COOL! A family vacation! This could be a lot of fun.

So why did Bernice have to stay home? It’s a shame Toni couldn’t go.

I wonder if Badass Frank plans to wrestle any bears in the mountains? ;)

I wouldn’t go without my own true love. We’d wait for a time when we could both go—or I’d trade call with someone.

Who takes a family vacation during a major holiday season? Then again, I guess they wanted to avoid the summer rush?

Does Bernice still not get to stay with her own parents for the holidays? Well, as long as we get a break from her, I’m good.

This just isn’t age appropriate in my humble opinion. Looks like two little kids in the back seat. But Greg runs the show so , “I fold, Greg. Let’s see what you’ve got.”

Is Bernice family now? Or did I miss something. I did miss this strip for many years.

If there vaycay was to the Smoky Mountains, I would have something in common with the DeGroots cause I celebrated Thanksgiving with my family there. My guess is we’re fast-forwarding to Christmas vacation though. Honestly, this would be really fun to see for the DeGroots. I know I had a nice time.

I do kinda wonder if we’ll see what Bernice is doing on Christmas. It seems like it would be too much that she’d spend it all alone… but if the alternative is a story with her and Nil, no thanks… just leave her with Puddles. He has better people skills.

Brad has great comic hair. Funny.

It’s a fine time for Nancy to say that she hopes everyone brought their hiking boots, but I have seen people on the mountain trails wearing flimsy shoes and sandals and not carrying enough water. Where are they going? It is a good time of year to hike in Joshua Tree National Park in southern California. Unless you are a really experienced hiker and are efficient in using a map and compass, stay away from the Boy Scout trail any time of year. It’s not well marked, and you won’t find any cell phone service. Otherwise, it’s a good choice for an outdoor winter vacation. The other trails are fine.

Toni could have ask for a few days off. And Puddles taking care of Bernice not the other way around.

Is Shannon on the trip? I’m assuming she’s too short to be seen if so.

Any one here feel bad Bernice hadta stay home?

Off that, one year I’d like to pack up a tree an supplies, go up north an rent a rustic cabin then turn off the electricity, go by the light of th fireplace and candles. Set up th tree with old fashion glass balls, tinsel, an make our own garland out of string and popcorn.

Miyght not be up most folk’s alley but th Mrs. an I wanna try it one time. Prefferably a small cabin so th fireplace cn keep it kinda warm. At least above 50 at night.

Why would Brad even go without Toni? Especially with the family he so dislikes.

Frank and Nancy must have pulled some sort of emotional blackmail.

Now we just need Ann Eiffel pulling up to the family wagon on the freeway in a Ferrari.

Who would want a wet blanket like Bernice on a vacation?

They could be going to Cleveland National Forest or Salt on Sea, even to Mexico.

A road trip for the whole Degroot family!? Amazing! What a fantastic surprise! I’m sorry Puddles and Toni aren’t here, but it’s a good thing Bernice isn’t, I kinda hope she’ll use this opportunity for invite Nil into her room again. I wonder if Frank decided to take this family trip after the thrill of skydiving. Let’s hope they’ll talk a lot about his jump. Also, I would really love a classic scene with Luann and Frank (or Nancy, Brad) talking about important things, alone and in front of a campfire.

Someone has to stay home to take care of the dog.

Even EYE need a respite from Bernice, and I’m not even in the same comic strip.

Well, I’m so tired of crying, but I’m out on the road again

The seatbelts seem to be a major character in this scenario.

Bernice must happy to have the whole place to herself.

Boy how old fashion is this; a vacation with two adult children, one of whom is married. Then the fact that Bernice is not really family. Poor planning if Toni wanted to come along, and what about Shannon, she’s family. She could really terrorize the animals of the forest. And speaking of Shannon, who’s taking care of her as her dad is usually off roaming around under the premise of looking for a gig or acting roll, which don’t seem to show up. Never an arc on him actually playing in a band or being in a play/movie set.

Me thinks that Luann isn’t missing Bernice

Looking at the first panel makes me wonder where Luann got her blond hair.

Camping, At this time of year? that’s Chilling.

RUDE!!! What man would agree to go on a family vacation without his wife? And what family would expect him to go? Did she not become “family” when they married? Or does Greg consider it okay to leave a wife out of “family” activities. Brad is an incredible loser to have agreed to go, and this seems like a bad start to a bad story. G&K need to realize the DeGroot children are adults and quit trying to regress them back to grade school.

I would have loved to see Nancy’s talk with Frank about his skydiving!

My prediction for the week. Luann will meet her next boyfriend, but there will be some complications.Of course, I will probably be completely wrong.

When the Strip was just about Luann, her Mom and Dad and her brother, Brad.

Interesting, that the fam didn’t invite Bernice to come along.

So, will We finish out the year focusing on the madcap misadventures of the DeGroot family?

Or peek at Bernice being “home alone” and deciding maybe she should invite Jack, Nil or Piro over for egg nog?

I don’t know. If Bernice isn’t family enough to be dragged to the mountains, not sure why she’s still living in their house. And she isn’t being charged rent either, right?

Brad goes on vacation with his parents ?? When is he going to grow up ?

If I was Brad, I wouldn’t go on a trip without my spouse.

You realize you could have done an entire week on the discussion between Toni and Brad on whether he should go with the family or stay home with her, don’t you?

I don’t know any young adults who want to go on a vacation with their parents. Maybe when they are in their 30’s and have kids they would enjoy a family vacation.

Has Luann come out of the closet yet?

And after the skydiving letdown …. let’s get out of town.

Today, the role of “clunky exposition deliverer” will be played by Nancy Degroot.

Firefighters stay at the firehouse when they’re on duty. They eat and sleep there. Brad would be home alone for the entire time. Why don’t people even try to look at things from all sides?

Possible scenario;

Tony insists Brad go, Brad says “No honey, I can’t go if you aren’t there. It wouldn’t be right.” After some discussion Toni convinces Brad to go and everyone who wasn’t there for the discussion condemns Brad

“No. I rejoice she is happy.”

Is this the new badass Luann? Or did she disappear down the memory hole already?

Didn’t Bernice have a family right there in Pittsville? Or has she been exiled from them?

Doesn’t Jonah need a full-time babysitter for that little brat during this busy holiday performance season?

Has (weekday) Frank decided to forego the annual fiasco of hanging up the Christmas lights?

So many questions …

I love how Luann is such a boring person that she can’t imagine Bernice doing anything while she has full run of the house.

“Hmmm, maybe she’ll invite Nil over? Naahh, she’s just gonna stare off into space for 3 full days, just like I would!”

I hate the word “vacay.”

My sister and I took road trips with my parents occasionally when we became adults. They were fun.

maybe Frank will talk about his skydiving experience; I would like to hear it from him (not Luann’s paraphrased version). And having Bernice at home is convenient for all of them because she can take look after the house and take care of Puddles while they’re gone.

I get the feeling that the image of Bern is kind of what Luann wishes she could be doing.

So who’s watching Shannon if Toni is working?

No Shannon? Or only Degroot family members?

Why does it appear that Brae, and, Luann, feel that Bernice and Toni got the better end of this deal?

I hope they are going to Yosemite National Park or Lake Tahoe

Frank would be aware of several entirely different songs entitled On The Road Again. One by the Lovin’ Spoonful, one by Canned Heat, and then the obvious one (known to some as being a bit out of meter). I’d like to think that Frank opted for one of the first two.

Family vaccay “on the road”? What could possibly go wrong?

Let me restate that. Did one of these family road trip vacations ever end well? —Not in my experience, I’d say….
