When my daughter was very young, sometimes she would sneak into bed with us. She would be moving all night long, at least it seemed like it. Head at the top, feet at the top, then, lying crossways. Like sleeping with a running helicopter in your bed.
I remember this situation exactly from the few occasions when we were traveling and I had share a bed with one of my kids. My son was a whirling dervish when sleeping and it was not uncommon to wake up with his foot in my face.
In the first panel, the number 17 is missing on the shirt Shannon has on loan from Brad. Luckily, she found the numbers before Brad saw it the next morning.
Take a close look at Toni in panel #3. You are seeing what she will look like in 25-30 years. Time can be cruel to the super-attractive minority as they gradually degrade to look like the rest of us… ;-)
OK. Enough of this. It gets old after 3 days! I quit feeling sorry for Shannon long ago after her father all but abandoned her. He’s the biggest drag on this whole comic.
Folks, this just might be the lead in to their talk to give TJ the boot and give his room to Shannon so everyone could have a good sleep. Or if Toni still feels her niece needs to sleep with her, turn TJ’s room into a guest room for Brad for when Shannon stays overnight til she is old enough to sleep unsupervised. Might be a turnaround for their marriage – no roommate.
They should have concocted a place in the living room for Shannon…telling her she is “camping out”. Blanket over chairs, maybe a sleeping bag! I’ll bet she would have enjoyed this. We did stuff like this as kids.
OK, for all that lament the continuance of this arc, be sure to review the Sunday (yesterday 06/24) strip. Brad/Toni are looking to buy a new house. So I think this week’s arc will be about how they initiate that process and whether or not Shannon is a factor in the decision and how. I’m all for it. We’ll see if they account for Shannon, and/or TJ. That should be an interesting discussion.
People are confusing this particular arc with the Sunday strip. While I think they are all Brad and Toni, and their plans to get a house, and possibly to soon have a pregnancy (sex a lot, as young couples do, hint, hint) this arc is not related directly to the Sunday strip. I think it has everything to do with Shannon, her dad possibly, and dealing with the bundle of energy she happens to be. It’s difficult to figure where this is going, but I think it’s something that few of us have a bead on. This is a classic Evans misdirection play.
This year, she showed up on 06/19/2018. Funny how Shannon’s “Summer Visits” are almost always at the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season! That means we can TRACK Her and Predict Her arrival, next June!
So, You guys stock up on can goods and gas the cars while I plot evacuation routes and stock up on COFFEE!
Oh by the way. For those who thought Brad’s couch shrunk? Nope, SAME couch.
Welcome to a reasonably appropriate fascimile of parenthood, Toni & Brad. If & when you have kids, you will look and feel like you do in panel 3 for a lot of the mornings during the early years (first 5-8 years… or until the youngest is 5-8).
You will get used to it, and you will find many ways to make it work, and it will be wonderful.
Maybe the point of showing Shannon spilling her chocolate milk all over herself in the back seat of her father’s car was to show that she can’t be left alone, but, if that’s the case, it wouldn’t do Brad and Toni any good to find a new home with another bedroom. Toni would still have to sleep in the same room as Shannon. This makes no sense to me. Yeah, I know, I haven’t raised kids, but I was one, and have a brother and sister. While younger bro and I shared a room till our parents could afford to move from a 2-bedroom to 3-bedroom apartment, we all ended up eventually in our own (tiny, but our own) rooms alone at night. And we were younger than Shannon is now. So I don’t get the logic of this, either…
So, two fully employed, pretty intelligent fire fighters, have no crushing student debts, making enough to start putting away money for a house, and they can’t afford a little inflatable mattress, or a kids’ bed for their little angel ??? Toni, Brad, wake up! And invest in some sleep, or Shannon’s gonna eat you alive! … But that’s half the fun…!
Jonah is really more of a kid himself than an adult; he probably doesn’t really set any rules or boundaries for Shannon. He’s always promising her things like trips to a pool, and then announcing that her Aunt Toni is taking her. Many posters here portray him as dedicated to supporting his family by succeeding in a career, but he doesn’t appear able to hold onto a gig for very long. (Suggesting that he may be the only one who thinks he has acting talent). On the other hand, while he counts on Toni to take care of Shannon, he would probably not approve of Toni setting boundaries and rules. He would say that’s his job, but from the way Shannon acts, he has not done it. Shannon is crazy about him, but probably doesn’t see him as an authority figure. More as someone to play with…
Whew, ths strip makes me sooo happy that I no longer have little munchkins at home, just the occasional grand baby that I ove dearly and this doesn’t bother me. But my gosh, this one brings back the memories of days gone by that I’m glad not to live lover again. LOL
I can still recall baby sitting for one nephew and I still regret it. “Estranged” can be such a beautiful word when it comes to in-laws. Shannon is a brat and anyone who says she isn’t, is a liar.

On the to-do list for today, buy Shannon a sleeping bag & tent with her favorite cartoon character and set it up in the living room.

Twelve more years of this – and then Shannon will run off and then come home pregnant.

And we now know that Brad and Toni live in a house that is not a square, and has an east facing picture window.
Which, of course, can change by tomorrow .
