Transcript:
Bernie & Phil - Coming to terms... Bernie: We were far from perfect, but we're not called the greatest generation for nothin', eh, Phil? Phil: Yep...we saved the world from fascists, only to now see one get elected as president. Bernie: Yeah...but I suppose things could be worse. Phil: Huh? How can it get worse than that, Bernie? Bernie: Well...I was just reading the latest thing Kanye West said... Phil: Wait...what? Who cares what Kanye West has to say?!! Bernie: Exactly. Phil: Exactly...what? Bernie: That's exactly what we used to say about Donald Trump. Phil: Is it too early to start rolling in my grave?

I hope Wiley is not suggesting that Kanye will be the next president.

Kanye’s already expressed interest, and he’s met with Trump. Hmm, maybe Trump’s going to quit like Sarah, and hand things over to Kanye??

Get over it. We survived Carter, Clinton and Obama. We can survive Trump. Give him a chance, he may just turn out to be okay. I gave Obama a chance. He still screwed up, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

The political pendulum does seem to be swinging to further extremes, and more so with these past several elections than before. It’s good to be aware of the consequences of such extremes from the past, on both sides, and wary of sensationalist rhetoric on either side as well. I don’t think I’ve seen much constructive dialog between political opponents in this context, though perhaps it’s a relatively safe place to start. I’d hope from Wiley Miller (and others) a basis for thoughtful consideration, as opposed to a basis for deepening bitterness, even in our comics, which often are a place for editorializing.

Get over it. Trump will fall in line once he’s behind that desk — just like the rest of them. Only FDR had the guts to break the mold.
matthew almost 8 years ago
Trump will have all of the executive powers that Obama has now. If that scares you, then maybe, just maybe, it would be prudent to revisit what executive powers the President can exercise. If it scares you that someone will have a certain power, perhaps that is a power that no President should have.
Food for thought.

Electing Trump is ‘in your face’ to the world. He seemed to be a caricature of the loudmouth airhead American. Now we find that he is a true representative of 50% of the country. He has wasted no time dumping his few promising ideas (i.e. lying to his voters) and furthering his bad ideas, appointing those ‘tremendous people we never heard of’. The world wishes that were still the case.

It is unfortunate that so many of you have had such a poor education and so, fail to understand the meaning of fascism. Liberals are infamous for restricting individual liberty, confiscating wages and property, and promoting murder of innocents. Fascism is a left-wing totalitarian system falsely ascribed to the right.

“remember when obama bailed out GM and then said the Gov’t owned it? that’s the definition of facism”
We had to bail out GM, you see, because when the next dumbass republican president drags us into a useless, pointless war (see “WMD in Iraq”), who do you think is going to make our tanks and armoured vehicles?
Read the excellent editorial by Gen. Wesley Clark,http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/16/opinion/16clark.html
You see, while you wrap yourself in the flag, remember that during WWII, you couldn’t BUY a GM car, because they weren’t making any, they used all of their production capacityto build airplanes, that the US used to FIGHT fascism. So tell me again, how was bailing out GM the definition of fascism?

Fascist or not, Trump has given credibility to the rest of the world’s opinion of the USA. A bunch of overweight, racist, jingoistic louts who know nothing, and care less, of the world outside their borders. The people get the leader they deserve and that reflects their values. I can only hope that the only casualty of this election is the American people themselves. The rest of the world wants nothing of it.

You don’t really read these posts do you? If you did you would know that we didn’t necessarily want her as President either Which is why voter turn out was so low. We just especially didn’t want a Big Orange clown who lies consistently like the big one about how he saw Muslims dancing in the street after 9/11, failed businessman (he bankrupted his father’s empire five times) and criminal (see how he bought his way out of the fraud charges) in there. The one that really irks me however is how he weakly said he did not accept the endorsements of the KKK and the White Supremacists but he kept their money. They tried to tie themselves to Lyndon Johnson and he sicked the FBI and the IRS on them. That is how you deny their endorsement. But most of all we wanted better candidates. I guess it may be true that we got the President we deserve.

