Haven’t heard much exploration of how the increased expectation over the last few decades of concealed carry heightens police reactions.
Did hear some social science which provided evidence that carrying a firearm changes human behavior, increasing aggression towards others, up to and including involving the firearm. Simply put, the simple act of having a firearm can lead people to escalate a tense situation, even over something as silly as a parking space.
Yeah, guns would have kept that truck from… something. Oh, if only I had more information, so I’d know how someone with a gun would have magically prevented this tragedy.
Ooh, ooh, does this mean we can look forward to gunpowder-sniffers collapsing in puddles of hilarity over a new round of “hey dude it’s time fer truck control haw haw haw”? Can’t wait. It’s their only joke.
This cartoon is pretty much the current reality in the US with more guns than people (yes I know only 1/3 actually own guns … almost 4 each, go figure). What I can’t understand is with so many American tourists around the world, how do they cope without their guns? Why is it that they feel safe without a gun travelling in a strange country but require weapons while at home? Or is it that the gun owners never leave?
The Orlando incident would not have happenned if the perp had reason to believe even 1/10 of those there had guns. Even Sandy Hook would not have happenned if the perp expected tp have books thrown at his head and to be rushed by people with desks who would kick the shit out of him. People need to take responsibility for their own safety. Sandy Hook is a monument to the Liberal mentality. What idiot would think you can hide under a desk ? The culprit there was the NEA/ABA – it’s better in their minds for your kid to get shot than they get sued and forced ot admit their redponsibility. Have you read about the kid who defended himself against a bully trying to kick in his skull ? He got suspended !!! We need to recognize these “codes of conduct” are an unlawful form of creed discrimination and jail and take away the pensions of those school administrors (the Commisars of the New World Order) who promote this garbage. As long as the Police are under funded and have to be afraid of being sued, along with people embracing the cowardace to “not get involved”, the violence will continue…..
You need a license for open carry of handguns in Texas, and only then in a belt or shoulder holster. It’s also permitted with a license in 15 other states – including Ohio, where the Republican Convention will be held next week – although requirements vary. Open carry without a license is permitted in 26 states.
When I was 12 Heinlein seemed like a wise old man. By the time I was 18 I understood that he was a writer of fiction and that his opinions should be treated as such… sometimes pretty good, usually oversimplified but always entertaining.
Since we’re quoting Heinlein, let’s get some context for that quote:
‘Well, in the first place an armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life. For me, politeness is a sine qua non of civilization. That’s a personal evaluation only. But gunfighting has a strong biological use. We do not have enough things to kill off the weak and the stupid these days. But to stay alive as an armed citizen a man has to be either quick with his wits or with his hands, preferably both. It’s a good thing.’
That’s the fullest version on Wikiquote. I haven’t verified it; it’s from a story that I haven’t read. But it sounds like Heinlein, especially the contempt for the weak and stupid. The guy was basically a fascist posing as an anarchist.

That´s why an armed society is a polite society, you better behave yourself or pay the price.
That´s paraphrasing some famous quote.
