Oh goody. Gunther is being proactive and take control of his mom’s antiques sale. Les, pay attention and learn. Some stuff might be old but if they are vintages and are collectible because they are made by certain name brands, they can be valued in a range of hundreds to thousands. Better than the money your mom Ann could ever make scamming people. Best of all, that is a honest and legit sale.
They’re really beating us over the head with the whole “Les is conniving yet stupid” thing this week, huh? Still it’s not as bad as Tiffany’s week of therapy, what with the exact same punchline being delivered all those days in a row.
The difference between old junk and vintage stuff is whether or not someone appreciates the nostalgia and is willing to pay what you want for it. You may have a 300 year old sofa that was handed down as a family heirloom. But if you tried to sell it at a yard sale(which is a bad place anyway) most customer will just see “old used sofa.”
I guess mom didn’t really impart any knowledge to Les. A good salesman/scammer needs knowledge of the product and the customer as well as a good understanding of basic psychology/human behavior.
Looks like posting on Craig’s list is the way to get rid of this junk AND make money. As someone who has had garage sales for decades and only in the last 6 years started using the internet to sell stuff, the internet works much better! Garage sales are better for real junk. Baby clothes, stuffed animals, 8-track tapes. HAHAHA
I believe Al had just about all he could take, looking after Le$ and would do ANYTHING to be RID of him.
And if that meant marrying Irma, building a Gulag Guest House in the backyard and forcing the responsibility of looking after his IDIOT nephew on Gunther, then so BE it.
No wonder Al hasn’t spoken to Gunther yet. He feels to GUILTY to do so.
Gunther, I dunno “Who” G & K have in mind for You as a Girlfriend, but I hope she has her Own place where You can crash, and She does NOT have her OWN Idiot “roommate.”
@Schrodinger It’s kinda looking that way isn’t it? With the immanent breakup (apparently) of the Brad/Toni/TJ triumvirate and the “buying a house” arc.
I predict the dynamic will be totally different though. First, Brad and TJ, for whatever the reason, tolerated each others foibles because they were pals. Toni has upset the apple cart but in a non-competitive way. Second, Gunther and Les are not “pals.” And the kicker here will be Tiffany (IMHO). Tiffani is being positioned as a disruptive, competitive element between the two, as opposed to the Toni character.
I would really appreciate it if this arc finished up not with a visit from Tiffany like everyone seems to expect (and the roommates fighting over her), but with a visit to a furniture store by the two guys as they use the money made by selling Irma’s furniture to buy a couch, lamps, kitchen table and chairs. AND if a saleswoman at the furniture store turns out to be an old high school classmate of Gunther’s, and the two of them agree to a date…
So Gunther’s smarts are coming into play. Nevertheless, Gunther would have been happy to live with his Mom’s furniture, if Les hadn’t clued him in on how weird their place would look for two guys.

In the last panel, Gunther’s face reminds me of when he became inebriated after guzzling the rest of Luis’ beer in Peru.
