In medical terms, this would be ‘hyp replacement’.

Funny story, I used to think the E at the end of hyperbole was silent until recently, so I would always say it was HI-per-bull instead of hi-PER-bull-ee.

I hate how inconsistent the English language is.

Okay, so I exaggerated for dramatic effect. Sue me. Actually, don’t. That’s a very silly thing to sue someone for. You’ll make yourself look like an unstable hothead.

wow Marigold was always the one coming up with fancy and complex words.

I think she knows what this one means and is just making fun of it.

Hahaha you’re right Marigold it does sound like an alien language word.

I remember the first guy who introduced me to the word hyperbole.

He and I were not really great friends in a short time.

He was 35 and acted rather like an 18 or 17 year old hothead

This strip reminds me of a Dilbert Sunday strip in which office workers use colorful language, like “dodged a bullet” & “fall on my sword”, in an attempt to make their jobs sound less boring.

I’m impressed that Phoebe knew all of thoze words. Especially hydrangea, which required not just knowing the word, but recognizing the bush. I don’t think I would recognize a hydrangea just from seeing it.

Those dranga plants are really friendly. You have to say “Hi” to them.

Do we have hypobole? Where we dramatically understate something?

If you like this strip, you might like Polar Bear Café! (if you read Japanese, it’s a little weird translated to English)

Hmmm, maybe school tests should be like this! How many kids would be able to name a hydrangea? You get an A, 100%, Phoebe!
