It is of interest that abstinence-only sex education is more likely to lead to pregnancy. That means Luann would be more likely to become pregnant rather than less. Lately I only read this for the unintentional laffs.

This spring I under took the writing of a book. And what I’ve found is that the characters really do take on a life of their own. Writing , in essence, their own stories. It’s kind of like taking dictation. Quill is a real live person in side Evans’ mind. Quill is in love with Luann. No different or less intense than Romeo was with Juliet. Remember Romeo risked everything and paid the ultimate price. Quill will do that too, with no thought for himself. Something happened to Quill before he met Luann that shaped his life and prepared him for this experience. I only hope Luann is worthy of this most excellent opportunity.

Why is it that girls are the only ones who are “not ready”? Guys are always assumed to be chomping at the bit whereas their girlfriend has to overcome some undefined barrier before they are “ready”. It would be interesting if a story would examine what female readiness actually meant. The impression I get is that it is treated as a barrier of pure emotion, and not emotions in the sense of things like love, hate, and the like but rather in the sense that of pure irrationality and arbitrariness. To me not being ready should mean the inability or unwillingness to deal with the consequences of action. Teenagers of course lack the ability, especially in today’s world, to make long term rational decisions taking into account the full breadth of consequences that may result from action. Quill has been done a disservice in that he was never taught enough responsibility to understand that just because a woman says she’s ready doesn’t mean that he is ready to deal with what may result from the physical act of love.

In my opinion, I think today’s effort shows maturity on the part of Luann and bland Quill. I also think today’s comic represents quite well, real-world actions by two young 18 year olds who are THINKING about their individual and mutual futures. I find this presentation to be fair, appropriate, and realistic. For those of you who are suggesting this is “not realistic” I would suggest the following…. I can grant you that there is a percentage of folks who do not have much control over their impulses (whether it is for copulating or for anything else…. speeding, shoplifting, etc)…. that is a given. But, for the way we have seen Luann brought up, and the way she usually acts, she is showing at least some thought and reasoning behind her actions. The same holds true for what we know about bland Quill. Whether or not Luann and bland Quill eventually copulate (prior to marriage or after marriage), the fact that they are both spending some time thinking instead of just reacting with virtually no impulse control is a very good thing.

Luann : here Kiss meQ :no no we should not kiss, we are not married yetL: when should we get married?Q: as soon as we get good pay jobs and your dad give us his blessing-———————————-is sad that so many people(I am not going to assume the “applaud what is happening between Q and L” are old geezers and ones “who want L to not be a virgin” are 30 or less) want strips to be a MTV show or a ABC family show and not a regular network TV show(newsflash, as much as some think so, this is not a Disney channel show) ……………………………..’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’as I shown, for first year college kids, Lue represents about 55% of girls in the USA and Q represents about 30% of kids who are in college at the USA, so this is fairly typical of 1st year college people, they go to 2nd and even 3rd base but have decided not to go to round all the bases, it is almost certain(but will never be shown or implied YET) that Lue has masturbation experience and so it is with Q ……………………… Q and L are portrayed as human beings who are barely able to contain themselves but ARE NOT SAINTS and should be celebrated for not being people who become “have sex at least 3 times a week” or worse, promiscuous people who do not think of consequences of being intimate with anyone

I tend to agree with both of you (Caldonia and RB2) about “Why not just skip the issue [copulating] entirely?” and focus on other story arcs. I think because the issue of sex can be so very multifacted…. AND because (like Dave 53 suggests) it can become such an “After School Special” sort of schlocky melodrama…. it would be more entertaining IMO to address the myriad of other aspects of their relationship, work, and school.

RB2…. I think you miss my point. I said the thought process they are going through is realistic for young 18 year olds who have impulse control. I think both of them do. I personally think your suggestion that second and third base milestones should be presented at this stage of their relationship is unrealistic. I mean, realistically, are we supposed to have Greg draw a naked Luann and a naked, bland Quill? I think not. From the disheveled nature of Luann’s and bland Quill’s clothing, the suggestion is that a base or two beyond first may have been reached. Again, I do not think it is unrealistic for two 18 year olds to choose to wait to copulate… even if they have been dating “for a whole year” or more. A lot of folks have more impulse control than that.

