Toni: What's this? Man: A broni bash! With stuff that rhymes with Broni! Man: Bologna sandwiches! Pepperoni pizza! provolone macaroni! spumoni! Man: A sony to enjoy tony and joni! Man: A matrimony ceremony!
Well, I am guessing Luann and family and friends have never been through a Coast storm…OK here (leaves and tree branches everywhere!), but Manzanita is a mess. They had a nasty tornado that tore up part of the town. Luann and family and friends live in a rather boring town weather-wise, don’t they?! Well, at least everything is still in One Piece in Pitts! :)
I was thinking its too early for a pre-wedding celebration since Brad and Toni aren’t getting married until the 11th of December. But, maybe not? It Is only a little bit less than two months away… =-O
Cute! And kind of surprising, since Toni is the only woman in evidence, and (in my experience) it’s usually the women who pull celebrations like this together. ;) (My apologies to anyone who might have commented on that yesterday – I was out and haven’t gone back to read yesterday’s comments.)
I think it’s cute. Yeah, cheesy, corny (ahem), or whatever, but it’s the thought that counts, right?! I’m wondering if they have chipped in for a wedding gift that we will see tomorrow. I think they are both totally surprised, honored and pleased.
boy there sure are a lot of cynical apparently miserable commentors here. Can;t you just accept the FUN in the concept that a bunch of GUYS wanted to do something and actually planned a rather elaborate presentation?
It’s Tony Bennett, people, not Tony Orlando. “The Best Is Yet to Come” is a Rat Pack era standard (think Las Vegas in about 1962). Tony Orlando and Dawn never did a cover of that song.
St. Acepsius, St. Barsabas, St. Cian, St. Damasus, Pope Saint Damasus I, St. Daniel the Stylite, St. Eutychius, St.Fidweten, Bl. Martin of Saint Nicholas, Bl. Melchior of Saint Augustine, St. Pens, St. Sabinus, St. Sabinus, St. Trason, St.Victoricus, Fuscian, and Gentian
Hah! Today’s comic has turned out very cute and very fun! I am surprised by the celebratory tone and the silliness of it. Very nice.
.
One question….. in regard to “Broni”…. I realize this is a mashing of the two names “Brad” and “Toni” as a couple…. but my question is….. is this a recent phenomena or is it something folks have done for quite a long time?
.
I first noticed one of these “mashing” of name things associated with two celebrities… perhaps four or five years ago. But, I do not know if this is just a new thing (from about four or five years ago) or if there is some sort of bigger background about this mashing of names and if it may be associated with some sort of older custom I am not familiar with.
My only comment is that this is so fun, and all part of the careful march up to December 11. Well I do agree that in a Chicago firehouse there would be Italian Beef and Sausage, Connie’s or similar pizza, Harold’s Fried Chicken, Zaco Tacos, Cantonese Chef Fried Rice, and other nice local food, not to mention the firehouse food. Our firefighters know how to cook, you can’t survive her without knowing that.
The last guy just revealed their secret plot. Toni & Brad are going to get married right there, and these “broni” meal is their reception. What a great idea— a surprise wedding that is a surprise even to the bride & groom.
For the last 3 months we have been prepping for this wedding, from bride’s maid gowns to bride’s cold feet, to concerned parents, to this silly party at the fire house. This is not Greg’s Last Hurrah, but it certainly is his big story of the year. Okay, Greg, do your thing. The high school prom was a good arc, the Rosa/Gunther escape to Peru fell flat,so let’s hope that this is an event to remember.
That’s my recollection too – “Bennifer” was the first – but – it was coined for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, not Brad Pitt and Jennifer Garner (I don’t recall that Brad and Jlo were ever a couple). More like 15 years ago.
From Wiki “supercouples”: Former pairing Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez incited unprecedented media attention for an American modern-day supercouple during their 2002-2004 courtship.6 The two were referred to as the first superstar couple of the Internet age,115 and the pairing’s popularity resulted in their being known by the portmanteau “Bennifer” (for Ben and Jennifer) to the media, as well as to fans using the name combination.5 The term Bennifer itself became popular, and started the trend of other celebrity couples being referred to by the combination of each other’s first names.

Did they time-travel to the 90s to find that boombox?
steve7701 Premium Member about 8 years ago
Lyrics are to “The Best is Yet To Come,” often sung by Tony Bennett. I have a (CD) boombox just like that, so no time travel necessary.

Comments as long as the one above couldn’t be made for awhile, till GoComics raised the character count back to 2000.

took me just a second to figure out how Bologna rhymed with Broni! (I speak Italian and Bologna is one of my favourite cities :D )

Of course, they would have had a much harder time rhyming " Torad "!

Tony and Joni refers to the music on the Sony. Tony is probably Tony Bennett and Joni and probably Joni Mitchell.

Smile, Toni! It’s ok to enjoy something you can’t control. They’re your friends— trust them. Enjoyment and smiles are the requirement of every guest!

And as far as Bronis go, I think they invited Dez to contribute her with her famed “secret ingredient”.

The lyrics coming out of the Sony are ‘the Best is Yet to Come’ which was done notably by Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, among others.
