Bernice has no room to talk — she forgot how to spell “Follies”, unless she’s going for a French “La Cage” kind of thing.

There is nothing wrong with an active child, who is excited about appearing at the show with her dad, whom she clearly loves, dancing around in the background. That is normal. What is abnormal is her dad’s attitude, dismissive, diffident, disrespectful, and selfish. He seems to care little about anyone or anything but himself. If he has antipathy toward Brad, I am not sure. I know Brad is not crazy about him, and Toni is conflicted. How all this fits into the wedding, and Shannon, in terms of who is eventually raising her, and is legally—caveat Luannverse—responsible for her remains to be seen. Love to see your storyboard Greg, but the trick is to keep us wondering (lol).

What happened to September 11 for the wedding date? Did I miss a date change?

I don’t understand. From people’s distinguishing between Les & Piro and dislike of Jonah, it appears that many of us actually believe "CHARACTER COUNTS’ Can this be true?

Booked? Then cannot get the date right.. I sense a disturbance in the sibling relationship force. Beginning to suspect that Jonah is a waste of life on a WHOLE other level.

Why should Jonah know right off that Toni’s wedding is on December 11? That’s 6 months away. It’s a big day in her life, not his. All he has to do is get fitted for a suit and then show up for the rehearsal and the ceremony. So long as he has in fact set aside the date, there’s no reason for him to know it right off the top of his head. The only reason to say he’s irresponsible here is if he didn’t in fact right it down. (Of course, if he is as unsuccessful and permanently unemployed as everyone here claims he is, then even if he didn’t write it down he still won’t have any conflict scheduled for 6 months from now, anyway.)

Jonah barely remembers to spend time with his own daughter, so him not remembering that his sister is getting married isn’t all that surprising, it’s just sad.

I noticed and was thinking that underneath it all, Shannon’s just a cute little kid.

I wonder when we’re gonna find out that Shannon is actually Toni’s daughter— close enough to the wedding for Brad to have to postpone it while he processes?

Ahhhhhh, so many people who have been away so long that they can not tell the characters apart, and missed entire long sequences plus all the subsequent references to them! Okay, update:1. The wedding was moved to Dec 11 and a site chosen but many of us woukd rather it happen at the fuse2. The aliens currently in the comic, Monty, removed the protoplasmic shape-shifting mimics who had been filling in, one for Nancy and Bernice, and the other for Jonah, Les, and Piro. The actual characters are back. Oh, wait, was that a dream?3. Brad is no longer merged with an octopus as w oct-shark or shark-a-pus or whatever that b-movie creation was. His standard IQ score went back down 17 points and Toni misses the tenticles.4. Yes, a clone of Shannon used Stewie’s time machine. Yes, she was Shirley Temple. End of story since it is not in Luanniverse.5. Yes, the Killjoys are after Les. Uncle Al is Level 6 and will protect him anyway for the sake of his sister.6. Shannon’s mom left when Shannon was too young to remember. We have not seen her, or haaaaaave weeeee?End of up date.

So, Jonah’s in theater. Do we maybe have a Quill/Jonah thing coming up? Probably not.

Is he transgender?

Jonah and Quill – like two peas in a pod. They are totally into themselves.^^^^^^^^^That is just not true. Quill was a lot more involved in his relationship with LuAnn than Jonah seems to be with his own child. And just because he asserted his desire to pursue his career is not ‘being totally into himself’. He also told someone his OWN AGE that this was the case. Someone he was not completely ready to commit to, since they are young and still finding their own way.

No, Jonah’s behavior is perfectly normal for most men. Dec. 11 is still months away, he probably doesn’t spend much time thinking about his sister’s wedding. I’m sure Toni will make sure he is there and dressed appropriately. She will start reminding him about a week before the wedding.

I’ve known guys like Jonah all my life. He’ll miss the wedding on December 11, then blame you for not telling him about it — again.

