They didn’t trash $65 in food, did they? Worst case scenario is to pour the solids (meat, veggies) into a colander and allow the broth (with all the cayenne) to rinse away, then start a new pot with fresh broth and dump the meat/veggies back in.
Extra cheese on the pizza today (just the way Frank likes it) to make up for the fake non-dairy cheese on last week’s vegan lasagna? Duh! He could have just put legit cheese in the lasagna and made it a perfectly-acceptable vegetarian dish.
Confirmen. Frank has a job, suit and tie white collar job, 9 to 5 suit and tie white collar job, and he carries an attaché case! And when he comes home he expects supper to be ready. There was some speculation bout this.
I knew it, pizza for dinner, Luann didn’t need to impress Frank with a 65.29 EZ Stew. Jack was going to pull a Gunther and spills the facts. Luann was quick to stop Jack from ruining a rare complement from Frank.
I am impressed by Degroots Foyer with the three portraits of Brad, Luann and Puddles. Also Frank has a nice Business Suit and a leather attache briefcase. The living room shows that Jack is an excellent housekeeper. Is Luann going to keep her promise and reward Jack?
Wait a minute! When did Frank meet Jack before? Why is he not surprised to find him at home with Luann? Why is he not suspicious that the living room is clean after finding Jack and Luann have been in the house without anyone there? Why doesn’t he smell that stew on Puddle’s breath? Why does he call Puddles “Pud”? I have so many questions.
Puddles sitting on the couch watching Frank with the “I’m a good dog who has done absolutely nothing wrong” look is such a classic dog behavior♡. I’m sorry for the stew, but I’m glad to see that Frank seems to have a high sympathy-regard for Jack. AND HOORAY! Now Luann and Jack share a secret♡♡. And one of those they can laugh at together without others understanding♡♡♡!
Most of the $65 was for spices and there’s no way they used all of that (except for a lot of the cayenne pepper, which apparently they didn’t scoop out fast enough).
Similarly, there will be leftover veggies. They overbought the meat. Deadweight financial loss estimate $15.
To me this whole arc is a pretty obvious Luannverse slow walk to a beyond friend relationship between two characters who are increasingly drawn together as an attractive couple, comfortable with each other, very aware of each others feelings, and well able to react to each other. I think Luann’s almost caress of the big strong, and very honest and respectful of parents Jack, is cute, sweet, and not at all controlling. It’s a couple thing, not an individual above all thing. So many say they would run in the other direction. Maybe that might explain some things in their lives? I think that a different version of couples is being drawn with Gun(ther) and Bets. Gunther needed a girl/woman like him in his life, and she is not perfect, but neither is he. How they deal with this as a couple should be determinative. Same thing here. Epiphany time? Maybe? It is coming closer I think. Frank say something good about Jack. That might help you daughter realize not to let this one get away. And contrary to most opinion I don’t think he wants to get away.
We don’t know what happened to that pricey pot of stew, but on display was the Luann who (routinely) quits and moves on when the situation demands more attention and finesse than she is willing to give; the Luann who is easily discouraged and throws in the towel. i deplore waste and hope that stew is still on the stove and that Nancy or Frank will find it and repair it.
Next week – Time to move Tiffany into the DeGroot’s extra room. Luann’s growing maturity with an actual boyfriend should enable her to adapt to Tiffany.
I just finished the Brad and Toni saga. How they met, how Brad stole the beautiful Toni away from Dirk the Jerk, etc. 50 installments here: http://luannfan.com/collections/
I once had a manager who behaved JUST like Luann in that last panel. The minute I got ready to speak the truth, instead of having an errant hand pushing my lower jaw towards the upper, she would pinch me in the midriff (under the table away from the spying eyes of our clients). Thankfully, I eventually freed myself of her.
Everyone has an opinion. Its what makes us individuals. Those of us that like comics know that they are not real. Its fantasy. Its other than reality. Its fun to enter those worlds and be transported somewhere else. Besides, if the comic didn’t engage us enough to invest ourselves in it, it wouldn’t be any good. I read strips, comic books, watch cartoons and anime. Not one of them is real but because to me they are good enough for me to invest my time and focus on. Because the situations in Luann are everyday type situations its easy to make judgement calls about them, get wrapped up in it. And that’s okay. Just a little escapism.
As far as the strip itself, as someone wanting to appear capable to her father (cuz he’d probably make fun of her if he found out), she shushed Jack to keep it on the low. No malicious or controlling intent, just “Please don’t tell my dad, I’ll never live it down.”
That said, if Frank or Nancy gave her cash for groceries and dinner they will want to see the food that was bought. Yes they now have spices and things in the cabinet but what else? There is no $65 pizza
Oh come on, people… at least it’s Luann, and not another arc about Tiffany or Gunther. I complained a month or so ago that we weren’t getting enough Luann, so, to me at least, this is refreshing. Besides, I like Jack. He’s a good guy, and Luann would be better off having him around more.

“Actually, it was cayenne pepper.”
" That’s a different thing, Jack. Why didn’t you just say it was cayenne pepper?"
