So G&K go for backsliding.

Tiffany needs a personality undelineated by makeup or weight.

I can see the need for new eye shadow. That stuff she was wearing ran all over the place when she was crying.

At least Tiffany may have to awaken her reasoning facilities.

Same amount of makeup on half the money.

So… is this the old Tiffany returning, or a new and improved model?

New hairstyle or GTFO. She’s had that helmet hair for as long as she’s been in the strip (and even all the way back to the third grade in her first chronological appearance); there’s no way a supposedly fashionable girl would keep the same hairdo for a solid decade, much less the same style from when she was a small child. Time for Evans to find a way to make her recognizable besides the hair. Personally I’d like to see her rock the undercut, like Scarlett Johansson has been doing lately.

Though on a more positive note: it looks like Mrs Fogarty is acting halfway competent today! I guess she doesn’t want to lose her only paying client.

The hallway bulletin board looks messy enough to be a school bulletin board.

How about some tough love, Bernice?

Make Star Trek night a makeup free zone.

Ah, the Tiffany we all know and love, very happy and self-involved with how she looks is back, although I never thought she has left. I also defend her to those who thinks she is shallow; she is not really shallow, she has really gone through a lot of soul-searching in the last long set of arcs, starting I might remind with Gunther basically getting her to question herself (and not a mean reason I hasten to add). With Tiffany it’s her actions more than anything else, that determines the level of change she shows. I think she will show that she can think besides her eyebrows.

The world is over “pouty pink”.

Oooh, what will the new Tiff look like? She already had one makeover!

Yesterday Tiff took two steps forward and Today she falls back into that same narcissistic person.

Uh-oh. I am seeing the old Tiffany. Once she got over the fact that his dad won’t listen to her and she’s lost him, she reverts to her old self. She will become determined to lose all the weight so she could wear her old clothes – nah, she’s likely to go on a shopping spree, this time, more carefully since her dad cut off her allowance in half. Gunther, Luann and Bernice will be disappointed to see the old Tiffany back. They started to like her. Oh well, I guess G & K decided they like the old version better. Another arc where they revert to the old – first Fay replacing the tween Luann to continue the tween arcs and now Tiffany back to the old. What next? Toni back to her insecure self? Shannon back to her brattier version?

Counsel as you will, but you can’t take the “Tiffany” out of Tiffany.

LOL, Fogarty got so caught up in the moment that she actually thought she put Tiff on the right track. Life Goal Guide, Personality Workbook, Self H… …Yes! New … huh? wait…, new eye shadow??, zawk, sploot, poof…

Like I mentioned yesterday, while Fogarty was playing “little note pad, big note pad, eenie meenie miney mo”, Tiffany was coming to her own realization of what she needed to do. I could be wrong, but I think Greg had two things going on in this arc – showing Tiffany has become strong enough to where she determined on her own the course of action she would have to take, and showing Phelps – Fogarty in her usual light. After all these years, did anyone think for a minute that Greg was really ever going to have Phelps – Fogarty be anything but a ineffective nincompoop? No “magic slate” with the change of the last name.

Tiff, step one of your remake: Stop trying to seduce your Daddy. I know you think that’s the only way to get his attention—and you may very well be right—but in fact you are flagging yourself as over-the-line toxic. Step two: stop trying to seduce other men into being replacement daddies. Only dangerously toxic men would want to even try out for the part.

What you want is a daddy you can control, but that is contrary to the nature of a healthy daddy/daughter relationship.

What you need is a husband—a very different relationship, one in which “control” takes a distant back seat to “cooperation”

@50SREFUGEE: Tiffany needs neither a new daddy figure nor a husband at this point. She needs to recreate herself into a person who recognizes she has worth (even without attention from a daddy or from someone who admires her makeup more than anything else about her.) But I figure I’ll be disappointed; the old appearance-driven Tiffany will emerge from her brief epiphany and the chance for her to plan a future in line with her dreams of stardom will vanish. Oh, well. On to the next arc…

Btw Tiff, get rid of the helmet hair please. It’s time for a makeover. Use Toni as an idea of what you should do with your looks. She’s simple and drop dead gorgeous. Little makeup and NO helmet hair.

A new arc: “How Tiffany Got Her Groove Back”. LOL. New makeup, new hair….it will give her confidence to move forward.

“Meet the New Tiff! Same as the Old Tiff?”

I dunno, My Dear brothers and sisters. Something coming. And whatever “it” is, I got a bad feeling.

She is back!

When an acountant wants to ‘fix’ their life, they go:

“I’m gonna have to do a self-audit!”….

