My college must have been an anomaly, since our RAs never did “rounds” and were there to be advisers and not inspectors or cops. Also, they were grad students, not sophomores like Bernice.
I wonder if this is going to be a storyline about Piro not being able to afford housing in college and having to couch-surf his way through school. We’ve already seen him attempting to sleep in Bernice’s room, or actually doing so, twice before.-If so, at least it could be a way of having Bernice be an RA who gives advice, rather than just being the rule enforcer.
Why does the dorm have a rule that the windows have to be shut at 10:00PM? You can’t sleep with the window open? This college has way too many residential rules. Quill and Gunther are right to live off-campus.
Bernice and the student-hobo? I can’t relate unless I think of walking into my room and finding a displaced Reese Witherspoon needing a place to crash.
I notice Piro isn’t sleeping yet though, he’s sitting with his arms crossed. Maybe he’s waiting to talk to Bernice? The windows locked reference might be due to the rising number of sex assaults on campuses around the U.S. Just guessing though.
The “room 201” thing for Tiff as compared to the sign on the side of the building is almost certainly just an error. It’s been clearly ascertained that Tiffany and Bernice live in the same building.

Ugh! That creepy Star-Headed Piro has invited Himself into Her room again. The SMART Move Here would be to leave quickly, notify the Campus Police, then sit back and ENJOY Watching Them giving the Bum a MUCH Needed “Wood Shampoo.”
Of Course THAT Is Not gonna Happen. After Her initial shock Bern and Creep will spend the rest of this Week’s Storyline talking. And later, even fall in fall in LOVE with Him given Bern inexplicable Attraction for “Edgy” Brooding Guys.
BAH!
I Wonder what kind of B/S “Sob Story” He’s going to Tell Her, and WHEN He’s going to ADMIT that He’s NOT Even a Student on Campus?
> I think 10 PM is not considered late on many campuses.>I agree, but Bernice is making such a big deal about only quietmusic after 10, and you have to keep the windows closed. That need for quiet seems at odds with allowing a uke-and-bongo rave to go on simultaneously on the Quad!
Although our R.A.s made no rounds and weren’t intended mainly as inspectors or cops, they did enforce the school’s policies if they became aware of some flagrant violation. One such instance was a student who was allowing a classmate (and former dorm resident) to stay in his room, without paying a board contract, When the R.A. found out that was happening, the free-loader had to pay back rent, and both students had to pay a fine. I wonder whether Bernice is about to have to undertake a similar disciplinary action with Piro, who at least seems to be a vagrant.
“could also be a general safety rule, for their own protection ( against intruders for example).”^Yes, I was thinking about that possibility, too ( which is what I was referring to in my second comment, the “unplanned stranger”). – “Also, for fire safety, wouldn’t closed windows be better than open ones, to not “feed the flames” potentially?”^Well, just thinking about the matter on the surface, that would seem to be logical. – Perhaps one of our resident/former fire service/EMTs/general rescue personnel (perhaps Torad, for example) could give us a more definitive and seasoned take on the matter…
“I think 10 PM is not considered late on many campuses.”^I’m about 20 min. past Towson State U.(in Md.), and they are the reason cops patrol the business district in Towson. Not for a bunch of rowdy college kids, but to make sure they head back to the safety of their dorms/residences. The mall is right up the street, as is a movie complex and a host of restaurants, so the college kids can sometimes “mix in” with all the other crowds around. – There was a Jerry’s Subs there that stayed open till 2 AM with “Hungry Student” discounts on certain days. But everything else shuts down by at least Midnight (with the exception of the convenience stores or a 7-Eleven or the aforementioned restaurants/entertainment venues or the a pool hall, which also shuts down about 1-2). But the campus there has rules about being in the dorms by a certain time (around Midnight or so, depending on which dorm it is), and only the private apartment buildings nearby that rent to both general public and students may not have a curfew…
@Gary13: Excuse me, but you just pushed one of my buttons with the Shakespeare quote about killing all the lawyers. Not many people realize that, while Shakespeare did indeed write that line (well, unless it was Kit Marlowe or Some Other Guy), not many people realize that Shakespeare put that line in the mouth of the town jackass. It was intended to be taken as the opinion of a lout and a buffoon.
“Former firefighter / arson investigator here…..but there’s a tradeoff for comfort on a hot night, especially in an un-air-conditioned space.”^Thank you for your service and your expertise!
Implausible…. is her free ride covering both tuition and her room and board in the dorm, though? Or is the free ride only for tuition… and she paid for the dorm last year? I cannot recall. If she paid for the dorm last year, this would be a step up (free room) even if it is with roomate, Dez.
Everyone’s oh-so-compliant and oh-so-glad to see Bernice the RA because they all loved the hall monitor so much in high school. Bernice will become a condo commando at a gated community in her later years. Who says education is wasted on the young?
Back in the dark ages when I was in college, we did not have coed dorms. The men’s dorms were on one side of the campus and the women’s on the other… It wasnt until I was a senior that visitors of the opposite sex were even allowed above the lobby.
