Tiffany seems awfully possessive of an item that she has no use for and was never her property anyway. Les should remind her that she’s not doing him some kind of favor by giving him back something he loaned her in the first place. He’s perfectly entitled to ask for it back for whatever reason he chooses. She reminds me of former friends of mine who borrowed money from me and then acted like I was asking the world when I wanted it paid back.
Everyone can see that there is an electric current that passes between them as they both touch the guest list together in Panel 2 that results in the background changing color briefly to pink. This is because:
1. They have switched bodies Freaky Friday style.
2. They were frozen in time so long that a painter came and repainted the wall pink and then repainted it blue again.
3. It got so hot inside the dormitory room that Tiffany’s collection of pink makeup exploded and made a mess on the wall.
4. Symbolism my sisters. Nothing but symbolism.
5. The story was so dull that the colorist dozed off in the second panel.
All about the parents. How it will turn out we may find next week. Which way? Tiffany’s, Les’s?. A third, or fourth way? Romance? Not likely, yet. Les has too much rage. He needs to deal with that, but he is not ready. She really shows a great deal of sympathy and empathy though, a whole different side of Tiffany.
Yeah, Tiffany ain’t quite ready to let go just yet. She’s big on words but not much in action yet. Will Les take advantage and incite her to join him or support her and walk away?
@SAR: Les is still furiously angry, and Tiffany seems unwilling to let go of what isn’t hers to begin with. What the h-e-XX good would it do for her to kiss him?
You know one going to bed comment apropos of nothing, but Les when he was introduced in high school, he wore black, had basically the same long black hair (would have been a DA back in the day), and was drawn as a bad boy of course, but he also seemed bigger physically that the other characters, other than of course when Ox came along. You don’t mess with Ox. Now if you notice he is the same size as the other characters, no longer intimidating in size. He is the same height as Tiffany, who might be wearing heels, but short heels, not the stiletto types. They are the same height, and he is not big and bad, plus his pants are not black. I think he is drawn differently to reflect that while he still has the rage, he is getting better and is not a bully anymore. Anyone else notice this change?
@ VILYEHM Now I’m surprised a sophisticated connoisseur of online comic strips such as you (am I laying it down thick enough?) would post a comment about panel colors literally functioning as the background wall color. Sometimes there’s a changeup in color simply to inject a small amount of interest into the overall strip composition. Other times to emphasize a pregnant pause or other emotional staccato moment. OR – as is often the case – my cat woke me up, I couldn’t get back to sleep, and the pattern of lumps in his litter box tell me what to do. Sort of a feline tarot card process.Arbitrary color changing is something I call chroma pacing. Between two syndicates I color nine strips, which is the maximum I can handle on top of my other work. Some get more consideration than others with respect to this level of thought. It depends on style of the drawing determining if it is “color friendly” or not, the depth of the writing, my mood, how close it is to deadline, or the quality of the cartoonist’s bribe. It certainly isn’t the monetary pay.
Every week I get a shipment of world class prosciutto and other deli niceties from Southern California. It is my conclusion that Luann is affiliated with another kind of syndicate, a most persuasive one. Luann thus receives “extra attention” lest an unfortunate accident be visited upon my modest studio.
Good morning, everyone. May Monday’s installment keep you happy regardless of whether there is more or less of Les.
@ SHERIFF MORDECAI: I’m surprised that you, an apparently sophisticated conniseur of comic strip commenters, haven’t picked up on the fact that @ VILLYEM sometimes posts just for the sake of posting. All sound and keystrokes, signifying very little. Just sometimes, though… the trick is to figure which posts represent his thoughts and which are mere finger exercises. Or not
Anyhow, thank you for the behind-the-cents glimpses!
Hmm… I wonder how hard it would be to figure out which strips the Sheriff colors…?
There is a lot of expression in Tiffany’s face if you are aware all of the events and emotions leading up to this “moment”. If not, she’s just a pretty face being conned by a rat faced creep.
Why is Tiffany not letting go of that List? As others have said,
1) It’s not Her’s anyway.
2) Since she’s given up, what good does it do hang on to it?
A momento of her failed attempt in taking down Ann Eiffel? Nah.
Does Tiff really want Les to let go of His issues with his Mom, Ann? I don’t think so. Tiffany’s not really hanging on to that list today. She hanging on to Les. She doesn’t want to Les go. Hey, Remember this one?
https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2017/6/2
Panel #3 – Bad Boys needing love and attention. And I think Les is about to get it from Tiff, whether he WANTS it or not. That’s Where a “kiss” would come in? What would soothe the “savage beast” in Les? Tiffany suddenly, unexpectedly kissing Him. (Sorry ARGY) If this were a Romantic Comedy Movie, I’d say next week We would be treated to a scene of:
(Panel 1) Tiffany giving Les an Unexpected long passionate kiss.
(Panel 2) The list dropping to the floor.
(Panel 3) Gunther rounding the corner and being startled at what he sees.
