Transcript:
Dad: "Good morning! Boy, I sure didn't sleep much. Too excited about today!" Luann: "Today? What's today?" Dad: "You kidder! Like you haven't been planning for weeks! It's parents' day! I can't wait to open all my cards and gifts!" Dad: "So when do the festivities begin? Are the gifts piled in the living room?" Luann: "Does a parent making wisecracks deserve gifts?" Mom: "No, only the one making an omelet"

You’ve already got Father’s Day and your birthday, how many more days do you need?
ILuvLu over 11 years ago
I think this is satire about all the special days meant to make us feel guilty about not doing something (read that “spend money”) on others.

That’s something you never used to see, Luann awake and fully dressed, before her parents, on a weekend.

I don’t intend this to be controversial (in terms of shoving things in people’s faces, as some would feel about it), but I find it interesting that the Bible says that when we give, it shouldn’t be under compulsion, but willingly…. ==It’s good to show our loved ones care, not always in “elaborate” gifts (in a relative manner of speaking), but in the things that really matter to them… to show them love and care each day… it’s better to show them for many days through the year, than to give a material gift on the one “compulsory” day, almost seeming to have been “arbitrarily decided upon”….

Reminds me of the diamond commercials (pick a company)… One actually makes the statement that if you don’t buy them a diamond from their company, then you don’t “really” love that person… LOL!!!

Parent’s day was actually started in 1994….

Brought to you, by…Hammond Eggs… " Hammond Eggs are the stars of the egg world… anything else is not at all what they’re ‘cracked’ up to be…"

Luann is getting no sympathy from Nancy. But seriously; “Parents’ Day”? Which greeting card company invented this ripoff?
JayBluE over 11 years ago
“Hammond B3 eggs?”^Sounds like ‘music’ to my ears! (or looks like music to my eyes, I guess….)==
“they have to be a “Whiter Shade of Pale” "^That’s when Frank wishes someone from his ‘Harum’ would cook it! ==(General Note Reference Disclaimer: Harum purposely misspelled)

Hype it may be, but it’s sad that Luann didn’t even know it was a holiday, much less one where her parents might just kind of wonder if she’d so much as say “Happy Parents’ Day, folks.” I think it’s fine that Frank’s making something out of it. Maybe next year she’ll at least give them a smile and a “thanks for being my parents.”

It IS Parent’s Day. Bill Clinton signed the Congressional Resolution in 1994. Look it up.

Why do we need a parent’s day when we already have mother’s day and father’s day?

National Parents Day
When : Fourth Sunday in July
National Parents Day is a special day to honor your mother and father. And, its a time to celebrate the family structure and family values. The family unit is an important structure for the health of children, and the nation. That structure, and those values, are established and nurtured by your parents.Today is not a day of gift giving. That’s for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. The best way to mark this day is by spending time with your parents doing something fun. Its also important that you let them how how much they are loved and appreciated.
Okay, kids everywhere……. its National Parents Day. Go out and honor mom and dad!
The Origin of National Parents Day:Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. Most likely, this sweet day was created by chocolate confectioners.
In 1994, President William (Bill) Clinton proclaimed the fourth Sunday in July as National Parents Day.

Frank, Seriously? She BARELY Remembers “Father’s Day”. Do You REALLY think Your "Quill-CRAZY Daughter would Remember “Parent’s Day”????

Even Luann knows the old man is joking, .For all the times the kids don’t appreciate the parents… until they’re gone.

Parents’ Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday each year. Citizens, organizations, and federal, state, and local governmental and legislative entities are encouraged to recognize Parents’ Day through proclamations, activities, and educational efforts to recognize, uplift and support the role of parents in bringing up their children.

Frank, you’re sounding either like a hard-boiled dad or like someone who got is holidays scrambled. In any case, mom has taken the hot air out of his souffle.

Children’s Day was proclaimed by President Bill Clinton to be held on October 11, 1998, in response to a letter written by a six year old boy inquiring if he would make a Children’s Day for him. “National Child’s Day” was proclaimed by President George W. Bush as June 3, 2001 and in subsequent years on the first Sunday in June..Children’s Day is recognized on various days in many places around the world, to honor children globally. It was first proclaimed by the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in 1925 and then established universally in 1954 to protect an “appropriate” day. Major global variants include a Universal Children’s Day on November 20, by United Nations recommendation..Above provided by Wikipedia

Parent’s day doesn’t exist here in Canada, but, since I’ve never been married and have never had kids; I’m hoping they bring in an “Uncle’s Day” :p

“That has always been one of my favorites. I told my wife years ago that when my time came, it would be my wish to have it played at my funeral.”
I would just be bawling at your funeral!

“but just doesn’t quite get the growl in that glissando.”^Yeah, switching to more digital products will do that… the air pressure from a Hammond is not even going to be duplicated…lol! ==But if you ever check out Poco guitarist Rusty Young’s technique with lap steel and a speaker, he gets pretty close to an organ sound… an example is found on their second album, “Poco”…. or the spinning Leslie speaker technique that Roger Waters uses on the “Meddle” album….

Either silly or just a plain “wise” cracker. Oh, and about Parent’s Day, remember those Foster Parents who take care of society’s lost and abandoned children…

Too many days already! I just like to Skype with my kids when I can. My parents are long gone (born in 1911 and 1912). They’d be over 100 if alive.

“The Hammond b3 utilizes tubes in the preamp as well as the amp that drives the speaker…”^I forgot that it wasn’t a wind pipe… it’s that “growl” that it produces that is similar…..
