In about 1965 I was in my car listening to a top 40 station. When “Who Wrote the Book of Love?,” the oldie of the hour ended, the disk jockey said, “If you want to know, it was a guy named Ovid.” Jim Washburn was his name, KYA in San Francisco. There may be a Bay Area tradition. Dave Flemming, the number two announcer on Giants radio broadcasts was a classics major at Stanford. I’ve never heard him quote anything though.
