Shannon is replacing all her "M"s with "B"s. This is suggesting that the mask is squeezing her nose, so she can’t do the nasal consonants. However, if that was the case then it would affect her “N” sounds also.
BJ and many others. I’m making up a new verb: To Jonah, which means, the unexplained disappearance of a character that should still be important to the strip.
As long as we have Shannon, until Jonah dies, gets jailed, or otherwise stripped of his parental rights, he’s someone whom we ought to see, but never do.
I know the argument, just because it’s not “on camera” doesn’t mean it “isn’t” at all. But it’s been years since Jonah was last depicted. Okay, maybe a week or so in Luann time (/s). But years for us.
We’ve never seen Shannon at home. We’ve only seen Shannon at B&T’s or Luann’s. Moreover, when B&T need a break from Shannon, it’s Luann who provides it.
Come on, G&K, enough already! Tell us what happened to Jonah!
Possible side benefit: People might tolerate the little rugrat a little more if we knew what was really going on. (As in, right now, many describe her as a “feral” child that G&T just can’t get rid of – other than shoving her off on Luann)
My rant; this is an adorable, cute, non-brat child, who is there for comedy, and whose adults, here Brad and Toni, are gently not taking her seriously, but could be looked at as encouraging her natural innocence. All of you child haters make your automatic bones by wanting to destroy (figuratively or literally) this, EGAD!! 6 or thereabouts “feral” (not, maybe hyperactive) child for being a child but she is drawn, I think, to help the hilarity, absurdity, and the underlying issues of parental neglect, and adult guilt (on Toni’s part relative to Jonah) that Shannon’s story represents. Scrooge has nothing on many of the trollish perspectives on even the innocuous appearances she makes, bah, humbug!
Simple. It is winter time. Just let her go out in that outfit and let her play with the hose. Get involved and squirt her with the hose to show her you are really into doing this. Once she’s wet, tell her that she can continue to play with the hose while you dig the hole for the pool. She will be back in the house before you can get the shovel out.
Is substituting “m’s” with “b’s” a new babytalk affectation, like “Bwad”? (And notice that she said “grotto” not “gwotto.”) (And a kid her age knows and uses the word “grotto”?)
All Brad has to do to put this idea outta that kids head is to tell her “Shannon, go stand on the porch a minute, I’ll be right there”. If it’s as cold in comics land as it is where I am, that kid will be back in the house faster than a rifle shot.
We have a pool, in FL, and I wish we didn’t. The kids used it a little when they were young, but now no one likes to swim. It is very expensive and a lot of trouble to keep the water blue.
Shannon is creative and funny. She is not doing anything wrong today. She is actually going to help Brad with the pool. She is much more likable than Calvin or Danae or Agnes or some of the commenters on here.
It seems every time Shannon is with Brad and Toni, she “gets into something”, appears in a conglomeration of stuff, or with tools, buckets, etc. Just who is watching this kid?
Maybe they live where winter temps are 65 -70. Send her outside! Tell her she has to stay there until you get the swimming pool done then go back inside and watch the game. Unfortunately, she’ll be back as soon as she snags a hole in her cute flamingo.
I had a Grandpa who really did build everything we asked for, usually from found stuff. We had a fort, a bunker, a playhouse, a pretend airplane, a pool, a swingset, and a ride that was sort of an old tire-turned-zipline to the bottom of the canyon behind our home.
Small children should be NOT be playing with snorkels. Even if they do know how to use one properly, the ball valve can get clogged by small objects floating in the water or by other kids thinking it’s funny.
I am surprised about the comments concerning Shannon. She is a kid with a great imagination and has no control over her situation. I am happy that she is not in foster care and that she has a loving family to care for her. This type of situation is common in many families. They would rather love and care for a family member, especially a child, than to see that family member being bounced around from one house to another. I have friends who have been foster parents and they provided loving homes for these children but the kids were not allowed to stay there for long and were constantly being moved around to other places that were horrible and damaging to the children. A lot of these kids were abused by their biological parents and should have been removed but where they end up could be just as bad. Shannon was not abused and yes her father could have been more responsible but I am so happy that she has a loving aunt and uncle to care for her. I am so happy that I have memories of my nephew growing up with our family while my sister was trying to establish her singing career. Our parents provided a good home for us. I just do not understand the mean hateful comments about Shannon. I was shocked and sadden.
