Les is SO enjoying all this. Loving how his mom’s face goes slack in surprise. Wonder if he will jump in at this point on. “Oh, yeah. Ya know the old fellow you’re conning? This girl is on to you. Say your goodbyes now if you know what’s good for you…Oh, and it is YOU who drug me into this, telling me to set it up with Pru, that I gotta work alone with you. All is on you. Okay, I have had my say. Bye now. Oh, one more thing – don’t underestimate this girl. She has resources that you don’t.”
Why is Ann Eiffel flabbergasted in the final panel?
1.She was not aware of where Tiffany’s ears were until she put her hand up to her hair to indicate their location. This is a problem for many women in this comic strip (aside from the ear-exposed Luann, of course).
2.She has suddenly connected the dots between all the pictures of the young skinny blonde girl in Mr. Farrell’s house with the woman she sees in front of her.
3.She is surprised that Tiffany Farrell has more “F” sound in her name that she does with Ann Eiffel, and briefly considers changing her name to Ann Fluffy Eiffel.
4.Up to this moment, Ann did not know that Mr. Farrell had a daughter.
5.Suddenly Ann wished that she had gone for overpriced bowling balls instead of overpriced lingerie knock-offs.
I’m pretty sure Tiffany has told her father about the scam Ann’s running. But I think the DeGroots should have been told also. They need to get legal advice to protect themselves from possible lawsuits!
And of course, the real issue is how will Mister Farrell handle all this? Could go either way, wouldn’t be the first time a kid gets booted to the curb when he or she tries to interfere with a parent’s new love interest. My guess? Tiffany’s gonna find out about one of life’s bitter little lessons, and boy if she felt depressed before, just wait.
Tiff said, “…and you’ve been dating my dad, until now.” I like to think that Tiffany’s Dad should have something to say about this. But it looks like Tiffany plans to threaten Ann with the slammer unless Ann disappears. That is extortion, which is also a crime.
Flurry of punches thrown by Ann in the first and second panels, set-up right cross by Tiffany, throwing Ann on the ropes in the second and third panel, body man for TIFFANY, in the third panel, encouraging his fighter TIFFANY on, now Ann held up only by her shock is about to be totally knocked out, and gone. This is only Wednesday so will Friday be the Gone, or Saturday? Either way Ann never had a chance. By the way the drawing of the characters as they go through this scene is sooo good. I know I am Luannfan, but look at how Ann is drawn, and her look of total shock in the third panel. Delicious!
I think it’s worth revisiting my point yesterday: exactly what was Ann hoping to accomplish by grabbing Tiffany’s phone away? Did she really think she was gonna scare her off with threats? What leverage does Ann have over Tiffany where a stern talking-to will have any effect? Ann is a lot of things, but she normally isn’t quite this stupid.
Should be interesting to see how this latest revelation affects things. At least it shocked Ann into dumbfounded silence, so we’re off to a good start. Just PLEASE let it result in more severe consequences than the usual “Ann skips town for a little while to plan her next scheme”; that one is played out.
We could get another bomb: Ann looks contrite and says, “Tiffany I’m so sorry I was rude to you. I guess you haven’t heard – but you’re my daughter now.” That would leave Tiffany wondering what to say next…
I would like Mr Farrell to be invited into the mix. Let him be presented with both sides of the story and decide for himself. I’m betting father and daughter reconcile. There is also the possibility that Mr. Gray knows about the whole situation and has advised the DeGroots to temporarily remain stay out of it. This could be a test to see if Les has grown into a more responsible young adult or if he will follow in his mother’s footsteps. I do believe Greg is going to give his readers some unexpected shocker plot twist.
This whole last week or so has made my head spin. I am to the point where I just want it to end like…“And they lived happily ever after!”. However, it is not up to us to determine just who “they” might be!!
In a world, now, where Les is more, Tiffany Knox Ann out of the park…Even if Annie Awful has Tiff’s Phone, she didn’t shut it off..and the whole thing has been uploaded to the cloud…
Say “Goodnight, Gracie.” Or maybe, “Bye, Felicia.”
I’m loving the new, improved Tiff. Taking on her nemesis, while playing it really cool all the way. Look forward to see her grow further as a person. And Ann, it looks like it’s the end of the road for you, my dear. Will miss your scheming presence (sniff)…
I love how Tiffany went from villainous bitch to supporting heroine. She’s been dealing one heavy blow to Ann after another and been using her connections for good (She didn’t have to get the girl’s money back and kept it personal, but she made it her mission anyway). Same for Les. He coulda came to Ann’s rescue at ANY point, but didn’t. He’s still got some kinks to work out, but I think he’s well on his way!