When a firefighter wants to make changes, they go:

“There are too many people who think they’re hot stuff, in my life. I need to put them all out!”.

“I need to run a diagmostic, here. Lots of broken relationships…and they’re gonna need some work…”

“I don’t want my life going down the toilet!”

“Well, left to their own devices, some people are ‘hard wired’ for failure, I guess. But I need to learn that ‘you can’t be shocked by the results, if you’re well grounded’!”

“I need to start fresh! No more ‘Pouty Pink’ for me! I need to start building with a new ‘foundation’!….I need to stop ‘glossing over’ my problems! No more ‘Feeling Blue’ for me….it will no longer be a part of my ‘pallette’! From now on, only ‘Solid Gold. …or maybe, maybe…maybe something else. ….And I need to stop wasting mascara for people who don’t match my ensemble!”

It’s about to get heavy.

Well, that’s more like the old Tiff! That’s a good thing but, hopefully, with a drive to confront and resolve these issues with her dad. At least, I hope she finishes her college education (or negotiates that with her dad), and then she can go from there. And, I hope, she brings Gunther along with her.

Okay, Tiffany, let’s show ‘em. Stand tall, stand confident, stand beautiful……..just don’t do anything to cut daddy’s financial umbilical cord.

They’re not exactly on the same page. Maybe not even the same book.

She’s on her way back

Tiff, forget about clothes and makeup. Just focus on being more assertive if you want to win your dad back.

Mrs. Fog’s makeup kit is buried in the attic somewhere.

Actually today’s strip is far more realistic than if Tiffany magically became indifferent to makeup and clothing. I suspect her eventual career will be in that area. So this is not backsliding really. Backsliding would be to believe that she can change her father, rather than working on herself.

GnC cleverly reaches back into their cast of characters to move Tiff, almost magically, out of her not OK life position. This is a classic example of deus ex machina ; a phrase that has generated some interest here.

Tiff was in a crisis, her self-worth and confidence at the lowest in Luannverse history. All intervention attempts to revive her failed; those by her friends, potential romantic interests (Gunther), even her own attempt via the bravado Eiffel confrontation. A hopeless situation, indeed.

So poof! Out pops the surprise deus in the form of Mrs. Fogerty (The Goddess of Counseling), a character not seen in years and one long forgotten. She is delivered ex machina, from the old school counselor’s office into private counseling. And, almost magically, Tiff is finally cured. WOW!

Of course we’ll have to see how potent a deus Mrs. Fogerty is/has been in putting Tiff on a better track.

As I opined several days ago. GnC have plans for the Tiff character. We are apparently on our way. I hope they include my favorite guy, Gunther. :o)

at least baby steps are something.

A good therapist does not try to answer the problems for the client.

Tiffany is going through self-discovery and becoming an adult. That takes years and their are individual paths. She is making more progress than some other characters in this strip.

“That’s a good start I look forward to hearing what else you are doing to get rid of the pout,” might have been a good response.

P.S. I would love for Tiffany to help Foggerty with a make over. Wouldn’t that take someone out of her comfort zone.

Aaannnnddd, she’s back!

Tiff only thinks ‘short term"… real short term. hopefully Mrs. F can change that. We’re back to the shallow. what about star trek marathons? are they out of the picture?

Baby steps, Mrs. Fogarty… Baby steps…

The divergence of comment this week has been puzzling. We hear that Mrs. Fogarty is incapable of character development because she has “always been” this way. And in the same breath we hear about Tiffany’s character development, in spite of her having “always been” this way. So I was rooting for Fogarty having become a more effective counselor over the passage of time. But today’s strip basically shot all that down. Counting workbooks on her fingers? Her lack of dimension seems glaring next to the layers of Tiffany’s personality.

Tiff looked great without makeup when she came out of the shower, and she and Gunther had their “moment.” But if wearing makeup makes her feel better, then go for it, and take Fay along for the trip. Not everybody has to look like Bernice or Margo Phelps-Fogarty. Create the illusion you want, Lady Gaga sure did.

I consider it a Hopeful Sign that Tiffany is once again concerned about her appearance!

I’ll predict that monday Tiff walks into Mrs. Fogarty’s office looking totally different. I wonder what that might be.

Whew! Thank goodness the Trufans can go back to looking down on Tiffany! That was a close one!

Tiffany’s hair is once again much wider than her shoulders.

This comic strip, PLUS the comments, should be required reading for every student taking a psych course. The comments show more about the reader than about the strip. For sure!
