This is about the dumbest thing Arlo has ever done. In one swoop he has lost every brownie point he has ever had or ever will have. Another sentence like that will leave him to experience duel stories first hand. I don’t thing anyone wants to hear stories involving a spouse and their ex

You don’t share all that many stories from your previous marriage. It threatens the current spouse’s comfort with your current commitment. — Works both ways.

Relishing a memory of a life lived together is a very good thing.

I don’t have any memories with my first wife that I want to share with my current wife or anyone else for that matter.

I spent 3 years in Alaska, the last two with my 1st wife. I’m not going to bury that set of stories. The trick is in how you couch them. Unless someone wants more details, I just keep it to ‘I’. But trust me Arlo, it’s not that big a deal.

My father said to a waitress once, “You look like my third wife.” She asked, “You’ve been married three times?” He replied, “No, just twice.”

This brief set of panels had me think of Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner. :(

You would like a second set of stories, Arlo? So would I. How about getting in touch with “the kids”, again?

Sometimes I can see the appeal of that! Especially when my husband tells the same stories over and over and over and over – if I try to cut it off by saying, “Yes, I remember that story! You guys then….”, doesn’t even slow him down, he just keeps on going, and going and going.

Hmm, I get along fine with my ex but would not be telling tales of our life together with my husband.

If you want to find out, just introduce Janis as “my first wife”…

Arlo needs to get out and take a long walk. Janis will let this pass but it will take some time for her to process it. FYI.

She didn’t find him at the library. Dumb is what dumb does.

A good example of a “Saturday comic.” I have long maintained that cartoonists save their lamest material for Saturday, which probably draws the fewest readers all week.

It sounded to me like they enjoyed starting their marriage and Arlo wondered what might happen if they took their vows again.

Ergo, a “second marriage”, the two of them, with a different perspective or view on life. Kinda romantic, I think……

Maybe Arlo needs to see the Saturday Night Live sketch “Meet Your Second Wife” (?v=MJEAGd1bQuc) for some perspective. ;)

The question is innocent enough, but is it enough for Janis? Tell him to go on line to read them.

The could do like my wife and I did; get divorced, then reconcile and get remarried.

Arlo doesn’t mean stories about another spouse, just another life. I have plenty of stories that do not involve my husband.

Or they could wait a few more years when memory loss sets in and the husband forgets most of what he told the wife.

My first two marriages were a bust. However, the third time is 33 years going strong with two great grown-up kids. I don’t share stories about them either. :-)
