Goat: What are you watching? Rat: Anthony Bourdain. The guy travels to all these places where he just drinks, smokes, swears, and hates idiots. Goat: Is that annoying? Rat: Annoying? He's living the dream!! Goat: You have odd role models. Rat: The man's a @#*@#* superhero!

You do realize, Rat, that if the guy ever met you, he’d hate you because you’re an idiot?

I will admit to having heard of the Anthony Bourdain, barely; but thankfully I have never seen him on telly, not having cable/dish (which I assume is where he does his cussing and whatever else it is that people find fascinating). I think I am one with Goat today. That guy is not my idea of a superhero, Rat!

why watch it on TV I see it everyday at home?
edgeways over 11 years ago
I would say Bourdain is actually worth watching one or twice before making up your mind about what you think of him. I understand why some people don’t care for his show, but it does have a lot more going for it then most food/travel shows.

The quality of cynical disdain is much undervalued in the “La-la-la” world in which we live….

Bourdain is an honest everyday guy lucky enough to get paid to travel, eat, drink and meet people. Not to mention he used to work as a chef and wrote books about food preparation. He looks like he’s having the time of his life working in his show.So I understand Rat..

Bourdain became famous for his book “Kitchen Confidential” which described his learning to be a chef and what REALLY goes on in restaurant kitchens. He gave many gems of advice such as “never order fish on a Monday” (it’s last weeks leftovers as the fresh order hasn’t come in yet) and “skip the seafood fritatta” at Sunday brunch (it is SERIOUS leftover seafood and other ingredients from the week, read everything in it has been in the restaurant for days). It’s a great book although it may kill your desire to eat out for a while…

Bourdain is annoying and un-watchable just like P. Morgan.Stopped watching CNN because of all of the political hack talking heads they have on.Get my news from the Daily Show instead

Hey Steph, You’re aiming too high! Most of the first 24 comments missed the joke entirely. That makes it doubly hilarious.

Love Tony, love Rat!
His No Reservations episode in Beirut when the war in 2006 (?) started was a phenomenal piece of journalism, even though he was just there to shoot his food & travel show. He did a sequel several years later to go back & revisit the places he had planned to go before the bombing started.
Put most of today’s faux journalists to shame, and he’s just a chef who’s a great storyteller.
I get that he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he approaches the world in a very similar way to Jon. He started on the Food Channel & he wouldn’t play by their rules, so he moved to the Travel Channel. Thus his deep disdain for Rachael Ray & Paula Dean.

Isn’t he the one who’s bleeps are so often that the show sounds like Morse Code practice?

I like Anthony Bourdain. He is brutally honest, and gets a kick out of weird. He doesn’t mind getting dirty, and will try almost anything. The episode with Ted Nugent was especially good. The two of them were 180 degrees apart from each other politically, but got along great. Card carrying Ultra-Lib Tony had a ball shooting one of Uncle Ted’s machine guns, which was hilarious.

Andy Capp is another example… Although he gave up smoking.
Pottymouth Rat is back on the scene after yesterday when Pig took over Rat’s habits.

Rat rules: he says what he feels. It doesn’t make it right, it makes him honest.
mackenzie0158 over 11 years ago
I’m not surprised that Anthony Bourdain is Rat’s hero. They’re both self-centered, mean spirited and insufferably arrogant. At least the egotistical Bourdain is a talented writer. Even his mystery novels are good. I met Bourdain once at a book signing at the old Cody’s on Telegraph in Berkeley. He behaved like a spoiled brat.

Yeah, he has a job that we all lust after!

Before he had all this TV work, he was quite well known for his book, Kitchen Confidential, which I had to stop reading because I couldn’t stand his attitude.

…you haven’t missed a thing, itisme…watched him once…a waste of time, IMO…didn’t finish the show…he was rude, crude, profane, seemed really “full of himself”…extremely annoying…rat can have him…

Try watching the Brit TV series ‘An Idiot Abroad’. Ignore Ricky Gervais, he’s an idiot, but the rest is absolutely wonderful.
