I know it’s not easy to feel ‘comfy’ in a place where someone’s face is looking at you from all the frames on the wall, but Gunther’s back is way too,um, upright. (Compared to Jeremy in Zits, who always looks like he has no spine at all and just fills every space between his parent’s couch and the fridge, anyway.)-Try to relax, Gunther. Who knows? Maybe TIff isn’t thinking about what you’re worried about? Maybe she really does just want to work on the homework?

Poor Gunther – Hard to say if he worries more about something not happening – or something happening. I can visualize Tiff in a loose robe – sitting down close to Gunther – suddenly her legs start hurting….

Well, Tiffany has certainly marked her territory- and by “territory”, I mean her dorm suite… – Time must be a very good student- because Time is surely passing…. But is it quickly, or is this one of those awkward “what to do?” moments? – What if…by some random coincidence, Bernice were to drop by- oh, say, for instance, to…borrow something…or to ask some favor…

I notice in panel 1, Gunther’s face is mostly similar to the third panel, with his “eyebrows of discovery” going up, and no sweat on his forehead, nor any “visible shaking”, which are Gunther’s usual “signs of nervousness” (and similar to Saturday’s “Gunther expression” in the last panel)…he’s probably just one DefCon away from the “big red button” (which, of course, is at DefCon 1, his usual normal level)…

Gunther is wondering why all of the photos of Tiffany are exactly the same, except for the size.

Since Tiff would have been paid to pose for the paper inside the frame, I would imagine the amount of frames sold to be completely irrelevant. Modelling for the frame would still be a great thing to have on her resume, or whatever it is.

I think Gunther is more nervous about the fact that Tiff is in the shower naked just a few feet away.

Yes, her father could have sprung for an apartment but I thought it was canon that she lived in the same dorm as Bernice.

My dorm room consisted of a large shared desk, two single beds, two chairs, two closets and a dorm mate. Couldn’t fit an extra chair in there if we had wanted to.

Back when I lived in the dorms we could only have opposite-sex visitors Sundays 1-4 PM, and the door had to be ajar. Since most went home on weekends, that wasn’t such a big thing. It’s soooo much better these days.

I know that the purple pillow is supposed to be a heart, but I keep seeing it as a tush.

Is that supposed to be Tiffany’s dress lying there in front of tense neo(?)-Gunther? I guess not, since that would mean she undressed in front of him! No wonder the boy would be uptight! Curious, though, that the heart-decorated yellow cloth item so resembles her sundress….Oh, well. Let’s just see what transpires when she gets out of the shower.

Don’t know why Gunther would be particularly uncomfortable because of the decor….he is a bit of a fashion designer, after all.

Funny how TIffany has all these portraits of herself, and she’s not even in Mr Zebo’s class.

The last time we saw Gunther on a couch it was sitting next to Mr Gray, and we still don’t know what happened there.

howtheduck, I think b is very likely. I’m betting that Greg is well aware that in 18th c. satirical art, paintings on the wall behind the subject actually represent thought balloons.

She will probably find that a HOT shower renews the pain. That will bring on shrieks and … What will Gunther do?

Let the weirdness begin: crisis in the shower? Tiffany comes back wearing only a towel? Bernice appears at her door? Gunther is seen and gains an unearned reputation as a real “stud?” Gunther and Tiffany become a couple?

A fish in outer space. Note that there’s nary a book to be seen in Tiff’s place. It looks like they’re each comfortable with each other, so maybe this is what they need to grow— sunshine and a little rain.

“Oh Guthie…I forgot a towel…would you be a dear and bring me one?”

Who knows what Gunther’s thinking. Maybe he misses Rosa more than anyone knows. Who knows what Tiff has up her sleeve or if Tiff will have sleeves when she returns. Call me blind, but is that a Mona Lisa smile on Gunther’s face?

This could turn out really bad for Gunther. Tiffany could have any boy on campus in the sack within 2 seconds. I’m not sure what she’s up to, but it does not bode well.

I would like to see the “opposites” quietly develop trust and friendship. Tiffany can focus on someone other than herself, and Gunther can concentrate on helping Tiff academically. Then, just let nature follow its course.