You go Tiff! What I find oddly interesting is that it took Tiff’s revelation that she is Mr. Farrell’s daughter to stop Ann’s momentum…. DEAD! Now grab your phone back, Tiff, and finish her off!
Les’ reaction is quite interesting. If he really wants to pursue Tiff, it’s to his advantage for him to support Tiff’s efforts to break up Ann and Mr. Farrell. If Ann/Mr. Farrell were, actually, to “get married,” then Tiff and Les would be “affinity related” and, perhaps, subject to various state “incest” laws, as a result… (In NJ, for example, people who are related "by blood or affinity to the 3rd degree – read: 3rd cousins- cannot marry or “procreate”). Affinity meaning “in laws, etc.”
Tiffany (later, in the parking lot): "With these powers, I could become… a super hero! I could fight crime – help the poor – WORK FOR WORLD PEACE! (But first… )
I’d like to see Ann go to storm out the door, only to find her brother (?) Mr. Gray standing there with the police. He’s a guy who “knows things”, so I wouldn’t be surprised to find that he’s installed video surveillance in the club.
Many of Us have been having fun this week speculating on the outcome of this Epic Battle, especially this Evil Old Currently Non-COFFEE Drinker.
But as We reach the Climax of this Struggle, We should ask Ourselves, What if by some Miracle, Ann “Wins” by the end of the week?
I say this because I’m getting the uneasy feeling that what We are about to witness will be akin to the 2016 Presidential Election where “everyone” knew who the clear winner was, only to end up staring at their flats Screens in Stunned Disbelief.
The Bad News is, Failure will put Tiffany on the express elevator to Rock Bottom. Even worse, IMHO, it’ll drive a tearful Tiffany right into the waiting arms of one Les Knox, who, like Gunther, will see a side of Tiffany she doesn’t show others. And as much as I disapprove of the Thugs very existence, if Les truly cares, He won’t let her drive home by herself. In fact he should drive her over to the Bergers where Irma could comfort her. Of course knowing Les, He’ll drive Tiff to Her dorm room and attempt to spend the night.
Look, I Like Tiffany and I hope Her Victory is Complete and Decisive this week. But I’m getting that “Old Feeling”…….,
This quest began in (at?) panel #2 on January 18th. It has now lasted longer than Noah’s flood. Where, oh where, is the dove of peace with the olive branch.
Episode 42: Ann now says “Oh Tiffany, your dad and I are so in love. I was just doing this to make enough to pay for my wedding gown. I swear I will amend my ways out of love for your father. Will you be my maid of honor?”
Today’s panels culminate with a wonderfully richly drawn look of surprise on Ann’s face. I have to state again how much I appreciate the craft and the care that Greg does in his artistry here! I have stated before how (for me) it has been interesting to see how Greg has changed and shaped his drawing style of the Luann comic over the decades, and I have said many times that the spare, very clean style that is his current method is indeed my favorite. I think it has a very “modern” feel and is also incredibly expressive even though the lines drawn are fairly “simple”. I will pose thoughts and questions about the story a bit later.
For those who are speculating that Ann is Tiffany’s mother, I thought a shark had been jumped when it came out that Tiffany’s father was dating Ann to begin with. Having Ann turn into the long-lost mother would be a whole sea of sharks, just too far of a jump. I think the more realistic outcome is that Ann either overlooked any pix of Tiffany at her father’s house (Ann is the ultimate in self-absorption), or Mr. Farrell never brought her to his house.
….
I never thought I’d see Ann totally speechless, so I’m real entertained by her expression in that last frame. And I don’t see Ann, ever, as an underdog in need of sympathy. She bullied employees who worked for her. Bullies deserve payment in kind.
I wish Tiffany had not brought her father into this. She can reveal Ann’s sleazy dishonest side to him. But ultimately he will make his own decision as to whether or not he wants to continue the relationship. Tiff can’t decide that for him. She has sufficient ammunition to disable Ann’s business operation without the Dad factor. Bringing her dad into the equation suggests that the driving force for it all is to get her Dad to pay more attention to her (like old times) as opposed to helping out her (new) friends.
Where are the cops? Counterfeiting a trade marked item is a crime. I watched as several cops raided a flea market and arrested a guy selling knockoff shoes
Way-out theory #53: Ann looks so go smacked on the last frame because she is – as others have speculated – Tiffany’s mother, AND she realizes that her son Les has, unknowingly, been hitting on his TWIN SISTER.
