Oh, poor Goldie! She’s so scared… The first few times I ran the vacuum after Raven came to live with us, I put him in the other room and closed the door so that the scary noise would be somewhere else. He still doesn’t like it and puts himself in the other room when the vacuum comes out.

Somewhat OT: I don’t want to add more pressure to Georgia’s life – she does so much! – but assuming that there actually is a 2021 and 2020 finally ends, and not in fire, I wonder if there will be a 2021 BCN calendar? With so much crazy and stress going on this year, I would totally understand if there won’t be. But I can hope.

This one made me laugh out loud, and it’s been a long time since I’ve done that. I have the sound turned off on my computer, so I hope that means the sweet BCN kitties didn’t hear me laughing at them. I know that cats are deeply offended when you laugh at them. But I can’t help it! That last panel…bwahahahahaha!

When I vacuum downstairs, all my cat’s are upstairs. But, when I vacuum upstairs they know what’s coming. All I have to do is to start putting their toys up, shaking out their cardboard scratcher, then they scatter to safety downstairs. So, they don’t get the sound to be frightened.

Goldie has been inside how long now? The woman vacuums as infrequently as I do (so as not to upset the cats – we’re courteous that way).

My big boy is not afraid of the vacuum – he grew up around big mowers at the park. The others have gotten better – not sure if it is watching him or their hearing is going.

Outdoor cats have to deal with the massive garbage truck demon. My cat had to wear a “cone” collar because of a minor injury, so I was walking him in a quiet suburban area on a leash, for a change. A garbage truck came over the hill 20 yards away. My cat leaped toward the bushes so hard, I thought he was going to dislocate my shoulder. Fortunately, the 20-year-old leather leash broke. The garbage truck passed. A minute later my cat came out of the bushes and we resumed our walk, without a leash.

    Today is:

National Airborne Day —This is the day in 1940 on which members of the Army Parachute Test Platoon committed an unnatural act by jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft in flight. This day commemorates that heroic act, and all those who followed. The rest is history.

National Roller Coaster Day —For those looking for an unnatural act that isn’t quite so risky as jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft.

National Bratwurst Day —Do not eat bratwurst before committing either of the above unnatural acts. Sometimes what goes down must come up.

National Rum Day —Do not drink rum before committing either of the above unnatural acts. (No, eating bratwurst is not an unnatural act. but the same caveat applies.) There are two alcoholic beverages that can be truly called American: rum and rye whiskey. Both were invented and brought to perfection here. Rum, if you believe the play 1776, was instrumental in the founding of the US. Sadly, rye fell out of favor with the very unnatural act of Prohibition. It is now recovering, and there are many fine examples to sample today—a natural act I can recommend. Did you know that George Washington distilled rye whiskey?

National Tell a Joke Day —I’m done. If you want more, see SUNDAY FUNDAY.

Today, the teacher I work with came over and built a porch and steps for the side door into the guest room. Now I can come in by that door instead of the front door, kick off my shoes as I come in, and head straight down the hall to shower off the school virus. I don’t have to walk past the kids room at all until after I have disinfected and the kids stay in their rooms with the door shut until after I’ve had a shower. I want overkill when it comes to the virus.
