In my case when it comes to immediate family funerals, I’ve got two to go: father and brother. Six additional ones if you count stepmother and five stepsisters.

And we’re BACK to the “new stuff.” And frankly, considering the depressing nature of today’s Strip, I’d rather go back to Frank’s “shoe buying.”

Gee. It THIS is an example of what Luann was talking about when she was with “Doug,” then I can sort of see why he abruptly left.

G&K? Please fix Luann up with a guy STAT!!!

It’s creeping me out, too. Is this what the young people talk about these days? When I was in my early 20s, I did not have these kinds of discussions with other girls.

Too many funerals for me – I’m the last of my original family.

Luann must be feeling super lonely. Last week – no boy in her bed. This week – never been to a funeral (how many die before 19?). It IS time for Luann to get distracted (relationship?).

The true indicator of popularity is not how many funerals you go to but how many people will come to yours.

On the other hand, when someone wondered why so many people came to the funeral of movie mogul Louis B Mayer, George Jessel suggested “give the people what they want, and they’ll come out for it”.

This gave me a little twinge, my wife died exactly 5 years ago tonite.

Five if Luann counts Bernice’s funeral. Even if the two are so united that they could die on the same day.

This strip is really unfortunate timing for me.

Hopefully at this point in her life, she hasn’t had a need to go to many funerals yet. At this point in MY life, 56, I have been to far too many. Your day will come, Luann. Sad as that may be.

When you have a lot of people attending your funeral, it’s usually just to make themselves look good.

She has not yet reached the age where you go to more funerals than weddings.

Does anybody else wish we could go back to the days when Luann and Bernice would hang out in Luann’s room, and, not talk about such depressing topics?

I have a good friend who’s a mortician by occupation. He’s seen plenty.

Especially when I was young, my parents did not think it appropriate that I attend the funerals of family members. They realized that I would be aware of their deaths soon enough. And it was more important that I remember the good times/enjoyment I had with them.

I think today’s strip, however morbid, is still more interesting than last week’s vitriol against running shoes. Advice to Greg from the Eagles, Get Over It.

Reminds me of Yogi Berra… “If I don’t go to my friends funerals, they won’t come to mine…”I.e., hard to imagine her parents coming to her funeral after she goes to theirs. She better have her own kids by then.

Is this one of those strips where Greg is contemplating his mortality? Using the young characters to put it in bittersweet context? Given that this is a family strip in production as well as theme it’s entirely possible. Anyway, love the bittersweet message, but looking forward to the next arc.

She’s young. She should be grateful that she hasn’t been to any funerals.

Popularity and funerals actually have little in common. It may indicate whether you come from a large or small family or whether you have a close relationship with them. That’s all. Outside of family, most people only attend the funerals of the friends they are very close with and for most people those dear, close friends are few in number.

Why the different drawing style?

I’ve been to quite a few funerals and weddings, but I’m not sure if I like the weddings any better.

No Luann. Its the number of people who COME to YOUR funeral that tells how popular you were.

There’s also the possibility of going to funerals of co-workers or their relatives. I’ve been to funerals of the parents of co-workers, family members of friends, etc. as well as my own family (parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.)

No, Luann, the number of funerals you go to show the number of friends (and family) that you HAD. Be grateful you haven’t been to any yet.

Actually, if you go to a funeral, it means you have one LESS friend!

Someone needs to clue Luann on to the fact that funerals aren’t nearly as much fun as she seems to think they are.

A lot of unwarranted negativity directed towards Luann today. As much as she usually irritates me, I don’t find anything objectionable about her conversation here. It’s just curiosity over something she’s never experienced before. And it’s certainly welcome after spending the last week dealing with Frank’s obnoxiousness.

Don’t like this one . . . kind of makes light of loved ones who have passed.

Kind of a downer strip, what? My immediate family (which was only Mom and Dad, since I was an only child and never married, no children) is gone now. Likewise my closest friends. I don’t know that I have any funerals left that I’d have to go to. C’est la vie….

I try to avoid keeping a score card on funerals. Each one takes another little piece from your spirit. I cannot even remember the year anyone died.

well he’s right even though we’ve all had weird talks like that or something similar anyways it still is pretty creepy either way.
