse comics.

The best we can hope for is that Rosa realizes that her uncle is doing good work, maybe using his income from the wealthy so that he can also treat patients who really need plastic surgery but can’t afford it. (You don’t necessarily have to have to work in an impoverished rural village to do that.) She will also realize that helping people that way requires of course a medical degree, and she will see the necessity of going back to the USA to study at Yale and get the required undergraduate background. She will also realize that her time with Gunther ever since they arrived in Peru has been a total waste, and she will move on with her life in that department, too. It’s time to dump the dweeb, Rosa.

She doesn’t even have a nose.

Oh, come on. I don’t think I’ve ever failed to restrain myself from saying this about one of Greg’s strips before, but this is just stupid. “We’re going to volunteer at my uncle’s clinic in Peru.” But oh HO. It’s not a rural clinic for the needy … wakka wakka.

At this rate Rosunther will decide Moony Uni is better for them after all and go home. I suppose Evans found his attempts to create new characters isn’t working out as planned.

How does a woman who was headed to the Ivy League not check to find out what her uncle actually does before flying off to Peru? I’m just really disappointed in this whole setup.

Gee, I guess this just proves that old saying, just because you’ve got the grades to get into Yale, doesn’t mean you’re smart.

Did Rosa ever hear the phrase, “look before you leap”?

Plastic surgeon in Peru? Rosa was hoping for more adventure. What will happen next?

This storyline doesn’t appear to really be going anywhere and neither are Gunther and Rosa.

Rosa is about to be completely disillusioned. I don’t think they will be here long. They will be back in America going to same school as Luann.

So… today’s comic seems to further support my notion of frustration at the lack of planning and/or forethought by Rosa (and we already know of Gunther’s lack of this in this particular story arc). But, which of the following two potential forks in the story arc are most likely….++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++A) When Rosa’s Uncle shows up we find that he is also deeply involved with using his skills in plastic surgery to help impoverished folks in distant, non-urban areas of Peru with “cosmetic” surgeries that drastically improve their lives and well-being (such as cleft pallet repair surgeries)…. and this is where Rosa and Guther will go to get the experiences they had both envisioned.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++B) When Rosa’s Uncle shows up we find that the disillusioned duo further finds that everything is too posh, too urban for their tastes and they traipse back to the states and enroll in Moony U during the last few days of the semester’s drop/add period?++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++C) When Rosa’s Uncle shows up we find that Gunther is enamored with the ideas and efforts of the posh plastic surgery “clinica” and Rosa is further disillusioned, both in her Uncle and in Gunther and simply leaves… with Gunther at a new cross roads…. to stay and explore more… or to high tail it back to the states++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++D) When Rosa’s Uncle shows up we break back to all the other story arcs and do not hear anything about Rosa or Gunther until say mid-November, where the story will have taken another unpredictable turn that none of us can successfully predict (the sky is the limit here). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++So, which do you predict as the most likely?

So, Sheriff;s “BINGO” I guess was that the uncle was a Plastic Surgeon. Can’t recall who called it here (I know I didn’t)… But it may also be the reason why the parents felt “at ease” with letting Rosa work in her Uncle’s “clinic.”

We’ll wait and see now how it gets resolved…

I’m sure disillusioned Gunther will be returning home soon.

For those who believe that you can never ‘do good works’ for people unless you have an advanced degree, you’ve obviously never heard of Helen Bamber. Helen died this week at age 89, after a lifetime of advocating for victims of war, genocide and torture.-When she was 20, she traveled alone to post WW 2 Germany to take care of the former captives of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. She had joined the Jewish Relief Unit, a group who went to Germany to help the Holocaust survivors. At Bergen-Belsen, she distributed food and blankets to 12,000 who were living in an old army barracks.-But the biggest contribution she made, after the 18 months she spent in Germany, was forming a foundation that concentrated not on documenting abuses, but on treating victims of abuses.That foundation (named for her) continues that work to this day.-“People wanted to tell their story and I was able to receive it,” she was quoted by the British publication_ ‘The Observer’_ as saying. "…I would say to them, ‘I will tell your story. Your story will not die. It took me a long time to realize that that was all I could do.’

