I’m glad Jules can talk and is not bouncing off the walls. Is it just me, or does Jules remind anyone else of a cartoon caterpillar from an old Loony Tune? I think the caterpillar was supposed to be a caricature of a 30s or 40s actor (the name Jerry Colonna comes to mind). Something about the round goggles and moustache…probably just me, it’s late and I’m very sleepy.
So let’s see. Elvis matches the cover of the new book, Lupin is semi-invisible, Burt continues to be a snarker, Jules proves he can talk and is kind of a nice guy, and he and Puck can see the chyrons. Just a normal day at BCN!
K, I’m not even gonna read all the comments first to see if it’s already been said, I’m just gonna say it: Lupin toe beans! Invisible Lupin! And Pucky floof patch!
I’m almost half finished with the repairing and repainting of all the antique furniture in the guest bedroom. Each piece takes a minimum of four days depending on how humid the weather is and I can only do one piece at a time because of space constraints. But when the whole room is finished it’s going to be a showpiece.
And at least when I’m redecorating, I can get my mind off of school that is “supposed” to restart in about a month. I can’t not go back to work because I’m the sole support for me and two adult disabled kids and I can’t even afford to look for another job (if any were available for an older woman in a wheelchair) because I would lose 16 years of retirement since I’m in the teacher retirement system instead of social security. I can’t stay 6 feet away from students because there are times when I have to work with my hand over their hand. All I will be able to do is wear masks and gloves and pray that I don’t get sick and die because it’s a sucker bet that at least some of our kids will refuse to wear a mask. And we have always had parents and group homes that send their kids to school sick. Quite frankly, I’m scared.
Today is Guinea Pig Appreciation Day. I’ve never met a guinea pig I didn’t like. I mean, who can resist a cupcake of cuteness? They look like bunny slippers minus the ears. They also look incredibly dumb, but are surprisingly intelligent. Their vocabulary is impressive—one can learn to understand and speak guinea pig. Guinea pigs are generally gentle and sociable, and if raised to it, enjoy being groomed by humans.
I knew someone who, as a child, was told that if you hold a guinea pig upside down, its eyes would fall out. This may have been to prevent the child from doing this, which distresses the guinea pig. They are very aware that they are a prey animal.
They are an important food source in portions of South America, but I’d have to be very hungry to kill one. Because they have some surprising biological similarities to humans, they are also extensively used in specialized medical research into conditions they share with humans. For that alone we should be grateful and appreciative.
Let’s have a big whistle of appreciation for the cupcakes of cuteness!

From Train: Drops of Jupiter
Now that I’m back at the Big Pink House,
All ready to quickly pounce, hey, hey
Well, now it’s summer and we need some rain
And the heat can be such a pain, hey,hey
Since my return in the light of the moon,
I know that’s it’s well past June, hey, hey
But tell me,
Did you broadcast all the news?
Do the things you set out to do?
And were the lights all faded?
And is summer overrated?
Tell me?
Did you learn of things that never end?
Learn an artist can be a best friend?
And did you miss me while you were watching the screens right here?

No that I’m back from my June vacation,
Back in July for some inspiration, hey hey!
I fly around in the heat of the night,
But the night sky is such a beautiful sight, hey, hey!
Now that I’m back at the Big Pink House,
Seeing my best friend cats and each Robber Mouse,
I’m afraid that might see me as
Plain old bug who just flies around at night
But they don’t know that it’s just outta sight
But tell me,
Did you broadcast all the news?
Do the things you set out to do?
And were the lights all faded?
And is summer overrated?
Tell me?
Did you learn of things that never end?
Learn an artist can be a best friend?
