Well, I wonder How Long it will be before THOSE Three Roommates Request, No, DEMAND a NEW Roommate, Bern?

Funny, I remember the one time I let a friend? copy my homework. He copied it word for word and since we sat and alphabetic seated following each other, were soon had the teacher wondering. We finally had to admit to it as it was graded. Funny it was the only time he received a higher grade than me in a marking period.

You won’t have Bernice to copy off of in the future, Luann.So, no change!

So even though Bernice is going to Muni, she will be living in a dorm and moving out of her home? I doubt that Gunther will do the same, somehow.

And depending on if Greg continues any of them in the future, 4. could possibly be a surprise (Luann somehow getting in during the next semester or next year)….

What?? Luann actually expects Bernice to let her copy from her homework? It’s bad enough that she doesn’t focus on her studies, but she wants her friend to let her cheat off her? I didn’t think she could get that low, but then again, expecting to copy schoolwork from a friend is typical of someone who’s too lazy to learn anything or work for her grades. She’s almost as bad as Tiffany.

I guess Luann was watching the comparably inferior educational show “Arrested Me Street”, that day.. – “C is for copy.. that’s good enough for me!..”

I never copied somebody’s homework. So now, after all these years, I’m wondering if the teachers all knew who copied who’s homework (it was probably pretty easy to tell).

How big is that dorm room,. if 4 people can sleep comfortably? Double up?

I admire Bernice for her willingness to take a chance on a new living environment. And I don’t think her friendship with Luann will ever fully disappear.

That day finally comes, when that cute girl slips you a piece of paper… you almost mouth “You’re the one!” to her, anticipating going “neener! neener!” to those other girls who snubbed you…. – As you unfold the paper, you think “That checkered shirt doesn’t look so hideous! Those kids were just jealous!”… As you finally uncrinkle that last bit of industrially processed stationery, you start to wonder how many of her books she’ll let you carry… – Aaah! Finally, it’s unveiled! And now everything is going to go your way! And Mr. Hackenbush will have to respect you now, for you are about to “sign the contract” that will permit you to bask in the glory of being a part of your school’s next power coup- (record scratch!) – “Hey, where are all the smiley faces and hearts and check boxes and stuff?” … Yes, to your surprise, astonishment and now chagrin, the horror has finally been unfolded… it’s nothing more than a query into problem number 3-5 on the test.. the test that you’ve been ignoring for the past 20 minutes, and will now fail, and on top of everything else, you missed out on your doodle session which you usually enjoy after you finish ahead of everyone else.. – And Mr. Hackenbush doesn’t care that it was from somebody else, and he lets you know that, as it’s his turn to run detention that day, and he’s mad, cos you just happened to be the only one who got detention that day, and he’s mad because now you both have to miss “Welcome Back Kotter”…… well, he’s more mad that he’s going to miss it….

It will be fun seeing the whole gang together at Muni. (of COURSE they are all going to end up there ;) )The strip has sort of lost sight of the parent/kid relationships and has been focusing more on love interests and making career choices. College is a much more interesting place for them to be. Maybe, like Doonesbury, and For Better or Worse, we’ll have the fun of watching them continue on into adulthood and parenthood, too. I’ve always liked Luann – I have a feeling I’m going to love it, for a long, long time.

It doesn’t make sense that Luann is cool with going to the community college instead of Moony Uni with her friends. Maybe she will change her mind and be one of Bern’s roomies. Tiffany can be another, and Gunther’s mother could round it out. After all, doesn’t she want to watch her baby boy?

-one suspects getting along with 3 other girls living in the same space will be tough on her-I very much agree. In fact, I anticipate an arc where Bernice discovers that all the things she criticized in Luann aren’t nearly as annoying as the many habits of her new roommates. Instead of ‘obsessing’ over boys, one roomie may obsess over getting into a particular sorority. Another may want to party all the time; a third may be a female version of Gunther who attaches herself to Bernice for mentoring….-I’m now beginning to look forward to future arcs about Bernice!

