PUT OUT NOW OR SHUT UP, GUNTHY! SHE WANTS A KISS, NOT A WARNING! YOU ARE NOT HER BROTHER! YOU ARE A GUY SHE’S MAD ABOUT! DON’T YOU GET IT?LET LES BE LESS, AND YOU BE MORE ALREADY!
Well, I guess that this settles the issue of whether Tiff is into Les, or whether she was just trying to pump up Gunther.
Personally, I felt like she’s into Les and that this thread will continue. Sorry for those who didn’t want it to happen. But I’m kind of optimistic about this. I think it may be a positive turning point for Les.
But then, if Les turns out to continue being a creep and tries to take advantage of Tiff somehow, it would still make for some entertaining footage. I’m okay with the development either way.
Tiffany turns and grabs Gunther by the labels. She leans into him and says, “No, it’s you silly.” She kisses him sweetly, then goes into her room leaving Gunther standing there looking awestruck. awwww
BTW – there might have been more to that ride home than just conversation. Tiff was definitely wearing pants at the Bergers’ house (June 3, 8). Now she’s wearing her standard micro-miniskirt. Hanky-panky? Or just another Evans don’t-care-about-continuity quirk?
“Aaand know who else made someone happy tonight?” Let’s guess:
1.Jack made Luann happy by breaking her foot so she didn’t have to be in this story.
2.Gunther made Tiffany happy because he managed to have social skills so astoundingly, terrible that every single bit of advice Tiffany gave him seemed like it was coming from a genius. Tiffany is much more accustomed to coming off vain and stupid.
3.Evans made me happy by forgetting that when this story started on 2017/5/29 and even as recently as the strip on 2017/06/08, Tiffany was wearing long black pants. Somewhere after that she changed to shorts, which of means that:
a.Tiffany got a stain on her pants and she changed to the shorts she always carries with her in her purse.
b.Gunther managed to get into Tiffany pants, but he didn’t quite make it past her protective, chastity shorts.
c.They passed by a man drowning in a lake and Tiffany ripped off the bottom of her pants before she dove in to rescue the man.
d.They went to a “Who has the best legs?” contest which Tiffany won after she revealed that her pants were actually tear-away, dance pants.
e.They passed by a roadside accident and Tiffany use the legs of her pants to tie tourniquets saving the man’s life.
Gunther is posturing ownership of Tiff – with no clue how insulting it is. Before they got to the dinner – Gunther told Tiff to ignore Les (a major insult). Now at the parting moment where we could hope for something sweet – Gunther insults Tiff again. So at this moment – Tiff needs to lay some harsh words on Gunther – not a kiss. Hopefully something that would sink in. If Gunther is unable to look within – he’ll never get anything from somebody else.
@KENHENSE: You are very right about Gunther’s attitude causing increased trouble only for Gunther. He switches into ‘anger mode’ so fast, it’s like he’s a split personality. Gunther needs anger management counseling from a real counselor, not Bernice. No matter how much Tiffany is trying to get him to grow up, he’s trapped himself in this rage thing…
In Jungian psychoanalysis, CG Jung said that people need to embrace their “shadow” to become whole individuals. The “shadow”, generally, is all the things people say that they’re not, or don’t want to think that they are. And people tend to project their own “shadow” onto others, and view them as opposites or opponents.
Gunther tends to project his “shadow” side onto Les. He thinks it’s totally wrong for people to be like Les. But in fact, Gunther needs to find his “Les” side and unite with it to become a whole individual. And Tiff is attracted to Les, where she’s seeing everything utterly suppressed or missing in Gunther.
Consider the movie, Black Swan, with Natalie Portman. A ballerina needed to find her shadow side – her “black swan” side – to improve her stage abilities and succeed in her career. Before she did that, she kept projecting her “shadow” onto another ballerina, Mila Kunis, who already had many of the qualities she needed. It’s really an entertaining movie, and all the more interesting with Jungian psychology in mind.
Gunther is right, of course – Les is a crook. It’s interesting that Tiffany and Gunther appear to be just friends, but can talk to each other more easily than they can talk to anybody else.
Last week my prediction was “she will lean in and kiss him” and he will be confused. This is because she really enjoyed the “family life setting”.Now for my BIG question: when did Tiffany change from black pants – to a short skirt?
If, and it’s a big if, but if Tiff is talking about Gunther she is almost certainly saying that she is happy that Gunther finally admitted that Mr. Gray makes his mom happy, etc. His insecurity, anger and control just slammed that door.
