It seems Goldie still wants to think that there are good reasons why her previous People did what they did. Not that I personally blame her: she probably loved them. Still does. They might’ve been awful, but her love seems to be unconditional. =’3
The interplay between Lupin and Goldie brings tears to my eyes. Especially Goldie’s surprise. Maybe peace will come, and even friendship. One can hope.
Those wonderful expressions on their faces, especially Goldie and Lupin. Lupin looks so pensive, imagining Goldie’s past. Then he peacefully bids her good night and she looks a little surprised but pleased. What a beautiful arc! These stories cannot be rushed.
I just had to pick our Pepper up and squeeze him.. which he protested ..LOL! Hubby said Pep said I didn’t have to squeeze him everytime Goldie made my heart go squee! LOL!
there’s something wrong with my lap top, my inferior screen has been getting blurry the last couple of days, but only when i’m reading BCN, it’s odd, very odd
It’s very nice to see that a truce of sorts seems to be forming between Lupin and Goldie. They still have some issues to resolve, but I think that now they will be able to discuss things civilly.
OT: Parents-in-law picked us up yesterday and brought us over to brother and sister-in-law’s for a few hours. A couple of cousins dropped in too. Social distancing was maintained, and a wonderful time was had by all. We knew it was time for Paul to come home when he started to resemble a scared deer caught in the headlights.
Slightly O.T. Since fear of the vacuum cleaner has been shown in previous story arcs, I thought today’s Speed Bump is perfect for showing the fantasy of what a vacuum cleaner can do, even to people!
Today is Turtle Day! I’ve always liked turtles—especially the chocolate, butterscotch, and pecan variety.
But if one likes members of Order Testudines, this brings up a question: Do turtles appreciate being petted?
I’m even fond of snapping turtles, as we share a similarly curmudgeonly nature. Hmmm … turmudgeon? I was once told by a “naturalist” that I could not have seen a snapping turtle in a BWCAW lake. Two years later they were documented. Sister, I’m from the PDSR of Madiganistan (formerly Illinois), I know a snapper when I see one!
Then there are those with turtle necks, necessary when “pulling your head in,” and of course similarly named articles of clothing.
Speaking of clothing, I invented the term “turtle fur” as an expression of impossibility to go along with “horse feathers” and other varieties of unobtainium. Then some much cleverer than usual ad-wonk decided it was a catchy name for acrylic fuzzy clothing. TANJ. Now I have to say “turtle fur™,” pronounced “turtle-furtm.” It just doesn’t have the same panache.
Lastly, I have a question to ask. Those of you who get the answer wrong, or who know the answer but won’t post it, owe me a drink. Those who have the nerve to post the correct answer, I owe a drink:
The realization from Goldie of what Lupin just said reminds me of the first time my platoon sergeant called me, “ma’am”. Having been enlisted before I was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant, I knew I was going to get zero respect from my Vietnam Veteran platoon sergeant…perhaps never, but certainly not before proving myself worthy. If he addressed me at all, it was usually with the word lieutenant…dripping in sarcasm. I just did my job the best I knew how and followed his (very good) advice— something many new lieutenants fail to do. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard, “Thanks, ma’am.” cross his lips a year after we started working together…
Please raise a bowl or glass of tuna water to Milo, Rosie’s Pennsylvania cousin, who went to the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday after a short (and surprising) illness at the age of 2. We all miss him, but no one more than his brother Pip.

Lupin in panel two is imagining Goldie’s life. When he says Good Night, somehow Goldie feels it is personal. A spark. Maybe bonding will follow.
Some were bugging Georgia to get Lupin and Goldie reconciled, but these things take patience. And good storytelling.

Meanwhile, Back on The Nile
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: So ends a lovely day. And we have the Spiders to thank for it.
Beatrixia: Let’s end the day with a cup of Kat Koffee and some Spider Treats!
Puckmosis: (Just make sure…)
Beatrixia: (I know, I’ve made sure Lupinium has decatf).
Sometime Later
The Queen: And now I bid you all a good night.
Puckmosis: Elvis-Anum, can I help you with the scroll you’re carrying?
Elvis-Anum: No, that’s alright. It’s just a little awkward.
Beatrixia: Well at least let me take your Koffee Kup. Oops!
Treats fall to the floor.
Lupinium: Elvis-Anum, don’t tell me you were hoarding treats.
Elvis-Anum: I was just taking along a little midnight snack!
The Queen: Just don’t go messing up the bedspread again.
