“And coming up next Sunday: Luann THANKS her “Creators” that she is not Tiffany Farrell! And expresses her eternal gratitude that she won’t ever, ever, ever be FORCED to live under the SAME roof with Her!"
Last week’s messy room ‘toon was part of an effort by a number of artists to honor essential workers by hiding certain objects in the art (an apple for teachers, a steering wheel for either truckers or delivery drivers bringing food to people’s homes, a grocery cart for the grocery store workers who restock shelves, a microscope for medical researchers and workers, etc.)
This week’s messy room ‘toon is probably revenge against all the Luann haters who moaned about last week’s messy room…
Speaking of trashy rooms, Luann can get married to Jeremy (from “Zits”). Sara just dumped Jeremy, so Jeremy & Luann can live happily in their room until they’re eventually unable to find each other.
Is there some secret code associated with the posters on the wall? I see an anti-Covid-19 poster (which seems a weird thing to put on one’s wall) an eye, something that looks like a shower head and a map of the world with hearts underneath it. (Unrelated to this, Puddles looks pretty disgusted, possibly with the state of the room.)
Just finished reading through yesterday’s comments – many feel that the baby in the ultrasound is not Tom’s. Knowing Evil Annie as we do, I think the more appropriate question would be, is the baby in the ultrasound even Evil Annie’s?
I wish I could say I never saw a room in such disorder and a mess to boot. But I lived with a sister that was a slob and it drove my poor mom nuts. I told her close the door and yell at her like you do me and Ken (my brother). We both keep our rooms clean and organized. She finally went in while my sister was at school and put the big black garbage bag in there with a note to either toss it all in the bag for the garbage which will go in the garbage or clean up all of it off the floor and put it away. She tossed some out and hung up the other. Then my mother told her to wash it all over the next 2 weeks or it would all be donated after she washed it to Good Will. Well she finally did it correctly and it lasted for 8 months….after that my mother gave up and kept her door closed.
I see dirty dishes and drinking glasses on the floor as well.
Between that, the dirty clothes, and the dog, Bernice must either have no sense of smell or an awesome nasal mutant power that would grant her admission to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters.
This is, I argue, is the third set of Sunday panels that corresponds to covid-19. The first was when Luann and Bernice were social distancing, although given the way it was drawn, lots of different conclusions were reached. The second was last week’s. When I first looked at it, I thought Sunday foible with the Luann trope of a messy room, and Nancy’s motherly frustration. After seeing some really smart and observant comments, I realized that this was a message panel, for covid-19. Now today she is talking to Bernice about how to exercise inside, a obvious, to me reference to adjusting to life in stay-in-place. Sunday’s can reflect no particular time, or “a” particular time, while the weekly story arcs have no relationship to current events in the real world. Actually I notice this in a few other comics I follow, episodic arc driven ones, in particular Curtis, as one example.
Of the hovering Tiffany arc, a thought, and a shout out to anyone who also follows Endtown (also on Go Comics).
Tiffany rummaging around Tom’s house is a lot like Wally, Alan, Duffy, and the topsider rummaging around the abandoned lighthouse in the strange alternate reality they have just stumbled into.
So much so, I can almost imagine G&K switching to all grey-tones instead of color for the dailies!
What a pit. I’m sure Frank and Nancy are wondering where all those cockroaches are coming from. She’s probably got some spiders living under some of the other piles, too. Disgusting.
Isn’t a tradition for Bernice to slum her time in Luann’s room?Did not Luann take Bernice to NYC? Does Bernice have any real friends other than Luann? After Bernice graduates, Luann and Bernice can be the odd Couple?
See, this is why Luann is currently the most boring character in the strip. She still has the maturity level of a thirteen year old. Most young women Luann’s age have learned to take care of their living spaces and would never want to stay in a filthy, cluttered place like that, with food rotting on the floor. And I wouldn’t sit there, Bernice, the floor is probably crawling with ants.

All I can say is, G&K must enjoy drawing the messy room.
Granted, last week’s was a tribute; I reckon this one was supposed to be a hoot.
Another thought: For those of us whose kids have moved on, loved ones passed away, you name it,
It may well be, the very things that irritated you about them when they lived with you
Become the very things you miss the most once they are gone.
