Actually ladies, the two of you have no one to ‘blame’ but yourselves, for being “boyfriendless.” But look on the Brightside. Your arch nemesis Tiffany is practically THROWING herself at guys and she STILL doesn’t have a boyfriend either. Yet.
But of course, maybe You two don’t “Want” a guy in your life at this time. All well and good. But on the other hand, maybe you DO.
And “IF” you do, has it ever occur to You lovely ladies that maybe, just MAYBE, you’re going about this “Boyfriend Thing” all Wrong?
Luann, you need to showcase yourself better. Your girl-next-door vibe only send “pal” message to the guys. Look at your shirt. Fake collar with two stripes on sleeves? That is so middle school. You need a new wardrobe.
Luann wants a boyfriend more than anything at school. That can change for some people – but there’s not much of a hint that it will for Luann at this point.
@kenhense: I don’t think you and I are reading the same ‘toon. Are you reading ’Luann Againn’? Because that’s where I see Luann stuck in the forever circle of boyfriend-boyfriend-boyfriend. I see this Luann as someone who is trying to figure out other aspects of her life. Like a possible career, since she discussed possible careers that Jack might follow with him…
@JOEPETTY: You should Google ‘Debby Downer’ if you think that someone telling someone else that they aren’t boyfriend-girlfriend is being a ‘Debby Downer’. Or maybe look in the mirror the next time you accuse someone of being a ‘Debby Downer’, since you seem to be doing a good job of that your own charmschool self.
The amazing thing about posters here: when Luann was obsessing about boyfriends, they waa-waaed about how the ‘toon was going back to high school. Now that she’s telling Bernice that she’s just pals with someone, and she’s actually telling the guy about careers he might follow instead of swooning and throwing herself at him, all the posters her are telling her how to fix herself up better so guys will get interested. Make up your minds. Do you want to read about a high school kid trying to catch a boyfriend? Go read Luann Againn.
I’m not sure why Bernice wants another table. Luann didn’t insult her. She gives a pretty normal response to Bernice’s belief that she was dating Jack. “Like you, I don’t have a boyfriend.” What’s wrong with that?
I’m probably one of the few people who thought that Quill was a good match with Luann, though my initial opinion was Quill would have been better with Delta.
I’m also of the opinion that Luann mistreated Quill awfully, given that his career as an actor.
Just date a guy Merely-To-Enjoy-His-Company. Don’t Kiss, Don’t Hand-Hold, Don’t Snuggle. Don’t fall in love. Just find something the two of you like doing together, and go out and just DO IT. Dinner, Bowling, Movies, Dances, Club Hopping, Dog Parks, Salamander Catching, Snipe Hunting, Beating People’s Mailboxes in with a Baseball Bat in the Middle of the Night, Doing ‘Donuts’ on Their carefully Manicured Front Lawns, You name it. (Just make SURE the Guy picks Up the Tab) There are several guys in Strip to choose from. ONE in particular that You Two have BOTH dated, and who has a proven track record. But I Digress.
Don’t Compete. Go out and have FUN. And Date More than one Guy. Get to Know THEM and They You. Tiffany USED to do that all the time in High School, and Her HEAD was on much straighter THEN, than it is NOW.
The Same thing holds True for the Guys when it comes to the Gals. ESPECIALLY for the Guys. Find a young woman in this Strip and date Her. Date Several Young Women. Jack does, and He’s a happy guy.
No Where Is it written that You have to be in “Love with Someone” to DATE them.
[DAILY RANT OUT]
PS: The Introduction of NEW Characters would also help in the dating process. Or putting Tara and Piro MORE into “Play.”
Gotta say, Luann could have been a little more compassionate in her phrasing. No, there’s nothing inherently wrong with being alone, but even when one is, they may not want to be reminded of it by someone else’s blunt observation. Luann isn’t interested in Jack romantically, and Bernice didn’t feel sparks from Piro. Fine, acknowledge that – just be tactful about it.
Hmm. In terms of today’s comic… I see nothing wrong with (approximetly) 20-year old Luann or Bernice being “boyfriendless” at the moment. I think they have plenty of time to have, develop, and commit to relationships. It does not have to be immediate, nor does it have to be permanent or consistent. The average age of marriage is now around 27 for women and 29 for men. So…. IMO…. being NOT currently in a relationship at 20…. no big deal.
One thing that I am hopeful about (but it may turn out to only be a pipe dream) is that Luann’s comment about Bernice being “boyfriendless” may actually be a segue into having next week be where Bernice talks more about her Summer. Greg could even potentially have Bernice state more concrete ideas about her interest or lack of interest in Piro. I think it would be interesting to have a week where Bernice and her ideas is a focus would be very nice.
I’m not thrilled either girl is spending more time discussing a Mrs. degree more than Hey, have you considered where your going to apply for jobs or grad school? How are you prepping? If your more interested in boyfriends than careers, that’s fine (seriously, no one can afford a house in California on a single income anymore), but you can get a boyfriend and work a waitress job (about as well paying and steady as childcare at at this point) rather than spending money on collage level classes and wasting a perfectly good class seat. Bernice seems to get that. Not sure Luann does.
Should also mention this is why Luann should really not be giving Fay (or anyone) dating advice. Even in high school I’d be wary of a taking a single, judgmental, poorly dressed teachers advice on how to date.
Man, Luann is so THICK sometimes. Ugh. Luckily Bernice knows this and will move past it and hopefully Jack will stick around long enough for Luann to get a CLUE.

How does she know Bernice doesn’t have a boyfriend? They haven’t seen each other for months.