..ahem … with all possible humility … CALLED IT !!!!

I don’t disparage plastic surgons. They have a lot of talent and frankly tend to do as much for reconstruction/ fixing deformaties as they do for vanity.. When my son was 14 months old he had a hemeangenomia on his lower eyelid that burst and bleed every time it was touched for over a month. He’d wake up from naps covered in blood. People said he looked like a zombie, and ax murderer, and a devil crying blood. .The dermitologists that my pediatrician recomended wouldn’t touch him becuase it was too close to his eye, the eye surgeons wouldn’t touch him becuase he was too young. There were only 2 doctors who could do something like that, a hour away from us, and they were both booked for 2 months berore they could even SEE him. You can’t bandage a baby’s eye ball for months and the blood loss and possible infection were talking a toll..So finally the pediatrician recomended a local plastic surgeon, who fixed the problem, quickly, and beautifuly. There’s a scar if you stare from a few inches away, but considring when a derm. insisted on removing a mole from my daughter’s leg a few years later and LEFT ONE OF THE STICHES IN, and a huge gapping hole that is still a very noticeable scar years later, I’m thankful we had to get the plastic surgeon..Oh, and of all the other patients waiting in his waiting room, only one of them didn’t have VISABLE defomaties.

Gunther, don’t you dare become his patient.

Poor Rosa is contemplating either helping the masses look beautiful or running, while Gunther is going to become a plastic surgeon.

Hopefully he repairs what damages others have done, and it isn´t the “after – waiting” room.

The exec secretary has had quite a bit of work done, too. But really, Rosa flew off to Peru to work for an uncle, and no one in her family told her what he does? That’s really a bit too much even for a comic strip. Unless she thought he was repairing cleft palates and harelip, which he may well do in the rural areas. Hmm.

That must have been quite a phone conversation Rosa and her uncle had.“Hi, it’s Rosa. Can I come work for you at the clinic in Peru instead of going to Yale?”“OK.”“Where is it?”“Just go to Lima. I’ll have someone pick you up at the hotel.”“What do you do there?”“Oh, you know, operations and other medical procedures.”“What can I do there?”“We’ll see.”“When can I start?”“Two weeks from today. I won’t be there, but still.”“Sounds great. Forget Yale!!!”“OK, bye.”“Bye!”

Thankfully we have plastic surgeons that do excellent work in repairing deformities and the results of accidents. I won’t be surprised if Rosa’s uncle does such repairs for the poor as well as for the rich.

yay Rosa! You gave up an Ivy League college education to work in your uncle’s clinic where he does plastic surgery procedures that no ethical doctor in the US would perform!

Gunther sussed out “what kind” quickly enough. But what about Rosa? How will she handle the revelation that her uncle is a plastic surgeon at a posh, urban clinic (even if he does contribute to a rural clinic, too)? —We have yet to meet the uncle, and he could turn out to be a very admirable guy, even if not what exactly what Rosa had originally imagined….

Maybe he performs a lot of reconstructive procedures too. Cleft palates, hare lips, burn injuries, etc.

I think the woman in the purple chair got boobs and lips bigger, and nose tinier. May have even got cleft put in chin.

Rosa – Go back to college – find another way to save the world. However Tiffany might like working at this clinic.

So…will Rosa continue on with this, find a genuine charitable organization to volunteer for, or decide to go to Yale after all? I vote for a transition to Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross, or the Peace Corps.

I’m looking for romance, and all I get is a honker cutter in some foreign country.

What I was afraid the Sheriff was suggesting was something totally different, and I think would be out of character for Mr. Evans. I saw the Sheriff’s comment as referring to a type of surgery called ‘gender re-assignment’. Hope not…

Frankly, any doctor who repeatedly indulges a patient in unneeded plastic surgery that ends up with results like this should have his or her med license revoked…
