I asked an upperclassman what subjects he was taking. He said “Algebra.” I said, “What’s that?”He said, “Oh, that’s where you spend all year finding out what X is.”I wanted extra help, so I said, “Tell me, what IS X?”I can relate to those little guys.

Why do all her classmates regard Tiffany as clueless? Tiffany has definite ambitions in life, and she actively pursues them. That’s the opposite of “clueless”. Luann is more nearly adrift, coming up with unrealistic goals out of the blue like attending Julliard and then abandoning them the next day. That’s more nearly “clueless”.
I don’t know about the rest of you folks but I was 5’2" when I went into high school at age 13 and I am still 5’2" and I graduated 52 years ago! EGAD I’m old and I spend my days reading cartoons about teens…I have no life! LOL! Help!
Just noticed that my height and the years since my graduation are the same numbers…5 2. I must be tired as I am now talking about nonsense. Goodnight all.
Hey I have trouble telling the ages. *th and 9th graders can be 5 ft 6 to 8 or better, and these are the girlsWe have two in my church as alter servers and I embarrassed myself by asking one what high school grade she was, and she said not high school, 8th grade. Young people are getting taller all over the 1st economic world, except perhaps in Russia.
The freshmen look about right to me. I can empathize with their cluelessness, too. Entering high school from eighth grade was such a big deal back in the days before the educationistas invented “middle school”….
Why do you all expect the Luann Timeline to follow Real Life time? I don’t get it. So what if her “senior” year takes another 10 to finish. I personally enjoy this comic and don’t want it to end, which it would probably do once there is no more childish antics and teenage angst to play with. College just isn’t all that funny. Why must you all compare and analyze every little bit? Just enjoy. Laugh. Remember your own “stupid years”. Sheesh.
I was 5’ 9’ in high school. Mom was 5’ 10 and dad was 6’1. I was the shorty in the family. Lots of boys were my height or shorter. I had long hair and weighed 125. Wish I was still that thin…
So, will Luann and company FINALLY graduate HS? Greg has made a point of stating its their senior year. ’Course, in “Luann Mean Time”, it could take another 3-years of real-time for them to graduate.
I can explain Gunther’s fears… Either he has a schedule that will kick his butt, a locker on the “wrong side of town”, or he has the teacher that they warned him of …. (cue “dun dun duuuunnnn”)
I had a chance to revisit my Grade and Middle Schools, and was taken aback…. when I was there, it felt pretty standard, the desk sizes, the hallways, the whole thing… but now? I realize how tiny that stuff really was!… – Also got a chance to go back and see my old HS… but it still seemed pretty big.. in fact, it boasted one of the largest sized campuses on the east coast, and they turned a third or so of it into area school administrative offices, and had absorbed a nearby HS student body when their building closed down, with room to spare for both schools….
Mmmm. I remember being all 5’s. That was 50 years ago, however, and things have definitely changed a bit. Funny but I’ve shrunk an inch and my shoes have grown one size. I figure I’m slowly sliding downhill. Eventually I’ll be 1’ tall and have 4’ long feet. lol
Guess there are a lot of old timers on here.I’m male and graduation was 1964 (that makes me 67).I was 6’3" and 171# my senior year and now am 6’3" and 300# :o(.

“but I know she looks at her schedule every year with fear”My son is a senior this year. He got exactly the classes he wanted, but he has two English classes at once, which he definitely can’t handle. He is afraid to go get it fixed because he doesn’t want to lose any of the art classes he was looking forward to.
1) I think LuvLu got it right— the 9th graders just seem that small to the almighty seniors!*2) I am, so, like, totally, like relieved that Bernice remembered to wear BLUE today, so she would not be matchy, matchy with Luann’s PINK. Let’s just hope that Delta has a purple or green top on!*3) But the question remains— did any of the girls get their hair wet at Rosa’s party? Or did they just spend the event modeling their swimsuits?*4) Will Quill appear?
I thought this too and I was only(and still am) 5’ 1"! But I’m telling you those freshman were tiny! I was like what the heck, are those kids even going on 14??
His teacher is Mrs. Godfrey? LOL!^Either that, or Miss Crabtree…. then Rosa would have some… “competition”… ha ha!… Then he’d also have to stock up on his favorite cologne and order a bolt of the shiny material to make the “checkerboard” patterns…

In the town of my “Wonder Bread” years, it was K-6 and 7-12. There were three elementary schools (Believe it or not, kids still actually “walked” to school then) and one high school. As the population of school kids grew, the town knew they had to build a new HS building. After several budget battles with the town “seniors” (who felt no need to use their tax payer dollars to build a new building), we got it built. The old HS building would serve as a “Middle School” (5-8), and the HS 9-12. Sadly, I moved out of town before I got to attend the new HS building.
At the new town, the middle school was 6-8 and the HS 9-12. I think the trend of the day was for HS to emulate college as much as possible.
“They also have a culinary option, a web design option, etc.” Maybe Gunther should enroll in the web class…after all, his shirts all look like square spider webs… ;)
Quill couldn’t afford the air fare all the way from Australia to California. He made it only as far as Hawaii, where he met and fell in love with Aaron Hill. Expect Luann to receive a very interesting wedding invitation in a year or so.
