I don’t feel Cars 2 quite made it to the instant classical level, It should definitely go into the vault thougth.

Basic math – pay outrageous money to see a movie and have a snack or wait a few months and it will be on cable for free.

It’s gotten to where it’s cheaper to buy the DVD than bother with the movies…

There have been, perhaps, ten movies worth seeing in the theater in the last ten years. As for the rest, get them on Blu-Ray or else wait for them on PPV for a third the cost and watch them in your own home theater for $5 with no cell phones, brats, rude talkers, stinky people and no heaven-knows-what stuck to your seat and shoes. My popcorn tastes better and is only about 0.05 a bag, a soda is about 0.23 and Raisinettes are 0.98 in the grocery store; compared to $12 for the ticket, $5 for the popcorn, $3 for a soda and $3 for the Raisinettes, with all the aggravation of a theater filled with human beings who were never spanked as children. Better yet, I can pause the PPV or DVD if I have to go to the bathroom from too much soda and sugar – and my bathroom is CLEAN, not something that looks and smells like a third world toxic waste site covered with graffiti extolling pederasty, bestiality and the charms and specialties of a lady named Honey Luvsit and a man named Big Ben.

Stinky people who have never been been spanked.!..Great post, hawgowar! Anyway, I thought the 3-D version of Avatar was worth going to see at the theater….And come on, A nice dinner, movie, a couple cocktails after….It can be kinda cool….Just be ready to “People Watch” as my mom would say….Seriously, if you pay attention, there are some “interesting” people barging around out there…..

We go to the Sat morn matinee $5..I too not sure if I’m going to Star Trek. The time line concept seems really flawed to me. .Iron Man 3 looks good and definitely gong to 42 this weekend.

I am the same way: can’t seem to sit through an entire movie. I pause it, get up, walk around, water the plants, then come back. I wonder about my attention span lately – it seems to be lessening.

My honey and I go to the occasional movie, usually the ones he wants to see. We wait until mine come out on dvd. We never get snacks when we go.

I use VUDU. Usually for $3.00 for a first run movie. Get in my jamies, glass of wine, some snacks(not much of a popcorn guy) cuddle up with the wife on the couch and enjoy. And, I don’t have to drive home.

The last movie we saw in a theater was The Godfather (Part 1). Yet we’ve managed to see every show we’ve wanted to see.

I only go to see IMax 3D movies, other than that Blue Ray on a good sized HD TV with a sound system is pretty much as good as a regular theater now days.

Has it really been 15 years since Good Will Hunting? Last movie I saw in the theater: took my daughter to see The Hobbit (part 1) in 3D IMAX, great flick but not sure it was worth $30. For the most part, I prefer to wait for the new releases to come to my living room.

A couple of times a year I drive one hour each way to the drive-in. Two features for less than the night time price of one, and if you have to go to bathroom you can listen to the audio on an FM radio.

Not all of us in 70s park on the couch, last week in Dubuque saw Tommy Lee Jones in “Emperor”, new noir film about MacArthur, Gen. Teller, and Hirohito. No popcorn. But also love Netflix and YouTube films as well. What riches!

I can’t justify watching movies (most of the time) in the theater, when I’ve got a large flat screen TV, comfy, leather recliner couch, better (and cheaper) snacks, control over the pause button and a clean restroom! Not to forget, no random cell phones going off, people that just need to tweet everything or crying babies!

…last movie i saw in the theatre was LOTR part 1 – went on a sunday night, last show, so i could watch it in peace. counted 13 people in theatre – throughout the movie, cell phones went off 5 tmes!!! and, in an almost empty theatre, 2 women came in just before showtime, sat 2 rows behind me, and talked about the movie and everything else the entire time. Never went back to the theatre. Don’t even watch movies at home very often anymore, either. Books are much more interesting.

I can’t watch movies in a theater anymore. I’m afraid someone will start talking on a cell phone, and I’ll end up as breaking news.

you’d think by all of you that no one goes to the movie theater anymore but we go about 2x a month and its always crowded. We mainly go to family type movies like Disney/Pixar etc. We have theaters nearby that charge only $5 for the matinee, plus a $2 theater where they play older movies that are about to be released to DVD. My daughter loves to get popcorn so every once in a while we’ll splurge on that or she will pay for her own. Its a fun outing with the kids, esp in the winter.

What theaters do you people go to? The ones I attend are clean, I don’t buy snacks, and even big-screen TVs don’t match having the area of view. Plan on having a good time and you will

We need a projector which just projects into the eye, no wasted energy, total viewing area possible, inherent 3D capability, not bothering others, visible in any position, adjustible to visual acuity and astigmatism.Should be better than spectacles, err glasses even for regular vision.Weight less than an ounce..Get cracking

We go to a mid-week matinee almost every week; then an early-bird dinner after. The price is $6 each, we smuggle in fruit and cheese, there’s 8 – 10 people in the theater and the restrooms haven’t had a chance to get disgusting yet. We also have season tix to a couple local live theater groups.

Why buy when Redbox is there – also agree with the talking crowd, screaming children, etc. Plus, what movies will really survive the test of time as opposed to the celebrity of the minute. I saw “Night of the Hunter” with very young Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters many years ago. It was on AMC a few weeks ago. They don’t make that kind of movie anymore.

Some movies need to be seen on a large screen. In Japan we have Ladies’ Day where tickets are half price for women, and other discount days. And when I go, I do the whole thing: Drink, popcorn – it is a special occasion. Of course, I am only paying for myself.