Or You can substitute Bernice for Gunther. But Gunther getting stunned would have MORE of an impact and send a clear message from G&K to Gunther’s fan base of four: “Gunther and Tiffany? Ain’t Happening. Not with out Gunther Suffering. Not without Les getting there first.”
There’s a reason why this drama is now taking place in the hallway where it can be seen.
And I hope I’m dead WRONG about ALL of the above. Especially the “Kissing” part. Oh Wait. The Limb Just Cracked……..,
@VILYEHM and SACTOSYLVIA All in good fun. I’m a harmless practitioner. VILYEHM was chosen for his reliability and frequency in replying. I know wink-wink-nudge-nudge when I see it. It goes both ways. happy face here.
Ann committed fraud. She really does need to be punished. Legally and publicly. Personally, I’d use a two-prong approach. 1. Send some of the knock offs to the real maker of that lingerie. Once she sees that real thing she will realize Tiffany wasn’t making it up. 2. Notify the customers on the guest list.
I could see yesterday’s episode as an arc ending cliff hanger. But today is more of a cliff dweller. It’s not a good place to cut away to a different arc. Just can’t “let go” yet.
Aggggghhh – I really hope that her reluctance to “let go” of the list means she’s hesitant to let go of Les. She really needs to do that. I hope that’s just GnK messing with us (taking a pun on the “let go” theme).
I hope the thread continues into next week. And I hope we get to see Gunther & Tiff together.
It might be good for Luann fans to review the dinner and aftermath arc from 5/30/2017 to 6/6/2017 and try to figure where GnK is going now. I can’t figure it… not a clue. It’s interesting to me that the Tiffany with Gunther arcs from 2017 would generate upwards of 300 comments. Not so much with Les… so far.
I’m really disappointed where GnK is taking the Tiffany character. She appears still to be pursuing her father-imago. A person that gives things rather than affection. Les may be evolving as MORDECAI pointed out, but he hasn’t exhibited the caring traits of say, Gunther. In so many ways, Les is the anti-Gunther.
I must say that my seemingly unbounded liking for the Tiffany character has taken a few hits since Fogerty. :o(
I’ve never seen Tiff much as a control freak, so i don’t know what becoming more passive by focusing on letting it go will do for her. It would seem to be wiser for her to at least go explore her own interests on daddys dime. Also, it is super weird to me (& makes me think shes more comptitive than anything) that she hasn’t tried either going for broke with dads cash or making some cash starting as buisness. Assuming money is he only thing he cares about it would seem to get his attention. Instead she just keeps reacting to circumstances given to her (a competitive trait) rather then taking an active role in her life direction.
Mordy and others. Just reviewed the 29-May-17 strips, of the infamous dinner party, and a couple of things:
One, our precious Tiff was already teasing her friend, Gunther.
Two, especially 03-Jun-17, I really can’t see any other interpretation of that as anything other than Les and Tiffany on a neon sign as big as anything found in Las Vegas!
@ VILYEHMAfter revisiting the earlier posts I see I did inadvertently attach your name to the coloring comment. But my reply was meant to be tongue-in-cheek as far as attitude goes. I try to explain how and why color choices are made from time to time because I certainly can’t discuss what I know is coming. Years ago I dropped hints, but no more.
Wouldn’t it be funny if Tiffany gets a call back from the designer owner of the company following up. Tiffany explains about the shows and sales of counterfeit garments by Ann. The owner asks, “Would you like to be a summer intern? I have an executive going to various nations to speak about us looking at selling within those countries, and one is the U.S.” Then the announcement winds up on tv with the added info that the company has never before sold their lingerie in the U.S. and Ann is besieged by angry customers.
We could have a Sunday Surprise: Instead of the usual stand alone comic, we could see (1) they’re still both tugging on the list; (2) Tiff looks into his eyes and says, “Are you afraid of me, Les?” (3) Tiff takes his hand and leads him back to her room – the guest list is on the hallway floor. After that, of course a new arc. Later on, Gunther would have to endure a roommate with a girlfriend. Maybe Rosa could show up to save the day…

And there is nothing to say that a relationship between Jonah and Tara would result, because Jonah is still so intent on his career he has no real time for relationships…
@SUKIECRANDAL: Your idea is great and would be a good solution to two problems (what Tiffany should do next, since she doesn’t want to just keep trying to win her father’s attention, and how to bring Ann Awful to justice). But because this is a really logical next step, it will probably not be what happens…

I still find is somewhat unbelievable that Tiff and Les would find the idea of a romantic relationship attractive, given the hookup of their respective parents. :o/
Tiffany is finally maturing. if she can do well in school and get a grip on her many issues she could be everything she wants to be. But a relationship with Les the weasel cannot be good for her.

I had no idea he was that much of a hoodlum!
Can Les “reform”? Of course and, if so, I’m all for it!
But I have always said that it would, it should, take time. Lots and lots of precious time! (Apologies to George Harrison)
But as of the above June 2014 strips, methinks Les needs much, much more time than I previously thought!
Run, Tiffany, run! Run for your life! While you still can!
