He’s got a point, of course. And it’s not just Halloween. What about Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving? Not to mention dark grey Saturday and pretty doggone dim Sunday? And don’t get me started on Christmas. How long has it been since you’ve seen any mention of Christ in Christmas, aside from in churches?

Let’s hope Arlo says the same for Christmas, which is even MORE commercialized!

So? It’s one of simplest ways to carve Ol’ Jack and traditional.

I worked as a truck driver for Toys R Us for 10 years. Most of the year, it was a decent little job. But starting September first, we were busy hauling Halloween stuff to the stores. That would be done by October first, when we started running Christmas stuff to the stores. From then until January first, we were busy every day, using all the time we legally had available. It is truly a monument to consumerism.

Wouldn’t that pumpkin have rotted away after 30 years?? ’<)

I’ll be glad when it’s over.

Mine changes every year. I carve faces and the kids immediately know who it is. Abe Lincoln was the easiest to figure out.

Commercialism has turned Fall into one long holiday season. From the day after Labor Day until the last day of the year, it’s HallowThanksChrisHanuKwanz season. So have a Happy Merry Holly Jolly HallowThanksChrisHanuKwanz.

Da’Dad, That’s what tradition is about. Duh?

I stopped this when my son lost interest back in 2000 or so.

No surprise there. Our entire society is profit driven.

Halloween is the evening before All Saints Day (All Hallows Eve). It is part of the Christian calendar.

Sometimes it’s difficult to differentiate between tradition and force of habit. ;→

And singers have been singing “Nessun Dorma” for 98 years. Some things never grow old.

Okay. So what’s your point Janis? I don’t do “Halloween” anymore, but every year I buy a lovely pumpkin for my porch to celebrate autumn. By not carving a face, it usually lasts 9-10 months before having to put it in the compost bin.

Once you have achieved perfection, anything less is just headed downhill. That is why I so cleverly avoid perfection and I might add I do a very good job of doing a bad job.

You can’t go wrong with the classics. Nowadays, so many people are doing “carvings” that almost look 3D. Yes, they look cool, but, I’m a traditionalist, and when I carved ours, as a kid, other than maybe, fangs, and more almond-shaped eyes, it was all the regular way.

This is precisely what „tradition“ means. Why the Face, Janis?

Actually it started in July at my local Joann’s