as I said, lot of people ASSUME or act like that 99.44% of teens in 1st year at college already had coitus when I already established that for girls over 55% have not done coitus and this arc IMPLIES that Lue has reached or almost reached 3rd base and was almost going all the way except that Q and L do not want to if the other does not want to(if one of them have said “let’s do it” they would have done it) and is almost implied she has masturbated(people are more likely to masturbate if they already go to 3rd base or even 2nd base) …………. for boys is 25 to 30% but that is another matter(assume lot of boys either go to the ones from the 45% who have multiple partners or they visit escorts) ……………….. this is your quote " missing it’s target audience anyway" (teens) which makes it sound like you think 99% of teens want characters to have done it ……………. and I do not think is about Evans preaching, but the Evans wanting to establish where their characters stand AT THIS MOMENT

as funny as it might sound to some, if we go by “2nd and 3rd base” (not thinking all the way)……….. the girls who are basically 100% likely to have done it are Luann and Toni and even Bern(with Zane), Knute and Crystal is hard to read, could be either way………….. Delta is also hard to read, she has high standards but at same time if she makes a decision, she makes one wholeheartedly, and Rosa is 50-50 (no way that in Peru, specially during the village stay, that she and G have not gone at least second base ………….G I don’t see as being shy to be with a GF, but someone who is not? coughTiffcough he would be shy to do it) …..the one who is least likely to have gone to 3rd base(maybe she did second but there is a chance she has not either) is Tiff, she is all about image, and being taken to a nice restaurant or concert and such so she is a tease and a flirt but never seen her going farther than that, even with Aaron (he seems to have gone farther with Luann and Diane and even the deaf girl than with Tiff)

Am I the only one who thinks we haven’t seen the last of her childhood crush, Aaron? This would be a perfect time for him to reappear.

Not very realistic. How many hot and bothered teens would BOTH call it quits right when things got heavy? Not likely…….. one, maybe, not both.

Too much emphasis on realistic vs. not realistic. (1) It’s a comic, duh and (2) There is actually more drama to the story if Evans drags it out a bit. Not to be too extreme, that’s why porn is more boring (and short) than a well done love story.

glad that it looks like we will not get anymore spoilers of next week, and little by little is being fixed(looks like they decided to leave them as they are until each correct date comes instead of making them disappear)

I’m seeing more Karen involvement here than Greg … telling men how women should be treated. . . . . . "-—————————————Greg had intended to send Quill off to Australia for good. Karen got him to call Q. back. .So until Karen gets tired of diddling with Q, we are likely to have him.

one possible storyline(realistic according to what we know of characters and what has been shown and said) would be how Lue would feel if Quill would be “generally faithful to Lue” BUT decides to call an escort service girl and she finds out(or Q tells her) as Q said he is ready to be intimate(could mean that he might feel ready to get married to Luann or that he might be aroused with the idea of losing his virginity)

There will be female interns in NY and most will probably be smarter than Luann and genuinely cuter than Tiff. .Some may find Quill attractive and/or exotic and thus be eager to do what they can to please him.

and she replies, “should I practice also and get paid?” and he says “only if it is with me” or they could decide to make money by showing how they cuddle on a website, you will be surprised about what some people are willing to pay to see, and some people get paid 60 dollars per hour just to cuddle and snuggle with person paying

I waited till I was ready. Everyone I dated respected that. It is not archaic. When you educate your children they will approach the situation in a mature manner. I have 2 teenage sons who are also waiting. And no, they are not just feeding me a line. My older step sons waited until they were in their early 20s and with someone they could see themselves with long term. It is faulty to assume teenagers are incapable of self control.

How completely repressed. Somebody needs therapy. I can happily say … this comic has become utterly disinteresting.

With your writing style, I keep hearing your voice with a “Soprano’s” style New Jersey accent. Are you by any chance from that region?

I think Quill’s reaction is realistic, because when I was 19 I said something similar (“if you don’t think you are ready, then we won’t”). This is why my high school girlfriend could three months later lose her virginity to the man she eventually married. Lots of possible plot twists available.

but wouldn’t it be more efficient to just mail directly to the 7 teens in the U.S. who actually follow Luann? Let’s face it, the vast majority of us here are “north of 40” … . . . . "-——————————————How do you know this?

@ct0760yeah…that’s not realistic, it feels like the writings of an old fashioned parent… :/ . . . . ."-—————————————————————Remember Greg’s own personal history – he fathered an illegitimate child when he was too young to marry. The child was given up to adoption. ,So maybe we should forgive him for feeling how he does about this. He is a wounded veteran of parentalism , not some fuddy-duddy.

But Aaron is more likely to be bi- than a candidate for trans-..However, I doubt we will ever see Aaron again..Nevertheless, I’d like to see several of the old characters back. Ben York in particular.

if 2 people want to be “passionate” is their business, but for me is stupid to support someone forcing someone else to do what they don’t want to, so it is always important to respect what the other person does or does not want to do as long as it does not mean not respecting oneself

“But then it only covered white males who owned land. Now it partly covers everyone to varying degrees.”.Because those generous landed, white men extended it to the rest of us. Further, it did not so much limit who they were so much as to who citizens were.Regardless, the point was that you majority types wouldn’t be able to lord it over us minority types. (Ultimately everyone is a minority of one sort or other.)

not necessarily, but it would be like the show “highway to heaven” becoming like “game of thrones” in what they show…………. but I guess the best yardstick might be see the difference between Luann and 9 chickeweed in circulation
