you’re sure playing hard-to-get, Luann (hard to get committed to your new year resolution)

It’s hump day – The middle of the week and they are still talking about exercising! Is this all we’re going to get this week. It’s like being stuck in a room with Richard Simmons!

Another throw-away week.

Honestly?

The ONLY thing these two have in common is that they both own pets. That’s ALL.

Sorry, but Luann doesn’t belong with Jack any more than Bernice does. Less, even.

I know Greg loves mixing “opposites.” But with Jack? The guy really needs a female athlete as a love interest. Someone who’s as fanatical on physical fitness as Mr. Jack is.

A formidable female athlete type would be an interesting addition to the Strip.

And “Yes,” that’s just My opinion. ;)

Or maybe a male interest would be interesting. Does Luann have any passion about anything? She seems pretty blase about school, work, working out – everything. What’s it goin to take to shake her up a bit?

I don’t know why she sat down, as it’s only encouraging him. Oh wait, it’s so we’ll get more “hilarious” exercise “jokes”, my bad.

Just to be testy, Luann will teach him how to do Kegel exercises.

There is a lot more here than I think a lot of us are perceiving. First of all, as I deliberately bated yesterday, sex is disingenuously being implicated here in ways that try, frustratingly to many, to bridge the gap between Luann’s and Bernice’s nearly preteen relationship with sex and relationships and the uncomfortable fact that they are college women, women who no matter what to paraphrase what a previous deplorable example of American politics, Spiro T. Agnew once said, should eschew the “nattering nabobs of judgmentalism” and make adult decisions and choices about romance and sexuality given their ages, and the range of choices young adults make. I mean men can make all the choices they want, and it raises few hackles, but young virginally portrayed comic woman can’t, at least in Luann. So we get the dance of the hunk and the maybe dismissive and disinterested Luann. I don’t buy it, but then I have faith that this conundrum is about to be surprisingly traversed. Take that as you will, but the stakes are being raised. Patience.

Geez, Luann, sublimate much?

Luann exercises her appetite more than her bah-dee. ;-)

Did Puddles run off? Hopefully he’s having an adventure.

Bantering between Luann and Jack? Do opposites attract ? A rendezvous in the works?

Well I did want more Luann the comic. From this conversation it sound like G&K are going to give her the “Body Positive” upgrade. Ewww

So, how is Luann not 200 lbs? I can empathize with her not wanting to work out in public but the fact that she seems to never exercise and everything makes her hungry raises questions.

Luann begin to associate Jack’s words with delicious food? Interesting! There’s something so beautiful in seeing them together, him exercising and her looking at the horizon. So reassuring and poetic♡. It would be great if Luann will join Jack.

Obviously Luann has never gotten into “Let’s Get Physical” by Olivia Newton John (and, it’s double meaning.)

Geez …. this stuff again?

Hmm. What, pray-tell is a “Tri-Tip”? I guess I can assume with the “Dip Sandwich” afterwords, that “Tri-Tip” stands for something akin to “beef tips”? Not really sure though. “Tri-Tip” has me imagining a mixture of three different “cubes” of meat perhaps…. possibly beef, chicken, and ham? I do not really know. In my neck of the woods, the phrase is not used, and the “dip” style sandwich is often something like a “Philly, Beef-and-Swiss” sort of thing.

I am not really sure of Luann’s intent by being somewhat negative about Jack’s exercising. I mean, he was engaged in the activity when she stumbled across him, so why be negative about his endeavor. I understand she does not want to exercise at the moment…. but this feels just a little bit “snarky” in a way that is odd. It is, to me, quite a bit different from the “snark” so many attribute to Bernice…. where her efforts in this regard are usually about a misconception Luann is having. Jack’s exercising is not a “misconception” for him that warrants a “snarky” response.

My best guess is that Luann is just feeling a lot of conflict inside. She has proclaimed that she and Jack are just friends. But, I think her seeing how Bernice is a bit “twitter-pated” with Jack is making Luann reassess her previous opinion of the guy. I am thinking she is “trying” to still stay in just the friend zone, but, she is starting to feel more like she is interested in Jack in a romantic way. This seems to be following a relatively common romantic comedy trope that has been used in a lot of films at the moment.

tomorrow: Luann stops at Carls’ Jr.

Huh. Jack reminds me of an aggressive male bird (Turkey? Peacock?) doing his plumage dance to impress and win a potential mate. Luann’s being polite though—he should be doing it for Bernice!

It appears (last panel) Luann is looking wide-eyed at something; it’s almost like she’s anticipating someone else showing up and is killing time w/ small talk until then.

The way she’s conflating everything with food and the fact that there’s falling innuendo everywhere keeps reminding me of that “Seinfeld” episode when George tried to combine sex with pastrami and TV:

“I’ll tell you what ya did, Caligula..”

I think this is maybe just good natured kidding around. Luann’s responses are actually kind of funny and Jack going for more and more strenuous exercises might be just to fuel the back and forth they are having. If not, he’s just a boring jock. Cute girl shows up and he keeps on exercising after she isn’t into it? Dumb move. Maybe she wanted to talk.

New Year’s resolution…exercise more…haven’t started yet. I guess G&K is writing this about me and Luann. teehee

Again, she could just walk away.

Luann has a definite Food Fetish.

I’m starting to realize that the food talk is simply Luann’s way of distracting her mind from how she is really processing Jack’s words.

I am enjoying the give and take between these two. I think Luann knows Jack is flirting/showing off and she is deflecting it in a humorous way. Jack needs to change tactics.

Luann, why are you even hanging around Jack as he exercises and good-naturedly asks you to join him, when all you have to say is variations of no, no, no?

What Luann meant to say is that “Jack’s” buns are yummy!

Bernice is definitely hot for Jack. It occurred to me that G&K may be setting her up to get preggers. Why else would they bring up the subject of Bernice’s discomfort around children, plus all the family issues. It could be a transformative story about Bernice.

She doesn’t want to show him up.
