But I think I was right in what I said yesterday in response to kenhense’s comment that Les would leave his dirty dishes in the sink for Gunther to wash. I just didn’t figure Les would order food, because you usually have to tip the person who delivers…
Chicago style pie?? The tomatoes are on the top. Though Les’ slice looks pretty thin. So now we get to see the excitement of them moving in! Get the coffee out Mordy, this week is going to be a real rip snorter!! I wonder if they will discover the dishes to all be Vintage too?? Oh the anticipation!!
It could have been worse, Gunther! You could have answered the call and had to try to be a part of that conversation, instead of just hearing it on voicemail!
I have a sneaking suspicion that G&K is trying to do all-male erc. Luann is usually female-dominant strip, revolving Luann and her many female friends including a few male pals like Gunther, Knute once removed by Crystal of which are now gone from strip, a male sibling, and her dad – and current romantic interests such as Piro, Quill, Jack, Nil, etc. So it is possible they are doing an arc with only the male characters starring.
Here we go again. It’s one thing for a son to avoid considering his mother in a sexual light, but sooner or later you accept it. Gunther’s revulsion (and having it crammed down our throats again) is beginning to seem a bit over the top.
Probably most people wouldn’t be nuts about hearing their mother getting diddled, but Gunther has a more serious problem. And that high chair has to go…
Well Le$. Are You going to just sit there stuffing Gunther’s share of the pizza IN your face? Or are you going to go out and buy that “manly” furniture you’ve been agitating for, using somebody else’s money?
………and then came a knock at the door and Tiffany appeared needing her favorite seamstress for the buttons she had just popped on her top. Gunther’s appetite returned.
While a segue to a follow on with the wedding/honeymoon theme or a moving in together theme would be somewhat My prediction from Saturday’s strip:logical and interesting, I’m predicting; Not Gonna Happen!
Not only was I wrong, I was wrong twice! Both the honeymoon and the moving in themes were in the first strip of the week.
While I am glad that Irma and Al are enjoying their honeymoon and apparently having ample physical fun with each other…. if the “Oh Al !” and “Oh my!” and “Tee hee hee!” and “EEEEE!” are suggesting what I believe they are suggesting, I think Irma is being QUITE odd and more than a little over the top in this instance.
I do not really think anyone would like to receive a voice mail message from anyone while they are in a moment of some degree of passion with another person. Other people here suggest that today’s comic is a reflection of Gunther’s “issues”…. but I disagree in this case. While Gunther has displayed less than stellar behavior in earlier arcs in regards to Irma and Al…. I feel his response today was pretty normal. I think most folks would be a bit put off by receiving a voice mail message from anyone (their parents, their boss, their kids, their crazy cousin Jeremy, etc) where it was rather obvious that the message giver was engaging in some other more intimate activity at the same time.
Again, I am glad that Irma and Al are enjoying each other physically. But, come on, leaving a voice mail message while doing so?! Anyone receiving that message would find it somewhat off putting.
I’m getting pretty fed up with the whole Gunther/Tiffany/Les situation and the way GnK are handling it.
1) We know (knew?) Gunther had feelings for Tiff with the whole salamander science project arc.
2) Yet on 8/8/2015 he sounds like he cedes the field to Les, or any other male for that matter as Tiff later laments her failure to attract male attention at college. (Which from my experience is total B.S. Is Mooney U. a seminary?)
3) Les makes an overt, shall we say prurient, play for Tiffany at “the dinner.” Tie a knot with your tongue? Really?
4) Tiff indicates Les’ ploy works as Gunther takes her home after the dinner on 6/12/2017. That strip also seems to indicate he’s NOT willing to cede the field to Les.
5) From that point through the 17th Gunther convinces Tiff (apparently) that Les is poison. She relegates Les’ calling card to the trash can.
6) On January 29, 30 and 31, 2018, Gunther again appears ready to challenge Les for Tiffany’s attention.
7) Then Les inexplicably spurns Tiffany’s overt, shall we say prurient, again, invitation to play after the confrontation with Ann Eiffel. Les seems only interested in getting “the list” from Tiff to scam his mother; that, because Tiff’s “plan” didn’t get the revenge he sought.
The only hormonal activity in this strip seems to be Al and Irma. At least thanks for that bit of reality. In fact, I wish the strip would return to Vegas and let us in on the happy honeymoon couple. (I wonder if Al has bought her a showgirl outfit yet?)
So, unless some sort of “The Graduate” awakening happens with Gunther and he drags Tiffany physically out of Les’ clutches I’m ready to call it quits between Tiffany and him. Gunther will merely be relegated to Big Brother mode trying to keep Tiff and Les apart. I wonder if it will come to blows?
This is exactly what Gunther came all the way home from Peru to prevent. Now that it’s actually happened in spite of his efforts to thwart it, it’s time for him to flee back to Lima and try to wipe the whole thing from his mind.
I wish everyone would grow up. So Gunther’s mom is on her honeymoon and enjoying it. That idiot Gunther acts as if he never acted that silly with Rosa. Tired of the arc. Move on.
When I first saw the panel with Gunth on the phone, I thought maybe Irma was calling to see how they were enjoying the furniture. Would have liked to have seen his response/answer to that!
What a bunch of dried up old prudes!!! So Irma and Al are GASP!!! having sex and enjoying it!! OH THE HORROR! Don’t be silly, most of these posts are reacting just like Gunther who can’t imagine his mother acting like a full-fledged woman, with feelings and needs, with the man who brings them out, yea Al, MY MAN!! Jesus Christ. Most of the people here are Baby Boomers, so I would think such antidivellian attitudes would not be applicable. I like Les’s attitude here, no big thing to him, he focuses on the food, but Gunther needs to focus on being happy for his mother, and detaching enough so he can find happiness with someone soon. I hope Rosa personally, although that ship has sailed probably, although now Tara could do something, and for MD, perhaps even Tiffany. But the most important thing for Gunther to do is to grow up, stop being the one co-dependent person in the mother-son relationship here, definitely Irma has, although of course she still loves her son just as much if not more.
so we have another week of events for these two to bond over. I notice that Les does not seem to have a smart phone or else he’s just not looking at it all the time like most kids their age. The only people we see using technology in this strip are Bernice, Luann, Gunther and Frank (I may have left someone out)
This arc is NOT entertaining. We get it: two odd ducks once enemies, are now connected via marriage. Woohoo – the hi-jinks! Someone wake me when the strip stops being an Odd Couple reboot.
Can’t rush romance for this newly wed couple. If Irma wants some action, Al will need time, probably have to start in the casino, keep working on it in the elevator and down the hallway. It’s like carrying the Olympic torch, don’t want the flame to go out before they get to the stadium.
Please give Gunther some assertiveness, Greg. Gunther was powered-down at home, by his Mom, Mom’s husband and NOW by someone he was forced to live with. We want to see Gunther stand up to Les and tell him “NO!” once in a while vs being bullied and voiceless. Gunther has proven to be a good person and always helping others -he deserves to be given some power.
