Nancy is lovely, always has been. I like that we are being shown the closeness of the Fuse’s staff, that adds a nice depth to the story. There is no joke in today’s comic. It’s not funny. Just kicking the can down the road. That seems a little lazy.
I recall TJ at the Degroots noticing Luann a few years ago – until Brad shooed him away. Now Luann is a big girl. But this wouldn’t seem to be a good match. TJ & Tara, maybe.
(breathes sigh of relief) Whew! No heel-turn by the DeGroots, forcing everyone to work Thanksgiving! No Ann Evil renting the Fuse for a catered T-Day event so she can abuse the staff. No Ann Evil buying The Fuse. So, this week is setting up a heartwarming Thanksgiving strip, with perhaps a speed bump or two for Tiff, but everything’s gotta work out on Thursday! One can hope….
This was a Thanksgiving episode of “Friends”. Everyone’s plans are going to fall through at the last minute and they’re all going to end up at Luann’s.
Heck, might as well invite all the customers. Also, all the ones Evil Annie scammed with the fake lingerie – then have Evil Annie show up. Now, let the festivities begin!
Normally, I feel gleeful at the impending appearance of our favorite villainess. Even I have a heart, though! Do we really have to do this to Tiff on Thanksgiving?
It’s refreshing to see that the DeGroots value Thanksgiving as a way to give back to their workers, instead of taking Thanksgiving away from them (luckily the speculation that the DeGroots would greedily accept money from Ann Evil for a catered event with forced OT turned out to be a non-starter).
As I had thought, The Fuse is a family-run business, with no corporate masters/overlords to kowtow to for profits, so the DeGroots were free to do as they pleased, and they came through, showing that deep down, they really are good people.
I really hope G&K don’t throw Tiffany under the bus (again). I’m tired of her being the punching bag for all the bottled up hate by the cartoonists. PLEASE let this be a nice dinner…and maybe an epiphany for Dad…
Now I really have the huge sensation that Tiffany’s plans will be ruined by something (or someone) and she’ll end up celebrating Thanksgiving in the house of her good old frenemy Luann.
Ok, everyone is expecting Tiff to have the rug jerked out with her either getting a notice that Ann will be there or Ann is there (in some form). Three possible solutions readily available (sorry Cheapskate0, no binary for you, treat as an or gate); 1) Tomorrow Tom says Ann will be there and Tiff pulls chocks. 2) Tiff meets Tom, either Ann shows up or Tom makes an announcement leading to Tiff going to either party on Friday (call it late Thursday in the strip). 3) Tom and Tiff enjoy some Turkey. There are other possibilities but I’m thinking decreasing probability with one of the solutions shown above being in effect. (Btw, no odds on solution 3 at this time. I list it because G&K usually do family for holidays which means we might not see the outcome till Friday or the show all the characters Thursday wishing us a happy T-day).
Second turn down. Looks like we’re building to a HUGE Tiffany disaster. One more set up day before the hammer falls yet again!
Could Awful Annie come up with something to draw Tom away from the Dad-Daughter dinner at the last moment; leaving Tiff all alone on Thanksgiving evening? Of course she can.
Thursday will be a mega disaster for Tiff… slam dunk… take it to the bank!
I have a hunch that Friday or Saturday will see a big emotional rescue of Tiffany (most likely) by Leslie Knox! Thus starting, if not cementing, a long relationship.
Ah yes, Dez is reminding us all that she still has opportunities in life other than working for free while still paying rent to the people taking advantage of the free labor.
We have a three dinner setup so far. The Gray’s, the DeGroot’s and Le Petit Chateau.
Will T-Day be a 3 panel showing 3 happy dinners? Two happy and one morose? Will Friday show Tiff arriving at Al & Irma’s after her T-Day crash? Remember Tiffany’s last happy family moment was at the Gray’s Dinner. She even helped with the desserts.

https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2017/06/05
This household could be a solid refuge for Tiff to become grounded. Will GnK finally let that happen?
Something I’ve been wondering lately – does Tom even know Ann has a son? Even if he knew Ann and Les had a strained relationship , I would think he would at least invite Les out to lunch the same way he insisted Ann and Tiff have lunch together.
two offers for thanksgiving just after Daddy made plans with her and assured her it would be just them.
I’m wagering either he’s going to put her off at the last minute OR have a “big announcement” concerning Ann. (I can see him using that as a good time to tell her he’s going to Marry Ann… But given how long Ann has been using him, he might be getting tired of her (and her spending) by now.
Tom, face unseen, is going to find a way to write off Tiffany. To make her an offer she can’t refuse, using Ann to deliver a symbolic horse’s head. Les will tell Uncle Al and Uncle Al will once again use his connections to put Tom and Ann into a world of hurt.
I sometimes wonder how Tiffany feels working for the parents of the girl she consistently put down and belittled? And since this arc absolutely has to end with Tiffany, not with her Dad, but at the Degroot’s, how’s she gonna like eating a little crow for Thanksgiving?
Now I KNOW that Ann is going to somehow ruin Tiffany’s date with her dad. Tiffany’s redemption arc is slow and excruciating, but eventually (hopefully) she’ll come out the other side as part of the gang rather than a snotty, above-it-all outsider.
Why would the DeGroots figure everyone would be available on a day most people go to their family’s home? Thanksgiving is SO overdone. If they really want to be nice, invite everyone over some other random day. Or better yet, give them nice bonuses.
We all know what’s gonna happen here. Tiffany would have a better chance at having a happy life if she jumped ship and became part of another strip. Maybe she could try “Mark Trail” and give Cherry a run for her money.
I love Tiffany but have you noticed lately how Greg is drawing her with such heavy eyebrows and eye liner? Hey I know it’s all about those Power Eyebrows these days but this is over the top. She looks prettier when she’s a little softer yet still made up.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to have the dinner at The Fuse so they can take advantage of the Restaurant sized Kitchen and all the extra tables & chairs.
Nice surprise, but WHY wait until the day (or two) before to invite anyone to Thanksgiving dinner??? Most everyone has family or made plans with friends to celebrate by that time. Unless you know for certain that they do NOT have family/friends in the area, it is wiser to invite people a week in advance.
I still feel Tiffany is in for a helluva lot of further heartbreak. I still suspect idiot Tom “Cat” will break the news about his engagement/wedding plans AND further hurt Tiffany by asking for her help in picking out a gargantuan, mega-expensive wedding ring.
I must admit though, I have some serious trepidation too…. about how Tiffany will handle this. I am glad Greg has never gone as “horribly sad” as some of the permutations that have gone through my mind when reading this today.
Tiff is realizing she has friends and people to be with on Thanksgiving, and she may end up at one of these dinners after a few moments with her dad witnessing what may have to say.
Oh, this is cruel! Trusting Tiffany is being set up for a crushing blow. Annie Awful will crash the dad-and-daughter dinner? Or Tom-Dad has already been brainwashed by the con artist? Something Evil this way comes….

sounds like only TJ will be at the Degroots’ dinner
Mordock999 Premium Member about 5 years ago
Gee. It looks like the only member of the “staff” that’s going to show at the DeGroots is Old Smiley.
And to all of those who said that Tiffany may wind up at the Berger-Grays this Thanksgiving? THAT is beginning to look likely.
Especially if Ann crashes the father-daughter dinner like she did a year ago. Or Tom hits Tiff with even MORE bad news. (Engagement/Marriage)
Perhaps Thanksgiving day will feature two warm Thanksgiving family scenes:
1) The DeGroots Clan plus TJ (And maybe Jack)
2) And the Berger-Gray Crew, plus Bets and Tiffany.
Both representing the future of BOTH families.