The Les/Less problem. Maybe a mnemonic would help. There’s a legendary, probably fictional, tombstone inscription that supposedly describes the fate of the buried individual. “Les Moore, Two slugs from a .44, No less, no more.”
School is out for the summer in the Sunday continuity. What about the daily strips? Is Tiffany attending summer school, or why is she still living in the dorm? Is Bernice patrolling the halls in the daily strips and lounging around in the Sunday panels?
Tiffany left her dorm room in black leggings, which evolved to a pair of black capri then lost her pants under the dinner table, and now is walking back to dorm room in a black sleeve skirt.
Tiffany made Mrs. B happy tonight. It was very nice to have an interesting young woman around who could have a normal conversation. None of the 3 guys seem able or willing to converse.
With hundreds of comments early in the day already, no, I didn’t have time to read them all. Therefore, some of my generalizations may be inaccurate. // Looks like another “dump on Gunth” day. Yes, I know he was grumpy – but it looks like he is continuously being forced to be in what he perceives as a bad situation. I will fault him for not bowing out of these get-together’s, perhaps the only reasonable option open to him. But I agree with those who feel that Les is a creep – and was exhibiting that behavior, as well as hostility toward Gunther. Remember when Les said, “That’s so 15 minutes ago”? Wasn’t that at a moment when Gunther was showing signs of coming out of his shell? But Les just pounded him right back inside. Les is still a bully! No sign of reform here. // Oh, yes. Hat’s off to SallyMargaret, perhaps the only person I noticed who acknowledged that Gunther has reason to be hostile. // Everyone else, it seems like more of the same: Blame the victim!
Les and Tiffany would be a new arc. Looks like this arc is over. Unless, as a handful of you have suggested, Tiffany gives Gunther a kiss! Now, it doesn’t have to be a messy one, and I don’t think the events of this evening warrant one, either. But a “peck on the cheek” might do well to help turn this disastrous evening around.
Gunther is being a gentleman by seeing Tiffany safely to her door. Will she invite him in? Will he accept? Will he break out in a cold sweat when he realizes he is alone with a woman? Kissing anyone is the farthest thing from Gunther’s mind right now.
“Me. I made poor Leslie happy by treating him like an interesting person rather than the perpetual pariah. He has a long way to go but I’ll turn him into a human, just like I’m trying to do with you. (Saintly sort that I am)”
Well, appearances are that Tiffany has fallen into “like” with ’ole Les. This would be a disappointing move in the story. But perhaps all is not as it currently appears. I cannot believe that Tiffany is not at least a little leery of Les, given his actions in high school. Perhaps Tiffany is ONLY happy about the potential of having a new connection for her goals of seeking stardom? Perhaps this is why Les made her “happy” and not any sort of nonsensical romantic interest in him? I hope this is the case, for her sake.
* * * *
Now, what may be happening (a prediction on my part) is that the following may occur:
1. Tiffany, excited about her prospects for a connection to stardom, gives Gunther a small peck on the cheek as she says goodnight at her dorm suite.
2. Gunther, receiving this brief kiss, suddenly realizes he has romantic feelings for Tiffany.
3. Gunther, upon driving back home, misconstrues in his mind, the “significance” of that kiss, and then begins to imagine Tiffany as his next potential soulmate.
4. Upon arriving home, he finds Les and Mr. Gray still there, and Les starts saying misguided, but “suggestive” things about his relationship and plans with Tiffany.
5. Gunther gets riled up given his own misguided feelings for Tiffany, leading to Gunther and Les having a big verbal and/or physical blowout.
* * * *
To me, the above seems a real possibility, as both Gunther and Les have traditionally behaved very foolishly of late. And, Tiffany…. here current “super-happy” demeanor at the moment is also explained because of the theatrical stars in her eyes at the moment.
I don’t understand the eagerness to want to throw Tiffany and Gunther into a romantic relationship. Neither of them has any attributes that the other would be seriously interested in. Tiffany goes for the Jock/Jack hulky party type, and a barely-slick charmer just made her feel good. Gunther is none-of-the-above. A long time ago she had a day or two where she talked to Gunther like some kind of project, but nothing came of it. And Gunther? The brainiac called her “stupid”. He’s not into hot babes. He’s really not into anything except stability and having his mommy for himself. OK, OK, they had their “moment”, and Gunther somehow got paired with Rosa. But all that’s long gone. In short, Tiff and Gunth are in each other’s friendzone.
