Gunther: "I'm definitely becoming more confident, Rosa! I feel like I could do... ANYTHING!"
Rosa: "Like run away with me to Peru?"
Gunther: "Ha! Good one! Run away to Peru!"
Wow! G-man feels like he can do almost anything… he’s even learned new vocab words, like “no” and such! But the trick is, can he use it in a sentence with Rosa ?…. – Regardless of the status of his relationship, the opportunity is a once in a lifetime thing… -Is Rosa going to “put a magnet in his compass” and point him to Peru?…Looks like she finally has that opportunity to let him know what’s been going on… – Gunther’s finally got a bit of starch!… Now here comes “The Pressing!”….
“A Deterred Gent (New And Improved)”“Rosa Comes Clean”“♪…Stand In The Place Where You Live… ♪”“♪…I’ll do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Move To Peru)….♪”“Pay Peru Event”
Hmmm. Ya know, being a manly man doesn’t necessarily mean running off to Peru. That’s HER dream not his, and for all the awesome kiss, this is but a high school romance.
The correct path is to get her to agree with his hopes and dreams…which, as I recall, is being an engineer. The Peace Corps takes volunteers of any age, but he has only one chance to get the college he needs to be an engineer.
OMG – Is Rosa actually going to get Gunther to go with her to Peru?? As the Luann characters grow up and run off in different directions, Greg could follow them like Trudeau does with Doonesbury.
we have to still, give benefit of a doubt to Gunther there is a difference between, “run away to x-place” and “come with me to x-place to do volunteer stuff and other things”
Peru? What happened to her plan to join the Peace Corps and go to Ecuador? And is this the beginning of the end of the relationship, since Gunther most definitely will not be going to Peru (it’s more than 5 miles from Pitt, and anyway he doesn’t drive).
A steaming Peruvian jungle with Rosa, learning how to speak Spanish and teach hygiene to sweaty little munchkins. Then head a bit north to Columbia and tour one of the main sources for the cocaine weed. Forget it. Get your engineering degree and travel 1st class.
Maybe Gunther should ask Rosa if she would run away to another college with him. So far, it’s her doing all of the “wanting”, does she even care what would make Gunther happy? She’s going to be one idealistic dragon lady.
@flyingairmanI don’t think Rosa is a dragon lady. I thinks the difference is:GUNTHER thinks he will never do better than Rosa, so he feels immense pressure to conform to her. If he doesn’t, he imagines he will loose his only chance at a hot, motivated, confident chick.ROSA likes Gunther, but knows if it doesn’t work out then she’ll meet new people and may find someone better suited to her personality and life goals. She lets Gunther know her likes and dislikes and invites him to join her life. If that isn’t for him? Well, she enjoyed it while it lasted and wishes him luck in his future endeavors!
Are You STILL on This “Peace Corps” Kick?!?And You wanna Drag Gunther into it Too?What, You Think that Now that the G-man has (temporarily)stood up to Needle-Nose, He can take on Peru’s Aging, Floundering, Shinning Path Guerrillas single handed?
Got a BETTER Idea, Rosie: Why Don’t YOU Follow Gunther to Community College?
Alas, poor Gunther: he thinks Rosa is joking! But when he realizes she is serious, will it deflate his new-found confidence? Or will he agree to go to Peru? —And “Peru” need not mean The Lost World; Lima is a great city.If Gunther and Rosa were to leave for Peru, the “college days” Luann would simply have another international flavor (besides Australian).
Did I miss him ‘properly’ asking her to attend the prom with him as he told Les he was going to do? He yelled her name & kissed her but no question about the prom!
Gunther: Let’s graduate from college first because if I take a 2 year break I might lose the motivation to go back. If you still want to do the job corps after college we can roll. I meet you halfway and follow you to Yale. Deal?
Gunther won’t be at Pitt Community College with Luann, but he will still be in town, as a student at Moony Uni. He plans to go to grad school there, too. Quite likely he’ll still be living at the Berger residence. As for Peru, Rosa might as well have suggested that they run off together to Neptune. Ain’t gonna happen.
Either that, or he’ll “see the light” about the apron strings (all it may take is one more utterance of “Gunny”), or even Quill having a guy to guy talk, seeing as how he has some experience in travelling… though they both are pretty much “works in progress”….
Uh, Gunther (you Really Do look a Lot more confident than you’ve ever been!)…Rosa is Serious…this would be a great adventure for Both of you…and, this is Not the time to joke! ;)
I agree that she would be… just wanted to add that Gunther may also be helped to realize it with each and every “Gunny” his mom utters, as it irks him greatly to be “smothered”, though he knows his mom loves him dearly… so this too may help to prompt him to give more thought towards it…
Gunther: It’s time to Fly!…you need to start untangling those apron strings…it will do Both you and your Mom a lot of good! Especially since she really Does know that one day her son Will leave his childhood home and step into the adult world… baby birds (and no, I am not comparing Gunther to an actual baby bird) Must leave the nest Sometime…why not now? ;)
I’ll bet Leslie would be more nearly willing to run away to Peru with Rosa than Gunther would. She should keep her prom date options open a while longer.
This has nothing to do with Gunther and Rosa. Darn it!
But I just saw the Luann stage play script sale site (from the traditional Samuel French) and there’s an option to buy the soundtrack.
Don’t break my heart! Tell me the soundtrack includes the ENTIRE soundtrack and not just the songs/music. Dialogue. Hissy fits! Bullies! Ostracism! All the stuff that none of us miss from high school!
More than 50 percent of Peruvians live in poverty. The poverty line for a family of four is $300 month. Per capita income is $3,500 a year. About 60 percent of Peruvians earn less than $190 a month.
Because of the rampant poverty, Lima has a large number of pueblos jovenes, or shantytowns, where residents live without running water or electricity. Villa El Salvador is by far the largest, with slightly fewer than 400,000 people.
Unemployment in Peru is so out of control that it can’t be measured. In Villa el Salvador, the unemployment rate is estimated to be up to 75 percent.
Earthquakes in Peru are common occurrences as the country in a seismic zone.
The postal service in Peru is extremely unreliable. Your mailed letter may or may not get to its destination, and if it does, it could take a month. Mailing packages is not recommended.
The water in Peru is not safe for tourists to drink and should not even be used to brush one’s teeth. Forget about ordering a drink with ice.
And the weirdest: Because of the unsophisticated plumbing in Peru, used toilet paper is not flushed down the toilet but is placed in a separate bin next to the toilet. Gross!

Let’s not get crazy here. From alibi.com:
More than 50 percent of Peruvians live in poverty. The poverty line for a family of four is $300 month. Per capita income is $3,500 a year. About 60 percent of Peruvians earn less than $190 a month.

Operative words: “run away with me.” And live in separate rooms? Not likely. Rosa wants to seduce Gunther. At last, let them graduate first
