Hmmm, I’m generally not afraid of snakes. However, the very large invasive anacondas in Florida do give me pause. It’s a creature that may not go by the “If you leave it alone, it won’t bother you” rule.
I had a place that was 20-50 minutes away from most things. 20 minutes for groceries and bad food, 50 for a brewpub and good food. Also, Lowe’s, Wilco, a plant nursery, etc.
That “it’s ONLY half an hour to everything” ain’t as convenient as it sounds. My vacation/retirement house is 24 miles from any/everything…roughly 1/2 hour. But if you forget something, or the spouse calls and adds something to the list, that 1/2 hour drive IN, however long it takes to accomplish the errands, eat something while you’re there, dealing with traffic while you’re there, and 1/2 hour drive back…..turns into a 4 hour (or more) run into town! For an 8 hour day, that’s HALF (or more) your day gone! ONLY is a 4-letter word! Careful what you wish for!!
I had a house 16 miles from town. My wife drove our van 15 years before I had to put a battery or exhaust system on it. Long enough to charge, and the long drive blew all the water out of the exhaust system so it didn’t rust.
He probably has a rather elaborate plan. Maybe he takes the house and lets them have one in town. Maybe he gives the country house to the kids and A&J take one in town. Sometimes it takes someone else making decisions to get you going. I came home from class once in college and all my stuff was gone from my apartment. My roommate was really bad about not paying bills and it wasn’t uncommon for us to get an eviction notice. Since I worked for the rental agency and was the one that did the evictions and didn’t remember hauling my stuff to storage, I quickly determined it wasn’t that. Then my next door neighbors came over and said hey, when you coming home. They had moved me while I was in class. He needed a roommate and I needed a more responsible roommate. It was a good decision but one I would not have made for myself.
Beauty is in the eyes of then beholder! Gus may like it but I sure wouldn’t. 30 minutes to grocery store, restaurants, doctors , etc. would hold no appeal to me!
Why do y’all think there is a house on this property? The sign with SOLD on it make me think this this is an empty lot. Grass as high as the sigh, lot outline on the sign. Need a house plan, builder, permits……
We can – in theory – walk to a supermarket (and did so after Hurricane Sandy).
We have a bus stop across the street with a matching stop in other direction on corner on our side. But they stopped running buses here a decade or so ago and just the sign is left. It would take us about 10 or 15minutes to get to the train station with same (to commute to NYC for work).
I recently put in for directions to get to that train station by bus, just out of curiosity. I was told to take the bus on our cross road to the bus depot west of us. I would change there to another bus and take that to a different train station and then take a train from there to the station I had listed – 45 minutes. And if I was ending up at the other train station along the way – why wouldn’t I take a train from there instead of taking the train to the first station?
And this is a busy suburban area – I hate to think what it would be like in a more rural area.

Wow, now comes the feeling of obligation.

I have a feeling that this house is going to be either spectacular or awful. But I can’t imagine Gus would show them something awful.

This is not Gus’s first rodeo, it might turn out to be something special.

So did he buy it to flip it? Is he going to sell it for what he bought it for?

Maybe this strip will turn into something like Green Acres, Ludwig could take the place of Arnold.

I don’t want to drive 30 minutes to every place I go. That would get old pretty fast. The grocery store, the doctor, the library.

Of all of the supporting characters in this strip over the years, the Bonitos (Gus, Mary Lou & Meg) are my favorites.
