Am I enthralled on that talent, Bernice? Not e’en the slightest.

The talent that Bernice demonstrated is one of the reasons why Gunther is convinced that she is his soul mate. Here’s an interesting idea: Gunther visits The Fuse, sees the poster, and figures that THIS is a way to get together with Bernice. So he’ll set up a ‘try out’ for a math team that would participate in the Talent Contest, but, just like Bernice’s silent movie night, he will steer others away in the hope that only Bernice would show up. And he’ll be prepared with snacks…

That would get you four X’s on America’s Got Talent, Bernice.

Why didn’t she round it off to $2.00 or $2.25?

Enough. Just tell Bernie that old Star Head is entering, and She’s In, Luann.
Oh and don’t forget to NOT mention the Talent Show to Tiffany….,

How would it be ethical for her to participate in the talent show when her parents own The Fuse?? If she won, everyone would think it was rigged.

Very pricy small salad unless it was full off items like purslane, mizuna, or other costly things. Or, i guess they could have agreed on providing a large tip. We often do, and a friend served them.
SukieCrandall Premium Member over 8 years ago
Oh, gosh, now thinking of what coukd be in the salad i am thinking it might be fun tomorrow to do one built around purslane, mizuna, chickpeas, etc. with a balsamic dressing…

The tip – not the bill, but the tip – on one salad, split 2 ways, and 2 glasses of water is $2.17??? Yeah, that’s some talent you have there, Bernice. You have the talent to immeidately forget what you just finished eating! Or maybe Greg Evans’ own talent is creative math, which allows Frank to conduct a $1M+ real estate transaction for $60K. That was a really great move on Frank’s part, since the profit margin on salad at the Fuse will pay for the deal in just a week!

$11 plus tax for a side salad? Kafe Kablooie’s not going to last long with those prices…

I hate to comment on a tip, but I don’t think they tipped $2.17 cents, I think they tipped on 2.17 cents. That would be quite an expensive salad because 2.17 is 15% of about $32 dollars. So they tipped, if 15% is about .32 cents.

A $2.17 tip for a small salad and two waters. Quickly, in my head, that would have been about $10.50 for the small salad. A bit pricey for two college students.

Ah, given it should be locally sourced if purslane prices this year are in California like they are here (where it is growing like a weed this year ;-)) it is down to a bit over $6/lb. i retract my suggestion to Les.

Tips are iniquitous and should be done away with. ALL hidden costs should be done away with.

Salad tip: This summer (thus far) I’ve been making a terrific salad of interesting greens (usually mustard), diced fresh tomatoes, topped with crumbled feta cheese. Use a non-obtrusive salad dressing.*Easy to make it into a chef’s salad for a complete meal. Total homemade cost is about $.50. Though then you’d miss seeing Ox.

Bernice is the type who would disagree with any idea Luann has for the talent. I will be surprised if they could put an act together. Luann needs someone else or go it alone.

When do Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland show up?
Caldonia over 8 years ago
Either Bernice pulled that number out of thin air to make a nonsensical joke, or TJ is scamming people again by charging way too much for one salad and two glasses of tap water.

Oh I always read this strip, but rarely post in the comments. There’s always so many here that I don’t bother unless there’s something in the strip that is confusing or interesting to see people’s views.

A two dollar tip for two people sharing a table AND being served is minimal, in my opinion. Your server is doing the same work delivering water as he would if it were soda or beer. And two forks to clean, if not a second plate.
Short answer: Percentages are fine for a full meal, but also think in terms of percentage-free minimums if you’re eating on the cheap side.
locake over 8 years ago
No wonder they had to split the small salad, since it cost over $10.

5My take on the “tip” is that these days many folks (myself included) will typically tip 20%. If that is the case with Bernice and Luann, it would mean that the small salad was $10.85. Now, in my parts, that is a rather pricey salad, but in California, where things are often very, very pricey compared to my neck of the woods, I could potentially imagine finding a “simple” salad that costs $10.85.Onto the “Talent Show”…. I am presuming (but may be wrong) that Luann and Bernice will do something as a team in the talent show, but I guess they could each do something solo. Who else would we like to see perform at the talent show?TJ & Pru both would be fun to see… but I presume both would be ineligible because they work at “The Fuse”. Then again, in many venues, Luann herself would not be eligible either because she is the daughter of the owners of “The Fuse” so in that regard, maybe TJ and Pru could also perform.Tiffany would be interesting to see… but I hope she isn’t given a story arc where she does not perform well…. which I could see happen given the Luann-Tiffany old school rivalry and story arcs from the past.Quill…. I am very hopeful that Schrodinger’s Dog is absolutely correct in that Quill will not enter the talent show because he quit “The Fuse” and wants no part in its doings. Jock and/or Emo could be very entertaining and I hope they are part of the show. I could imagine Emo doing something like a somber poetry slam sort of thing. Who knows what Jock might do.Dez would be great fun too…. but it seems as if her character has been more of a “worker behind the scene” sort of character, so it may not be likely for her to be in the show.Hair would be interesting (but I guess he, and Dez as well, and any of the other Moony students who are not from Pitt would possibly have gone home for the Summer since they were living in the dorm.)Piro… he IMO is likely a Moony student, but seems to me likely to be remaining around the area (given his drifter behavior). It would be very interesting for him to be in the talent show.Gunther… eh… for me, I think Gunther in the Talent Show would either be portrayed in too much of either an excessively “slapstick” sort of way or too “dramatic” a sort of way to be entertaining, so I hope he is not in the Talent Show.

What really influences our tipping are1. Restaurants having options or creating options for my husband’s lacto-ovo-vegetarianism and his two severe food allergies.2. Restaurants suggesting options or creating options that do not include the foods which cause anaphalaxis for me (which is pretty long because besides one specific food allergy the other food allergies have generalized through two plant taxonomic families and through crustaceans). We have tipped as high as 40% in the more extreme situations.A friend used to work as a waitress while working (successfully) to break into her desired field. A man once left her $100 for a slice of pizza. At least once a year she will surprise a waitress with a similarly proportioned tip. She at times will also walk around w an armful of flowers, giving away individual flowers to brighten people’s days.

Re “pricey salads”: We must also remember that Kafe Kablooie is a “boutique” eatery located inside an entertainment venue. $10 or $11 for a small salad would not be an uncommon price at such a location..It also explains why two waters instead of something like iced tea, which is probably priced somewhere around $2.50 to $3.00 each, depending on whether or not refills are included.

Hmmmm, since no prizes are listed it might be an old style show where level of audience clapping determines the winners.Somehow. I imagine Shannon performing a Shirley Temple routine.

Oh, i stand corrected. One of the two most recent people to get one of those huge tips from our friend was a waiter who has a dream he is pursuing while working; she is not gender specific for such gifts but needs to realize the person is also working on a dream.

Reply is glitchy again. Luanaphile, a second good one happened, too. Given that Orders of Protection often do not work, and Maine’s gun ban for those convicted of domestic violence stood up w SCOTUS, this could be an effective addition to help protect innocent people.

Tell me, did you deliberately ignore all of the previous comments discussing the price of the salad, or did you just post without thinking?Jastcaird over 8 years ago
This last week or so seems Like padding. ZzzzI suppose it is meant to show Bernice, the dull nit picker in contrast to when she falls head over heels for someone.

And he’s also in charge of the talent contest. We can all see the talent he’s displaying …

Perhaps she already sent it to Gomer.
How? She had it at the table and hasn’t gone anywhere since. Given that she said she needed more postage, that suggests a trip to the post office … and that didn’t happen in the middle of the shared $10 salad …drewpamon over 8 years ago