Ann should remember the rule…when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. I would love to see this end with Ann in a police interview room, but that probably won’t happen.
I can’t imagine Tiffany’s Dad, whether a successful businessman or whatever else has made him financially successful, would tolerate a partner like Ann.
Because a man is successful and rich does not mean he’s immune to the charms of an Ann, particularly if she’s as clever and manipulative as this one.It’ll be interesting to see if the revelation about her makes any difference tohim. A really smart man would cut and run, but then, who knows about this one. He’s not obviously a great father, so he may also be a jerk.
1) Obviously Ann’s initial reaction is to be taken aback by the revelation.
2) But, this DOES NOT mean Ann is defeated yet.
3) People have contemplated that she is already married to Mr. Farrell… I think it is possible…. but I think the likelihood is quite low. But…. if that is how Greg does draw the story….. WOW. That will result in pure chaos.
4) I am assuming that Mr. Farrell must somehow know Simone and Souffle Lingerie (SL)…. since Tiffany does as a rather young adult. So, I keep thinking that he must have some “business doings” with SL…. or he has had enough romantic trysts over the years that he bought SL for that he is on a first-name basis with the SL owner.
5) If it does happen that he is well known by and acquainted with SL, I think there is still a small possibility that he made a deal with SL to sell some SL “seconds” or some such…. which would then give Ann a potential “out”.
6) If Ann is somehow “safe”….. then it is going to be a really crazy ride here as Ann and Tiffany “duke it out” over Mr. Farrell’s attentions. From the fairly “absentee father” feeling I get from the scant knowledge we have on Mr. Farrell, I fear Ann has a fighting chance to win out over Tiffany.
A common and VERY typical ‘last-ditch’ move of one who is known as a scoundrel. Either to play on the others’ sympathies, or implicate others to try and to get out of a jam. Much like a gangster saying, “I’m not goin’ down ALONE, SEE??!!”
Tiff just played the trump card – but the game is not over yet.Sorry, Tiff and Les are NOT siblings. Ann would have made that apparent long ago. No, I think Tiff is “wired” and the police are outside waiting for the right moment to move in and make an arrest.Let the game continue, Greg – we are all on pins and needles!
Heh… it just occurred to me that it may have been a good thing Tiff got plenty of “showdown” practice in the Bernice/Piro affair not too long ago..! :D
I think the evidence for my thought is: Tiffany apparently has spent so little time with her father that Eiffell hasn’t met her. That doesn’t suggest a relationship close enough to guarantee Farrell would dump Eiffel.
I feel confident Eiffell will not go to jail, because that would remove this strip’s deadliest and most popular villain. I mean, its sole villain and most despised villain.
I know better than to try to out guess Greg, but Tiff has been hitting Ann all week and I feel like one those bombs is going to hit a trampoline and bounce right back at Tiff.
Another small detail forgotten, Tiffany was talking to Simone when Ann swiped the phone away.Simone is probably hearing the whole conversation, and may have already contacted Tiffany’s dad and proper authoritiesI also wouldn’t be surprised if Simone was Tiffany’s birth mother.As stated earlier, Mr grey probably has surveillance cameras around and is waiting outside already.
Ann has been out-played by the Tiffster at every turn, so far. Unless there is a Big Reversal in store, the war has been over for some time now; Eiffel just hasn’t realized it yet.
@Vilyehm I think I agree with Mordy on this one. Why not an “off panel” complication – one which Tiffany had no idea was coming? //
If I had a complaint right now, it would be a lot like John Grisham ’s the Whistler: Once the plan was set into motion, nothing went wrong!Which translated into no suspense bordering on no story!
(My spacing. More scrolling via phone, but looks nicer on computer.)
~~~~~~
The something has to go wrong to make it interesting prediction:
Thursday: Single panel as Tiffany and Les look on Ann has her head thrown back in a full blown laugh.
Friday they ask.
… and on Saturday, the “Hun” continues,
“Hun, your DAD is my financial backer.”
~~~~~~
And off we go for another few weeks.
(It will take a full week to find out dad thought Ann had a legitimate business.)
All credit card payments go into a joint account.
Ann now bluffs (or boasts) that if she goes down, she will take “Daddy” with her.
….and it would be sooooo much fun if Simone is still listening in on the ever mandatory cliché villain’s plan is working boast that does them in.
Just a thought. Tiffany is holding her hand up by her ear and saying, “Listening”. Does that mean she is wearing a bluetooth and Daddy is hearing everything?

