Goth boy has some serious empathy chops! I am kinda disappointed that the strip is continuing to have Luann the same class with the same characters though… it was a stretch in high school, and a stretch too far for college.

He’s Emo, not goth.

For only showing one eye Emo sees things pretty clearly.

Jock is insensitive and opportunistic, but not malicious. Still Emo (I don’t recognize Zébo’s authority in denominating him “Goth”) is correct, and Jock needs to back off and allow Luann her space as the enormity of her actions gob-smacks her….

So all three of them failed this art class last semester and are taking it over again? Tough class, the prof should use the curve to grade.

This is a very interesting comic strip. I read 40 comics every day but this is the 1st one I read.

Not so fast to criticize Jock. Could be a character to develop. If Jock were to succeed in getting a date with Luann – and she meets Jock’s dogs – might be an attraction and affection. Jock may be an oaf, but probably not an ogre (like Dirk was to Toni). Wednesday’s frames will let us know more.

And Quill is not yet finished. We have not seen an episode which shows him packing to leave Mrs. Berger’s house.

I still don’t understand why so many people don’t like Quill. Remember the Valentine’s Day when he set up the Skype, had her room decorated, and sent her a gift? How he stood up to Tiffany? He can’t help it that Luann’s pathologically insecure and jealous—he did everything he could to show he cared about her. And I forgive him for being excited about his chosen profession. People complain because young guys aren’t dedicated and focused and others complain when someone is. Luann could have been working side-by-side using her extraordinary set design talents. I just don’t get the Quill hate.

I hate to say it, but when I was in college, I would have been just like the “Oaf”. Sensitive, schmenitive, its just a girl on the rebound. I wouldn’t be proud of it, but college boys tend to have a one-track mind.

She may try him again only to find out that he moved on with someone else. Love on the rebound is always a risky thing.

For Luann, “boyfriend” isn’t so much a person as it is a job. That’s why she “fired” Quill – he’s wasn’t spending enough time at it. The Emo guy appears to have nothing in his life to fill up that “black void” he imagines, so he could devote every waking hour to worshiping Luann. He’s hired!

Yea, hat boy has some potential. So enlighten me, Mikeyj, what is the difference between Emo and Goth? And Three Steps Over Japan, do you really expect people to read your massive post? We’re not living on a desert island with tons of free time you know! Try something different: editing! Down to the essence. Save your tome for when your memoir gets published… Hi, Greg, can we have a little three dimensionality with Mr art teacher-narcisist-annoying-fop? I know he reminds you of someone, but even clown Archie Bunker evolved.

Luann is having a delayed reaction. Now let’s see what ‘art’ comes out of this. Emo is surprisingly the supportive figure, so I’d put my money on a friendship between Luann and Emo in the future. Heck, Lu is friends with everyone, she will even forgive the Jock his comment.

Emo or goth the boy has some sensitivity and smarts. His friend is an oaf,but he is a nice oaf. Sort of a male Tiffany/Crystal vibe in a way. Although we are now just getting the idea that Tiffany may actually be turning into “nice.” Really should be interesting to see what they, particularly Luann comes up with.

Going out with Jock wouldn’t be so bad for Luann. It would take her mind off Quill and she would learn new things. Jock seems like a decent person, not her soulmate but a interesting distraction.

Emo is showing uncharacteristic empathy..That is odd, perhaps interesting.

Mr. Jock may not be the most sensitive guy at Luann’s school, and he may not be the brightest person we’ve seen, but he likes dogs, and maybe he has a good heart. It could be worthwhile for Luann to go out with him once or twice and see what they have in common. (Since they’re taking another course together under Mr. Zebu, apparently they both like art and have a high tolerance for abuse.)

I see them hooking Tiffany but with Gunther which I can see working out. But Bernice and Piro is just stupid.