New classes, new experiences, new schedules, new social life, new friends. Of course you’ll grow apart, Bernice— the only way to stay as you are now is to NOT to grow!*But hopefully, after years growing apart, you’ll again be drawn together— like magnets, and your friendship will be golden.

Some friends don’t realize they are hurting their friend by letting them copy. After all, the friend doesn’t realize he or she is hurting himself or herself..I remember a classmate letting another classmate copy her French homework. He justified his copying by the fact that he already spoke a second language, Spanish..I never said a word. He knew ’twas wrong, just tried to justify himself just as he had convinced her.

Ah. . . . . .Now their friendship makes sense. I argued and fought with my sisters when I was growing up. We were never loving and supportive of each other when we were young. I never chose any friends that were like sisters to me. I picked friends who were nice to me.

And, if that weren’t enough, the mall and library are right there, too!….

Or, at least, Standford. I’m thinking Gunth could handle that… with, perhaps, weekend visits to home. Maybe Quill will live with Ms. Berger as a “caretaker” while Gunth is away. He can then attend Moony Uni.

- Luann is not saying Bernice is not acting like Bernice because she wants to share space with people in close quarters-I was going to respond to you, but kept scrolling down and saw that DavidHuie Green had already done that, and said it much more clearly than I would have done. I agree with his response; Luann was surprised that Bernice signed up to share space with others because that has not been Bernice’s past behavior. And Bernice was saying that she wants to make a new start. -My hope is that all the characters will have the opportunity, including Luann, who needs new friends who don’t see her as just a low achiever with limited interests. Maybe when she has those new friends, we’ll see fewer postings on this site condemning Luann, who knows?

Actually, I think it’s more about “Comfort Zones” , which includes both sharing space, and new friends….

Growing up, I had the “animal facts cards” catalogue system that they used to sell, with the picture on the front, and the animal facts on the back, and they fit into this box. – It has translated to the current day, by means of my wife. I am the drafted appointed bug wrangler/critter handler and identifier… if there’s a critter loose, and I’m asleep….right on cue!… Needless to say, I have to brush up, by watching Steve Irwin, Jeff Corwin, etc. (part of my “required” training)… – Also, needless to say, I’ve learned to hear my wife calling my name, in my sleep, or as soon as I’m good and reclining… I have to hand it to her, though… she’s gotten calmer and calmer in her voice when she needs to employ my services….

-I can understand her in her weak moments being just a tad conceited -I don’t know that I’ve thought of Bernice as conceited because she’s a better student. I do think of her as thinking that she is a better person than Luann, which has been a disappointment to me. -But, to me, allowing that someone can feel conceit because they are more capable of certain things than someone else is certainly giving that person a very big ‘hall pass’, to use a school term. -After all, athletes are usually much better at their sports than those who sit and watch, but we don’t want to encourage them, even in their weak moments, to conclude that they are better people than nonathletes. We need to praise them when they show themselves to understand that they have certain gifts, but that those gifts (and their own hard work) don’t mean that they are better than others.-My younger brother is a science professor. When we were in school, he was so much better at math than I that I often had to ask for his help. On the other hand, I was a much better writer. Neither of us, even in our weakest times, were conceited about our various strengths or looked down our noses at each other. And I see Bernice doing that with Luann.-Despite the fact that my brother and I tried not to hold ourselves up as special, our younger sis, who struggled very much with most school subjects (except arts) was convinced that we were always putting pressure on her to be ‘like us’. And she often just gave up, because she felt she could never measure up.-In a way, I’m glad I haven’t been reading this comic as long as others, because it would be painful to see Luann disliking herself and considering herself to be a failure because she didn’t measure up to Bernice. And I haven’t seen that yet.

No, I get treats, now!… – No, but really, I think that she gets calmer and doesn’t shriek or jump up and down, now, when an “orb weaver spider” or a “1,000 legger” comes by… or an emperor scorpion (okay, we’re both going to be jumping and shrieking, on that one!)…

With three roommates, Bernice is about to ignore Luann and concentrate on MU college social life…despite what she just told Luann. I think she means well, but…life gets in the way and old friends move on to different people. I’m thinking Luann is going to end up being depressed because she is going to a community college rather than MU… ;)