Way-out theory #53: Ann looks so go smacked on the last frame because she is – as others have speculated – Tiffany’s mother, AND she realizes that her son Les has, unknowingly, been hitting on his TWIN SISTER.

Ann should remember the rule…when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. I would love to see this end with Ann in a police interview room, but that probably won’t happen.
I can’t imagine Tiffany’s Dad, whether a successful businessman or whatever else has made him financially successful, would tolerate a partner like Ann.

Sorry Tiffany, this doesn’t mean that your father will stop dating Ann

Because a man is successful and rich does not mean he’s immune to the charms of an Ann, particularly if she’s as clever and manipulative as this one.It’ll be interesting to see if the revelation about her makes any difference tohim. A really smart man would cut and run, but then, who knows about this one. He’s not obviously a great father, so he may also be a jerk.

So….. my thoughts about what may transpire:

“… trying to drag my son into this …”
A common and VERY typical ‘last-ditch’ move of one who is known as a scoundrel.

Considering how close Tiffany is to Simone, Tiff’s dad would NOT like to hear that Ann was trying to scam the name brand. Just my thoughts.

Tiffany assumes her father would stop seeing Eiffel after learning of her evil crimes. What if Tiffany assumed wrong?
Annie K. over 6 years ago

Tiffany seems to instinctively get people like Ann, or she saw them growing up.

Maybe 400 comments by the end of the day. And when Ann first showed up – 600+ comments. Yet some of you want Ann to grow old in the slammer.

Talk to the hand!
Ann has been out-played by the Tiffster at every turn, so far. Unless there is a Big Reversal in store, the war has been over for some time now; Eiffel just hasn’t realized it yet.

Gotta keep Legalize_Gweedo happy.
@Vilyehm I think I agree with Mordy on this one. Why not an “off panel” complication – one which Tiffany had no idea was coming? //
If I had a complaint right now, it would be a lot like John Grisham ’s the Whistler: Once the plan was set into motion, nothing went wrong!Which translated into no suspense bordering on no story!(My spacing. More scrolling via phone, but looks nicer on computer.)
~~~~~~
The something has to go wrong to make it interesting prediction:
Thursday: Single panel as Tiffany and Les look on Ann has her head thrown back in a full blown laugh.
Friday they ask.
… and on Saturday, the “Hun” continues,
“Hun, your DAD is my financial backer.”
~~~~~~