I like the interplay between these two guys — should be a good source of comedy for the strip. Gotta love Jock. I knew some guys in college that were like that. Pretty much clueless about the complexities of women; all they knew was what their eyes and hormones were telling them. There were two statuses — “Taken” or “Available.” No clue about any gray areas in between, lol.Mr. Goth does bear a tiny bit of resemblance to the red-haired Goth kid in South Park. So I guess he’s supposed to be Goth rather than Emo.I guess I’m getting old and cynical. Always had to laugh at the so-called Emo genre (or subgenre) of music. As if no other type of music can convey emotion (which is the root word that “emo” came from.) Then I listen to the music and read the lyrics and it appears to me that these emos are actually more devoid of the full range of human emotion than other people in other genres. Emotion to them, at least according to most of the lyrics, seems limited to the dark side: apathy, despair, indifference, depression, sorrow, futility of life, etc. And if you dare to break out of that mode and do something a little happy, you risk losing your emo credentials.Then there’s Screamo, which is even more ridiculous. Basically emo with, um, more screaming. More anger.Like listening to someone’s therapy session — or, at least, someone demonstrating (or, faking for the sake of the band’s popularity and profitability) a desperate need FOR therapy sessions. No thanks.(Puts on flame-retardant suit, waiting for response from emo/screamo fans….lol)

7Let us PLEASE all hope that Luann does NOT decide to give Quill another try. It is a risk in her current emotional state. Luann… “Just say NO to Quill!!!”I think it would be delightfully fun to have either Jacque (“Jock”) or Emory (“Emo”) go out on a date or dates with Luann. I enjoy both of those characters and think that both could be further developed in some very interesting ways by Greg.

You folks need to quit hatin’ on Mr. Jock. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? If he don’t ask, he don’t find out.And in the long run, you’re get further in life jumping in and taking your chances than sitting back waiting for “the right time,” which may well happen for somebody else, probably somebody who wasn’t “too sensitive” to ask.

I hope there is no more dating but that Luann translates her emotions into some decent art. For all his black moods, Emo is the sensitive guy and I hope he produces more than just black sheets of paper. If it has to be black, he could make a black sculpture.

I sure hope she doesn’t try to draw Quill but rather some design that is a metaphor for her emotions.

Sorry if i am duplicating anyone’s post. I can not see very well yet because i have spent the day having many eye tests. There is great news on that score though, not only are my eyes still stable but a glaucoma medication change has my IOPs down to 13, has fewer side effects than the med it replaces, and will save us a over two k per year compared to the med it replaces. (I have 4 glaucoma meds.)

Here is how inclined i am to think that Spring Break has not yet happened in Luanniverse: Luann, if your universe maps ours somewhat do spend some time outside Manhattan. Check out the Bronx Zoo. Go to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden then while in Brooklyn eat at the Finch.

Now, would i really leave a message for a fictional 2D character if i did not have faith that her trip was still upcoming? Errrrrrr, wait… Fictional…

Regarding time and the Luanniverse, I think that the Evans’ might sometimes double back (in time) to pick up aspects of plots that might have been going on simultaneously with arcs that we got to witness. For example, when Tiffany came back into her ‘suite’ crying after failing to get a rise out of Piro and Gunther was there (last week), there was interaction between Gunther and Tiffany AFTER that event. But then we saw Piro going down the hall (earlier… slightly.. in time) towards his interactions with Bernice. That was a double back (only in minutes albeit) and you could see Tiffany in her pose talking about the blouse button that popped off that had already happened a day ago but it was a replay..as we needed to see the flip side of that event, i.e. Piro going toward Bernice. I even think that part of Tiff’s comment to Gunther about Bernice might even have been due to her seeing them in the hall together.. So Greg could be going back in time a bit (not too far since Luann had already broken up) to show some art classes……just a thought.

Nothing’s wrong with him at all. It’s called having a Y chromosome.

Ohh. . . I used to watch “Benson.” On YouTube, I’ve watched the ABC Fall 1979 TV preview (when the show made its debut) and there was this clip in which Caroline McWilliams’s character introduced Benson to Gov. Gatling:

With all the music references maybe Luann and Bernice will get to dance to Black Bird Hum in NYC. I think Bernice really needs to catch a Reggie Watts show in Central Park, too. Wouldn’t that give her some new perspectives? I doubt she has ever heard anything that inventive.
