love Elvis’ green suspenders & Lupin’s green tie. their wardrobe closet must be huge and their ktchen cabinet to hold all of the special mugs. Actually I thought Elvis was our protector against shenanigens! but I never knew that googly eyes were a sign of nobility, I just love all of the neat stuff we learn from this site!
“Googly eyes for nobility”? hehe, then I have a crotchet cap of nobility at home! I have this cute winter cap my dad bought me years ago that has googly eyes and long braided tassels down the sides. I never realised it was for bringing out the nobility in me! :D
Happy BCN Origination Day!!!!! On this day in 2014, the first BCN web comic (“Everything is broken”) was posted. It is amazing to think that, in five short years, BCN went from being a web comic on its own page, to being part of the GoComics line-up, to being a daily newspaper strip—and in that time has generated two books, two calendars, two sets of decorative pins, not to mention all the wonderful items available for purchase on Zazzle (such as mugs, cards and t-shirts).
Yesterday, I came across a blog post that Georgia Dunn had written back in October 2017, describing the momentous night before the first strip was posted. See:
It is well worth a read (although, if you are a big softie like me, you will find yourself crying). It is scary to think how close we all came to never getting to meet Elvis, Puck & Lupin.
But let’s not dwell on that. Instead, this is a day for celebration: Five Years of BCN!!!! Here is to 50 more!
Happy Bluesday/Mewsday, everybody!!!! The leprechaun trap is cute. Now the toddler needs to bait it with a bit of gold so the leprechauns will be lured in.
Ah, “Shenanigans!” Stubby Kaye, the monster who gave prizes, Kenny the Cop. I loved that show! (Now, what percentage of people reading this will know what I’m talking about? I barely do!)
AAAaarrrgh! More four-leaf clovers! Shamrocks have 3 leaves!More and more (it seems especially prevalent in the US) shamrocks are depicted with 4 leaves. I want to stem the tide.
Speaking of Shenanigans, Georgia posted on her Facebook about some Elvis caused shenanigans today: “The real life Buzzy Mouse and their friend Ducky Ferret were in the line of fire this morning when Elvis got startled and launched a pan full of yucky chicken-broth-remnants-and-soapy-dish-water out of the sink and onto the floor. (The dishes were promptly dealt with, once I could peel him off the ceiling ). And so they each got a little bath and a scrub this morning. Here they are laying out on a towel to dry, like a tiny kitchen spa In real life Buzzy’s buzzer stopped working a few years ago, so I don’t worry much about getting it wet anymore. (Yes, I may put that into the comic one day! We still all love Buzzy despite their lack of a buzzer). Buzzy and Ducky have been with us since Elvis was a kitten. These friends are 10 years old! Party on, buddies!!!”
Brein update: a few folks have kindly asked after me, so here is a little update. I am hanging in there out here on The Orb. My first chemo 2/19 went by pretty easily- took all the suggested pre meds and post meds (an astounding and delicious assortment of pills large and small) and avoided most of the dreaded nausea. I landed in the hospital overnight at the end of February when I woke in the middle of the night with the worst pain I have ever had-a nine on a scale of ten- on my left side, near my heart. Could not easily breathe or move, so did the sensible thing and waited for it to pass. For four hours. Finally woke my husband to fetch the Tylenol, and when I could not sit up to take it he whisked me to the hospital after 911 could not rule out a heart attack. A CT scan ( my second that week, with four you get a free appendectomy or something) found nothing on the left but a teeny little blood clot on the right, so back on the blood thinners. Second chemo is this Thursday and hoping for similar non-nauseated results.
Unfortunately the CT also disclosed some regrowth of cancer in the abdomen already AND a bonus- small amounts in the upper body ganging up on the spleen and other non-spare parts. Not overly worried since that is what the chemo is for and its seek and destroy mission just started. Still packing an open but ever- narrowing wound ( Day 42 ) on my abdomen. Once that closes I can get the third chemo drug, Avastin, which inhibits new blood vessel formation. Looking forward to starving the $&@? Out of this cancer.
On the plus side my dear friend The Mad Knitter showered me with specially knitted caps and similar goodies. Just in time as Friday my hair started to defect.
Thanks to all out there rooting for me, and asking after me. I feel like I have hundreds of friends I have never met, and I appreciate you all.
Sorry to hear of this recent complication, but always check it out first and ask question later. Taking meds will get you thru the rough parts (I had to make charts to keep up with them all and keep track if I took them or not) it seems like a lot but you’ll get thru it! Hang in there its a bumpy ride, but the BCN orb is here for you and rooting!

A Cunning Plan! With the stickers and googly eyes, the leprechauns will never guess it is a trap. They’re doomed.

The Robber Mice will rescue any trapped Leprechauns. They don’t like being caught.

Lupin’s shamrock tie and coffee mug, Elvis’s green braces, the BCN Team is really getting into the spirit of St. Catty’s Day.

St. Catty’s Day, in the park
Celebrate St. Trudy with friends!
St. Catty’s Day, in the park
Celebrate St. Trudy with friends!
…….
Pots of kibble by the rainbow!
The snakes free to join in,
No pesky leprechauns!
Cats all happy, taking catnaps
Can you dig it? Yes, I can.
I’ve been waiting such a long time.
…….
St. Catty’s Day, in the park
Celebrate St. Trudy with friends!
St. Catty’s Day, in the park
Celebrate St. Trudy with friends!
…….
Catolic sisters, in their habits,
With their patron Trudy,
Catnip shamrocks for one and all,
Can you dig it? Yes, I can.
I’ve been waiting such a long time.
…….
Plenty of rainbows fly the colors of the day
We listen to stories told in our own way,
Listen children all is not lost, all is not lost, oh no, no
…….
Lovely days in the park!
Every day’s a day for the cats!
Lovely days in the park!
Every day’s a day for the cats!
…….
Cats all purring, people smiling,
A joyous celebration
Waiting for us all
If we want it, really want it.
Can you dig it? Yes, I can!

But Elvis is the King of Shenanigans. Elvis cause most shenanigans himself. Why would he protect the family from them?

Leprechaun traps – that’s a pretty good way to keep any child occupied, at least for as long as the stickers last.
