People in love don’t spend their time being coy and evasive. Hey I love love and weddings, but these two don’t seem ready yet. Toni acts out of duty, doing what she thinks she is supposed to do, but where is her soul? Brad is a nice guy, but spends most of his time anticipating Toni’s next move, including a once or future proposal. Yes, Toni is a hot babe, but Brad you need to be your own man! I think he will turn her down saying they are not ready.

It’s for real. Me and about a hundred others called it. Hey, she just took a year to answer. No need to hurry. Not in the Luann universe anyway.

Ask if she is serious! If she is then say YES, stupid!!!!!

Obviously, seeing Dirk with a family brought about a change of thought.

Toni was always not ready / always had cold feet. Now that the chips are down, will Brad get cold feet?

Like I said a couple days ago, if Luann is about 17, how old are Brad / Toni? About 22 – 23? Most kids delay marriage nowadays until they’re late 20’s / early 30’s.

I think that giving Dirk the benefit of the doubt, he’s changed and is now happily married. He’s over Toni. Now Toni realizes it’s her time for marriage, and who’s a better, stable guy than Brad? Certainly not TJ?!?!?

As I stated in the Blog, it’s time. They are at that stage of their relationship that they need to either fish or cut bait. If they don’t take it to the next level soon, it is inevitable that one or the other of them will begin to lose interest and move on.

The reappearance of Dirk metaphorically gave Toni a quick kick to the seat of her pants. It’s time to get on with your life, girl.

Which is why I quit reading it some time ago. The stories used to be quite interesting and fun, but then it essentially became little more than page after page after page of supernatural beings making out hot and heavy. It got boring after awhile.

I think Toni’s serious. I don’t believe she’d fake a proposal after Brad’s came up so empty last year…that would be cruel, especially for her. What would be gained?

Also, I don’t think she’s looking at her encounter with Dirk and his wife necessarily as an alarm-clock moment. It could be that seeing Dirk domesticated took him off the top of the list of potential threats to her happiness (although she definitely took note that HE seemed happy).

This would make an excellent spinoff strip. If only it were economically feasible to start a new strip these days.“Brad, Tony and the Brat”.

Note the difference between this scene and the scene from last year.

Last year, they were on opposite sides of the table. This year, they are side by side on the same table side.

Last year, Toni had her normal look on her face. Nothing particularly romantic. This year, especially in the last panel, she’s got that soft almost smile that women get when they are about to bare their souls.

Toni is just on the rebound from seeing Dirk the Jerk married with a kid. Even if they do get Married they will have to adopt Shannon because Brad will never get any off Toni.He’s never even got any to be able to stop getting it after they get Married

It looks like you and I are in agreement. Talking about Toni’s “biological clock” really doesn’t make much sense as you pointed out. I would peg her somewhere between 21 and 25, with 23 being the most likely age. That pretty much agrees with your assessment.

The heck with this story! Last year I told my girlfriend of 4 yrs about Brad asking Toni to marry him and if she said no that he would say April fool! After I told her the story I (like a idiot) playfully proposed.then said April fool’s right after. A week of cold shoulders and hearing her tell her friends in tears of what a jerk I was ensued. A question:

Here is last Friday’s strip:At the time, nearly all of us assumed that Toni was thanking Brad for saying “no” to Luann, but is it possible that Toni was actually thanking Brad for saying “sure” to her about the dinner?

I just noticed something else about the difference between last year and this year. Last year, they had just finished their dinner. This year, they’ve barely started their meal. Their silverware is still rolled up on the table. They’ve only gotten as far as getting their drink order and their complementary serving of bread.

Toni’s not the least bit anxious, is she? Oh no, not her!:-)

just because Brooke is an excellent draftsman /artist of the female form doesn’t mean he isn’t still a dirty old man. Sex has become so pervasive in his strip that it overpowers much else of any point he tries to make. a pity.

^^I agree, 9 Chickweed used to be my fave strip (Now it’s Luann, of course), but, Brooke has become obsessed with kissing arcs, 3 out of 4 strips have some couple lusting out on each other, no matter where they are (The 4th strip usually features that stupid cat and really sucks!); and Pibgorn used to be a love story, now it should be renamed Pigporn (Makes you wonder if Brooke’s wife has become frigid, or something)

Hmmmm…Who gives the bride away? I’ve never seen either of her parents here, so I guess it’s down between T.J. and the Dirkster (chortle, chortle).^^Toni’s parents were both killed in a car crash, she and her Brother were raised by an Aunt who really didn’t care for them. My guess is that the wedding (If it happens) will be held at the fire hall, and the Captain will take the “Father of the Bride” role.

There is another possible implication of the biological clock. It doesn’t only apply to worrying about running out of time. It can also tick when you realize it’s no longer too soon.

Aww, Well it is our anniversary today. Ya. We got married on April Fools day :) Twas the day we first met too…
