(Raising hand) Ahm… if the Cave Men can’t understand what Homer said… How did they devise this plan as a group? How did they work together? How are they understanding what the results of the Amazons are doing? And… why is it they haven’t died off? I mean… how do you pass on the gene of ignorance from one generation to another… when it is females who educate the children in the first five years of their life? You would have to have females who are nothing but carrots for brains.
An interesting note from this age old debate: A female chess champion was complaining that the Women’s World Chess Championship didn’t get the same media attention as what she called the “Men’s Championship”; and failed to see the irony.
I see Wiley’s strip as metaphor for how the two tribes would respond in a natural disaster.
One tribe inclusive – forward thinking and not afraid of trying something new. A people that are continually developing, not always making the best decision, however, consistently moving forward. I will use (D) for them.
The other people are stuck in the past, prizing ignorance and stupidity over science and progress – an antediluvian assemblage of primitives. I will use (R) for them.
The D fellowship picked a wise, older leader – one who had spent a lifetime learning how to govern and tried to make life a little better for the people.
The R coterie picked a flamboyant, but more primitive leader – a person who valued increasing his power/wealth at the expense of others and required the total fealty of his followers.
When a virus imperiled the world, Is it any wonder that the D’s made the hard choices – choices that required the collective to work together for the common good.
The R’s clung to comforting propaganda. The leader of the *R*’s did not have the mental acuity to conceive of any other face-saving alternative that would keep him in power. The virus only cared about opportunity, and the opportunity to spread and thrive was among the R’s.
Still like the arc. Takes the mind away from the current political blood letting that’s a constant in the news. And from my despair at seeing the effects of both Covid-19 and the self-destructive post-election behavior of some Americans. I offer prayers for both.
Many early tribal societies were matriarchal, it’s when we got civilized that they all became patriarchal. Conclusion: civilization was a terrible tragic mistake.

The trouble with being smarter than your enemy is that you tend to underestimate them. That always ends badly.

Why isn’t the mastodon panicking from the fire?

The R’s were wiped out as a relevant tribe.
Thus end the metaphor.

If women were that smart, they would just keep a few men for breeding and eat the rest.