We already have Corporatism, which is a nice blend of Socialism and Fascism. Hillary’s vast corruption would have only made it worse. We have absolutely nothing to lose by taking Trump at his word to begin eliminating the corruption. We’re probably past the tipping point already anyway. Empires rise and fall, and America has been in decline for decades, a victim of its own success. The Principles and Reason used to establish this Democratic Republic have been long abandoned, sacrificing the self-determination of Liberty and individual-oriented government for the cottony soft servitude of the State-oriented monstrosity we now endure—-for our own good, of course.

This was not a normal contest between liberal and conservative candidates. Trump does not have the temperament nor the judgement to serve as president and he certainly does not have a desire to better the lives of the populace. Just look at the billionaires and powerful opportunists who he is appointing to his cabinet.
These are very dark times and I fear for what will happen when he is firmly in power.

We’ll see what he does and doesn’t do…Conservatives may be very surprised….And liberals may be pleasantly pleased…..Trumps followers will let him do anything, they’ll follow him anywhere….He could enact 80% of the democratic agenda and they would say, “Well if it’s Trump’s idea, it must be good”….
watashi73 almost 8 years ago
I remember when Obama got elected. There were street marches and death threats to the electors if they did what they were supposed to do. Wait a minute! That didn’t happen! Fascism can come from either direction and is more likely to occur when the central government has control over the military, police, and bureaucracy, and doesn’t have to worry about the inconvenience of competitive elections.
That is the bullet we just dodged. Had Hillary won, the illegals would get amnestied and mass registered and the votes of the fly over folks eliminated in perpetuity. With just one more liberal Supreme Court justice and pen and phone it wouldn’t matter how many Republicans were in the house and senate. With the MSM, Education, and Entertainment sectors operating as auxiliary government departments and wealthy crony capitalists in tow, the fascism Wiley alludes to would have been in place.
With Trump we may have at least some shot at straightening out a few things with actual experienced leaders vs politicians, academics, and entrenched bureaucratic ideologues running the show.

Wiley: YOU’RE FIRED! I’m yanking your strip from my daily reads and I hope everyone who agrees with me that great strips that are NOT on the op-ed page have no excuse for being political, and especially politically biased. And in case you missed it, I would do the same thing even if it was Hillary rather than Trump. This strip is a great example of how the weakest cartoonists can’t keep their own politics out of a strip and be original when it comes to being funny. I urge all who feel like me to fire you—stop being customers, if you will—and yank your strip from their daily reading. If enough customers stop buying your product, you’re out of business. And with garbage strips like today’s, that’s the way it should be.

I do believe I will be leaving this strip, that used to be entertaining, to all you scary people who actually prefer a straight razor toting Dark Lord of the Sith whose main goal in life is to enslave everyone in this country to a bulbous government and remove everyone’s ability for independent thought over someone who seems to tout just allowing our system to do what it was designed to do.Personally, despite the President Elect’s short falls, I feel a lot more comfortable with what the SCOTUS will look like in the near future. To which I end with, "Good Bye Hillary. Don’t leave mad, just leave and don’t let the door hit you in the ass as you go.

I agree with Iceman47 and Bob. I think I will be removing this from my subscription list. I have always appreciated Wiley’s wit even in some of his liberal “comments”. I appreciate a well drawn cartoon that cleverly makes its point (I enjoy Toles though I rarely agree with him). But, when he stoops to typical liberal name calling that has no foundation (Since it has no foundation, all they can think to do is call names.) I’ve had enough. Trump wasn’t my 1st choice but strips like this don’t help our country in any fashion.

I guess the USA is no longer a “Safe Place” and y’all gotta move to Canada. The USA is not a democracy, it is a Republic (and to the Republic for which it stands) that is part of the pledge of allegiance, if they are teaching that anymore. We vote for the Electors in each State on a democratic basis and the Electors then vote for the President. So, all you whiners out there, play attention in civics class. You lost, we won, live with it or get out!!!!!! The world is full of tigers ready to pounce on the tender meat of the politically correct, and we are crouching in the jungle just waiting on fools who deny our existence. The tigers are the actual tax payers who crouch waiting for non-tax paying complainers who do not even want the protection of an actual country. We are a society based on the rule of law, not the cult of the personality.
