Today’s strip and the comments so far (5:46 AM West Coast time) say all that needs to be said about the state of the USA today – 2nd Civil War, anyone?

As long as Fox is allowed to broadcast propaganda, 30-40% of the country will have alternative facts. The schism is creeping into many mainstream comics. Recognizing and exploiting it is the one bit of intelligence Trump possesses. We need a healer. Maybe we shouldn’t have pushed Marianne Williamson out… Uncle Joe will have to do.

The question BC is asking is a really good concise summary of the origins of the Civil War.

A country divided against itself can not stand. Unless the multiply by the common denominator.

An Uncivil War.

You mean like California and all the other states, except, maybe, Washington and Texas?

The problem with the “two countries” concept is that — contrary to what some folks claim — the political divisions are not matched by two sides of a geographical line.

Coastal vs. interior? Nope. Too many “liberal” urban patches in the middle of “conservative” rural territory, and vice versa.

Urban-rural split? To keep the cities together as a unit, they would need to transport across rural areas, whether by road or by air. That’s just one many “flies in the ointment”. Another is those who would want to block broadcasting from those of differing philosophy. Can’t be done without totally conquering them. But that’s quite different from having two separate countries which aren’t actually at war.

Trumpers and non-Trumpers

I can see it now, both coasts a version of North Korea where Bernie’s gulags house hundreds of thousands of deplorables, each of them desperate to reach the wall the Socialist Democratic States of America erected to keep them from reaching the freedom of the Rural States of America.

We are talking Brexit? right?

If California were a separate country, it would have the world’s 5th largest economy. So don’t p*** them off too much.

Why not let the citizens of each state determine how that state wants to be run?

Let the federal government provide protection from outside threats, insure free travel and trade between the states and little else.

Oh wait… that sounds like a republic. That sounds like what we are supposed to be instead of having a federal government with a heavy hand.

Liberals tend to want everyone to live by their rules and beliefs. In that sense it is no better than White Supremacist or Antifa or any of the worlds many dictators.

Conservatives tend to want to be left alone and to let others live their own lives. I don’t care what you do as long as you aren’t stepping on the rights and beliefs of others. Basically, I shouldn’t have to give you what you want and or take what you have.

Hmmm, two countries? Fox susceptible vs. the rest of the broadcasting world?