A lot of people want Gunther to get together with Tiffany, but that’s just shallow. Opposites attract initially, but don’t stay togehter without compromise. Tiffany can’t compromise and Gunther just wants a partner. They can’t even have a conversation unless it’s all about her. It’s just a matter of everybody thinking that a kind of homely nerd boy somehow “deserves the hot girl.” That’s just superficial.

Will she have the nerve to show Gunther a fresh-scrubbed face without make-up? To be with a guy in lounge-around clothes instead of a carefully picked-out outfit? Is Gunther finally the guy with whom she can risk being real?

And WHERE ARE THE POOR SALAMANDERS?

That ottoman on the circle rug strangely resembles Tiffinay’s hat & the material laying on it resembles the dress she was wearing. In panel 2 she is unbelting, did she remove the dress in front of Gunther also?

She keeps much neater house(dorm) than slob Luann does!

Remove “..on those field notes” from the first panel and this comic strip takes on a whole new meaning.

Sorry, but I don’t see how any of these ‘toons say anything about Gunther’s orientation. What they say to me is that he feels like he’s finally got some kind of mentor, like an older brother, who can help him figure out what to do with this life, and his mother keeps interrupting…

I would say she has a large single dorm room or control over a two person dorm. Recall all that furniture brought in?

“Suite…” as Tiff refers to it…. I forget the strip but she called it a suite.

There is speculation on that seeming fact. Breasts or buttocks be, coincidence or with purpose?

Even more interesting is the pillow just to the left of the purple one, that appears to be a pair of lips. Could Greg (via Tiff) be telling someone, “Kiss my b*****ks?” ;-PPP

Perhaps, it is. But one would think if it’s the case you describe, he could do that more overtly such that the symbolism is perfectly clear to all. I believe Greg, knowing that he can’t reference something “risqué” like our scenario so overtly, has to do it quite “covertly.” Hence the pillow innuendo. Admittedly, the purple pillow does look a little more like a heart than a derriere, but that could be part of the “obfuscation.”

God only knows what kind of attire (or lack thereof) Tiffany will have when she emerges ( I predict a bathrobe w/ the ‘suggestion’ of nothing on underneath). To be honest I am not looking forward to Tiffany making advances on Gunther. Maybe she will further surprise us with none of the above.

NO.Gunther is not the type to find joy in revenge. Luann might be, or Bernice — even TJ or Brad, but not Gunther.

and then there was a knock on the door and it’s Bernice! and when Tiffany emerges (all ready for whatever…….) she finds Bernice and Gunther engaged in conversation. I know this is not what Evans had in mind as this arc is about Gunther and Tiffany. It was fun while it lasted.

In the Spanish version, the “heart cushion” is brown, and the cloth with hearts lying across the round stool is dotted — looking greenish and totally unlike Tiff’s bright yellow dress..PREDICTION:I predict that this cloth will serve some purpose in the story as it develops. Otherwise, why is it so prominently there?.A hide-the-eyes cover up? Any other thoughts?

Gunther is twiddling his thumbs and looks bored, maybe a bit puzzled by the room décor but certainly not nervous and apprehensive. Old Gunther might be sweating and fearful. New Gunther seems to know his mission (here) and likely it has nothing to do w/ Tiffany other than writing up the assignment.

Where’s the Jeopardy “Think” music when you need it?

Because it’s a logical question for a girl to ask a guy when he seems unable to form a relationship with a girl. An inability to form a relationship isn’t just a result of being uncomfortable around someone; it also grows from not relating to that person, or not feeling what you’ve been told you’re supposed to feel and worrying about it.

I know Greg has been dancing around the idea of Luann losing her…v-card to Quinn but he might go all in with Gunther and Tiff.

Yeah, I’m with the camp the believes “Au Natural” is in reference to the make up (i.e. no mascara, eye brow pencil, liner, etc. etc.). Although, it could be another “obfuscation/innuendo…” ;-)))

Regarding comic strip mash-ups – it’s a good idea remove the signature. That’s not Greg’s work.