Hey, Airman, say, “Thank you!” To Greg Evans! You complained about slacks/leggings and a little skirt appeared.
Of course, Tiffany may have changed those before they left to go to the Berger house, or Gunther may have sewn her a skirt, or she may carry a little knit skirt in her bag (as someone i used to know did w a little knit dress and earrings) for quick changes, or Greg Evans might be as human as anyone else here and therefore able to make errors and hopefully laugh about them.
Still, i am going to stick to the change to a skirt being a gift to Airman!
Hi usually I would have commented last night before I went to bed, thus being early in the stream but I was wiped out. I have not had a chance to scroll through the comments other than to say that I have not seen anything to convince me that a romantic relationship is in the offing between Gunther and Tiffany. I think it is a good, maybe even deep friendship, but not a romantic one. I think his revulsion for Les is real (in Luannverse that is) and his concern for Tiffany is based upon that revulsion, and his knowledge of Les’s prior bad acts. On the other hand for Tiffany, Les is attractive, charming, and has that bad boy thing down, being a bad boy. Clearly, her comment about who was made happy was not directed at Gunther who was even more miserable the more the others were enthused with her, particularly Les. On the other hand…Greg is famous for the misdirection play, so its possible romance may flair. Maybe Tiffany likes that Gunther is so concerned about a relationship with Les, and maybe Gunther’s concern is based on more than friendship. But I personally doubt it, and I think the wish that the “babe” suddenly is in love with the “nerd” is wishful projection. If you want that in pop entertainment, check out Kelly Cuoco in Big Bang. She is more than hot enough to drool over wishfully guys.
Shout out to LoCake: There is (are) criminal(s) in this dorm, as the previous – and unresolved arc clearly points out. Therefore, it is totally appropriate for Gunther to escort his date to her door. However, as a gentleman, he has no business going through that door!
Seismic-2: Okay, I get it. No more Tiffany and Gunther. But, no, I’m not ready for a Tiffany and Les arc. I may have been wrong about (Luann and) Jack; apparently, he is what he appears to be, and that’s a just a big, dumb, fun-loving jock. But I have seen nothing to change my opinion about Les: Uncle (Mr. Grey) may be able to control him, but it is not apparent that anyone else can. And as the dinner clearly pointed out, his bullying behavior has yet to abate. // A Les and Tiffany arc may end up getting into dating violence, perhaps even date rape. I see nothing good coming of such an arc. // Of course, as the artist, Greg is free to prove me wrong at any time! But my lifetime of experience with guys like Les seems to say otherwise. // Not sure if I could watch a Les and Tiffany match up. It would be like watching a NASCAR race and waiting for that fifty car pile-up – with flames! // In my humble opinion, Les may be the first true villain Greg has introduced into this strip. People may complain that Gunther is a “mommy’s boy” and everything that has happened to him is his own (fill in the blank) fault. But I see a boy who has been traumatized – and the most likely source of that trauma appears to be Les!
Gunther still doesn’t realize how much he likes Tiffany. And Tiff in panel 3 seems disappointed by his obtuseness. She may still invite him into her suite to continue the conversation and maybe have a cup of tea; and, if so, maybe something more of a romantic nature could develop. But I doubt Gunther will cooperate….
To figure out what or who made Tiffany happy at the dinner one has to look at all her facial expressions. The two times that she was wide eyed were: (1) when Les said his uncle knew someone in Hollywood and (2) when Tiff was with facing Mrs. Berger (last scene)…. unfortunately also when she was looking at the paper that Les had given her while in the car.

Gunth made Tiff happy, or Tiff made Les happy?

Everybody made everybody happy, except for Gunther. Nobody made him happy. Yet.

I think Gunther is about to kiss Tiffany like he kissed Rosa when he asked Rosa to the prom.

maybe it’s Tiffany who made Les happy not the other way around. perhaps that is what he wrote on the slip of paper that he gave her.

The Evanses have created a deliberate ambiguity about who[m] is meant by Tiffany. Makes us look forward to tomorrow.
