Elvis, your soap box is getting a bit slippery! You’re losing your audience as well as your focus.

And Lupin, you must have your claws crossed because there’s no way you’re ever going to be able to avoid a shelf!

It’s not as easy as you think, Lupin. Shelves are hard for cats to avoid.

Exactly, Squawtron. Shelves lie in wait, luring cats with Siren-like song and promises of adventure. But if the cat steps onto the shelf, there is a good chance it is doomed.

Telling a cat to stay off shelves is like telling the tide not to come in. Ain’t gonna happen, man.

It’s those humans putting attractive teasers, like PLANTS, on the shelves, that cause a cat to lose his sense of propriety.

Good morning from the waning polar vortex. Currently -26 F with a high predicted for -1 F which is part of the upward trend that will be, wait for it, 49 F by midday Monday!!! That’s a 75 degree shift over 4 days! With snow today and then rain all weekend. So, rain and melting on top of frozen ground equals a wet soggy mess. Blech.

Uh oh, Elvis is Outraged, bordering on Incensed, with a little ‘indignation’ thrown in for measure. Don’t worry Lupin, you will be fine as long as he is venting his spleen. However, if Elvis gets real quiet, back away quickly and avoid eye contact.

Three topics you never want to bring up with Cats and Siamese in particular: Liberal Dog* Nonsense, Missing Breakfast, and of course, Shelves.

In the last panel, is Elvis scolding with his “thumb?” It definitely doesn’t look like a pointer finger . . .

Lupin is a dual-purrsonality kitty. Calm, logical newscat on air. When the tie & jacket come off, he’s Cat of Adventure!

No different from any mercurial feline found anywhere. I am looking at my sweet little Dusty, curled up in blissful snooze. How innocent! How adorable!

But the Dusty who tries to trip me on the way to the “necessary”, loudly demanding-HOLLERING for his daily shrimp? Where on earth did this little hellion come from?!?!?

    "Cat"ch my drift? ;-D

    Love, >^.,.^<

Happy Frigid Purrsday, orbsters and orbabies! My, my, our Elvis is certainly the picture of righteous wrath and indignation this morning, isn’t he? Yum Yum has the run of everything in the house, except the kitchen counter (at all times, although she pushes her luck). She knows that company is coming if we move the table into the middle of the floor, and the table surface is then verboten. I don’t have any shelves, but she likes to roost on top of the bookcases. And, beware her fury if you forget her treats at what she considers the required times!!

High leap to a tempting shelf where the knick-knacks all reside

Long fall to the floor from there, it was worth it every time

Tried to run across the ceiling, running every now and then

Land hard, sending stuff all reeling, and I crash the shelf again!,

    …….

This jump’s the biggest leap I wish I hadn’t done

Running relentlessly, disastrous but so much fun!

    …….

If all shelves are so dangerous, why do I enjoy them so?

If I know better than to jump onto them why do I still go?

Judging Lupin’s face in the third panel, I would say that he is playing devil’s advocate here. He isn’t actually seriously thinking cats should avoid shelves… but just giving another perspective, as it were, and at the same time, riling up Elvis. Because, you know, Elvis is a lot of fun to rile.

What are the rigorous measures Elvis is talking about, and who’s going to put them in place? Because if he means anchoring the shelves more firmly to the wall – well, that’s a job for hands, not paws.