7Interesting. I believe Greg’s intention is to further show how much of a “flake” Jonah is as a character. And, I think today’s effort is successful. But:1) Jonah NOT knowing the 12/11 date can be quite understandable…. at least from a guy’s perspective, and from a guy’s perspective of a guest who is not likely in the wedding party (I do not think we have heard anything to the contrary… but I somehow do not think that Toni has been working to (nor plans to) have Jonah in the wedding party.).2) As a guest at the party, it could very easily be that he did not know the date yet. Also, as a guest, he might have been told the date and put it out of his memory and perhaps it is on his phone somewhere (maybe not in the calendar).But, Greg has succeeded in showing Jonah as a “flake” by having him not hear (not correctly listen to) Mrs. Degroot say December 11th. Unless of course, Jonah has a hearing deficit. :)I do like the image Greg has drawn of Shannon dancing in the background. It is cute. I do NOT like Shannon’s angry faced expression in the last panel…. even though her Dad appears to be a “flake” and Shannon has to correct him from November to the actual December date… a stronger, more compassionate (or at least more aware) father should use this opportunity to take Shannon aside and explain:“Even though you may be exasperated because I mistakenly said and thought the wrong month, your facial expression is not really helpful to YOU or to me, so you should think about this in the future for when you get exasperated.”

Anyone ever heard of hair dye or noticed that his beard stubble is black? Or that he obviously has a major case of dyslexia….aside, of course, from the long established theme that he is an irresponsible dad…and now brother, too.

They won’t divulge any future plot twists, though he said readers should prepare for “some drama and trauma” with Brad and Toni’s wedding. He also said they have to figure out how to transition the strip after Luann graduates from high school and heads for college.

EN, i know Kymberleigh a tiny bit offstrip. She has full and productive life. Her memory and organizational skills are just better. If you want to be bitter about that, then that bitterness is not everyone’s problem.

EN, You obviously have never studied genetics, endocrinology, fetal development, or any of the many fields related to the CONTINUUM which is gender. Better if you not spew ignorance on a topic in which you lack anything beyond junior high or high school levels of information. Most of us, me included, have discrete genders, but many more people than you obviously realize do not, with two of the major foundations for the differences being possible genetic variations and fetal or fetal environment endocrinological differences.

For the benefit of those who may not have been following the strip very long, I’ll offer my own analysis of Shannon. Her dad is Toni’s brother, named Jonah (I call him Fishbait, but that’s just me). His hair used to be brown and is now blond. Careful examination will reveal that his hair does not have a star cutout.

Jonah works as an actor, which means he often has to get to an audition on very short notice. Rehearsals and gigs can often run longer than planned. Even if he were the most responsible guy in the world, his career choice makes him a pretty awful father for Shannon.

I’m not aware of any mention ever being made of Shannon’s mother, she may have been a short-term girlfriend of some sort.

I’m guessing that Toni is the older sister, and that Shannon “came as a surprise” when Jonah would have been about eighteen.

Luann used to babysit Shannon and a smaller baby who seems to have been written out of the strip. More recently, Shannon is often left with Toni while Fish— uhh, Jonah is off being an actor (or getting stoned, I don’t know). Shannon used to be much more obnoxious, bratty and demanding, and Toni had a hard time coping when Shannon would act out.

Brad’s presence in the relationship has had a profound effect on Shannon, who really was suffering from the lack of an authority figure in her life. Her own dad wasn’t very involved, and Toni wasn’t very effective — but Brad is, and occasionally enlists Toni. The strips that show Brad’s sensitivity and wisdom in dealing with Shannon, and her obvious delight in his guiding presence, are the ones that got me hooked on this strip initially.

Aren’t you substituting your beliefs to be intolerant and ignorant about a population that is distributed in all societies for centuries, although most have keep this hidden for fear of prejudice, or worse, death, by using DNA as an explanation of something you do not understand and are intolerant about? Sure one is born with the equipment, but they develop with a disconnect with that equipment. That they might want to be what they feel is any different when Johnny realizes he loves Joey, and Sally realizes she loves Mary, when puberty kicks in? I am no medical scientist, but I am a unbowed antagonist against any intolerance toward those who for no choice of their own are different than the so-called norm. You don’t seem to have that issue. Transgender? Must be crazy, so I come up with incorrect, not supported nonsense about DNA to support my lack of understanding, sympathy, and my intolerance.

Sorry to be so heavy, and off Luannverse, but maybe Greg you need to introduce a transgender character so we really can plumb some prejudice.

Anyway, i had been wondering if Pru had earlier in life tried to force herself to be who she is not, and if she was perhaps Shannon’s mom. Nope, not so.
